Anna Richards was the dau. of Thomas Richards, a merchant who came to Dorchester, Mass., in 1630. He was b. in 1590. He removed to Weymouth in 1640 and d. there in 1650/1, leaving a large estate, inventoried at L-1300- 17-11. His widow, Welthiam, removed to Boston in 1651 and d. there in 1679. Their children were: Major John Richards, who m. Elizabeth Winthrop; Thomas; Mary who m. Gov. Thomas Hinkley; Alice, who m. Major William Bradford; Anna, who m. Ephriam Hunt; James, who m. Sarah Gibbons; Benjamin who m. Hannah Hudson; Joseph; Hannah; Sameul. The Richards coat of arms: "Agent -4 lozenges, conjoined in fesse, gules, between two Bars, sable". Ruth Quincy was a descendant of Edmund Quincy who m. (first) Ann Palmer in 1590 and resided at Wigsthorpe, Northamptonshire, England. Ed- mund Quincy came to Boston in 1633- with the Rev. John Cotton. He was Representative in 1634 and d. in 1635. He had m. (second) Judith Pares in 1623. She m. (second) Moses Paine, who d. in 1643, she m. (third) Robert Hull. Their children: Judith, b. 1626, m. Capt. John Hull, the mintmaster; Edmund, b. 1628, became a Major, m. (first) Joanna Hoar in 1648. She was sister of Pres. Hoar of Harvard College, Joanna d. in 1680. Major Edmund m. (second) Elizabeth Gookin, dau. of Hon. Daniel Gookin and widow of John Eliot, Jr. The arms of Edmund Quincy were the same as those of DeQuincy, the 2d Earl of Winchester. Joanna Hoar was a dau. of Charles Hoar, Sheriff of Gloucester, England, who d. in 1638. His widow, Joanna, came to New England and d. at Braintree, Dec. 20, 1661. Their children were: Thomas, who remained in England; John; Daniel; Leonard; who became a President of Harvard College in 1672; Margaret; and Joanna who married Edmund Quincy. Chil- dren of Capt. They came to Hawley soon af ter their marriage and settled in the south part of the town, where Mr. Joy built and ran a hotel known as "Joy's Tav- ern", until his death, May 23, 1843. 2. KENNEY, CHENEY (2), (Alvin (1)) b. Sept. 11,1824 at Guilford, Vt., m. Ellen Graves, June 4, 1846. She was b. Jan. 15, 1824 and d. Sept. 22, 1895. She m. (second) Erastus Graves and resided at Haw- ley. Mr. Kenney d. Dec. 6, 1850 at Greenfield. Children:

3. KENNEY, WILLIAM (3), (Cheney (2), Alvin (1))b. Aug. 5,1848 at Green- field, m. Ida Dinora Scott at Hawley, Sept. 21,1878. She was b. at Whitingham, Vt., dau. of Moses Dix. Born Sybil Dinora Dix, she was adopted by Phineas Scott and changed her name to Ida Dinora Scott. After their marriage, the Kenneys lived for a time on Phi- neas Scott's place, later known as the Gardner place, which burned and is now part of the State Reservation in South Hawley. They also resided for a time on Edward Cobb's place, removed to North Adams ' about 1892. He worked as a farmer, teamster until 1903, when he became a coachman and caretaker for Mr. C. H. Cutting in North Adams. He d. Jan. 27, 1921, his wife d. Mar. 8,1941. Both are buried in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Children:
