They came to Hawley from Williams- burg a little before 1800 and settled about half way between Elijah Marsh's place and that of Ezra King. He was a carpenter and some buildings are still standing which were built by his hands. In April, 1834, they removed 'West' where both died. The children of this family were possessed of a very natural ability for music, both vocal and instrumental, but circumstances seemed to prevent their making such capital from that ability. Co., N. Y., in 1820, with the children they then had. After the birth of each child thereafter they made the long and laborious trip back to Hawley by ox-team in order that the children might be bap- tized in the same old Methodist Church of their earlier years. She d. at Cicero, N. Y., May 11, 1848, he d. Jan. 24, 1837. Both are buried in Cicero Center Cemetery and each grave is marked with a bronze marker showing them to have been children of Revolution- ary soldiers. Hall Island, in the swamp to the east of Cicero is named for them. Children:

She d. in 1873, buried in Forrest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg. He m. (second) Elizabeth Mor- ton Gilbert of Fitchburg, Dec. 30, 1875. She d. Mar. 28, 1910, buried in Fitchburg. Mr. Harris purchased property in that part of Haw- ley known as "Hallockville" in 1873 or 1874. This property was previously owned by Leavitt Hallock and included the tannery.
