1. SHAW, BENJAMIN (5), (Moses (4), Benoni (3), Jonathan (2), John (1)) (John (1) came to Plymouth from England before 1627). b. 1759, m. Sarah Richmond, sister of Zephaniah Richmond, Sept. 27,1781. On Jan. 15, 1798 they arrived at Buckland with a family of five children, the youngest of whom was nine years old. The trip from Middle- boro was made in five days on a sled drawn by oxen. They settled in the southern part of the town in Apple Valley, on the place just north of the Robert Williams farm. Mr. Shaw served in the Rev- olutionary War eighteen months and fifteen days actual service, enlisting from Middleboro, the earlier home of the family. He re- ceived a pension from the Government. He d. Jan. 21, 1836. His wife was b. 1758 and d. Mar. 19,1823. They had:

Cooley farm from 1870 to 1894, when they re- moved to Shelburne Falls, locating on the Buckland side of the river. Five of their twelve children still reside in that immdeiate vicinity. The Calvin E. Cooley farm is now owned by Mr. Samuel LaBelle. Mr. Shaw was a Civil War veteran and an interested mem- ber of Ozro Miller Post, G. A.R. He d. Nov. 15, 1908, his wife d. in 1935.
