He was noted for his steady habits, his courteous bearing, his even temperament, and the pla- cidity of his entire live. He lived to see 99 years. She was dau. of Atherton and Betsey (Rogers) Hunt, b. Feb. 15,1834, d. Aug. 11,1927. Mr. Holden d. Mar. 27,1920. A farmer residing at Hawley, he settled on the David Vincent place. Children:


i. Carrie Bell (8), b. May 30, 1859, m. Charles W. Hawkes, Jan. 29, 1887, removed to C harlemont. Prior to her marriage she had been a teacher. Shed. Dec. 16, 1938. They had: 1. Harry F. (9), b. Feb. 27,1889, resides at Charlemont. unm.


ii. Herbert A. (8), b. Dec. 15, 1866, m. Florence A. Taylor of Charlemont, Dec. 18, 1907. They reside at Hawley. He was Postmaster of Hawley from Jan. 23,1911, until the office was discontinued, Nov. 15, 19 30. He was appointed Cattle Inspector in 1910, an office which he still holds. He was ap- pointed Moth Superintendent in 1923, an office which he also continues to hold.


9. HOLDEN, FRANCIS A. (7), (Ira (6), Levi (5), Capt. Asa (4), Nathaniel (3), Stephen (2), Richard (1)) b. Sept. 3, 1843 at Hawley, m. Juliette Converse of Belchertown, April 18, 1867. She was b. June 26, 1845. They settled in Hawley in 1872/1 and removed to Bridgeport in 1891. Children:


i. Nellie Evelyn (8), b. May 26, 1869, m. Charles P. Ackerman, Nov. 29, 1894. She d. June 12, 1943 at Manasquan, N. J. They had: 1. A son (9), adopted. 2. A dau: (9), adopted.


ii. Minnie Belle (8), b. June 7, 1871 at Hawley, m. Chester Ed- win Cranson, May 22,1893 at Bridgeport, Ct. She d. in 1948. He was b. Nov. 10, 1870 at Buckland. Children: 1. Vera Belle (9), b. May 22, 1893, m. Walter Puffer, April 29, 1922. Hed. Sept. 16, 1937 in the Soldiers' Home at Newington, Ct. 2. Dorothy Mae (9), b. Mar. 13,1906, m. Norman Darling at Stratford, Ct., Sept. 4,1926. They have: a. Wesley Ed- ward (10), b. Feb. 14, 1928 at Bridgeport, Ct.


iii. Arland Orcutt (8), b. Mar. 21, 1878 at Monson. He was a cousin, (nephew of Francis and Juliette Holden) who was adopted when his mother d. He m. Lillian Harris, Aug. 13, 1898 at Bridgeport, Ct.
