The financial records of the town clerk were examined and checked in detail. The recorded receipts on account of marriage intentions, recording fees, and miscellaneous charges were examined, and the payments to the treasurer were verified by comparison with the treasurer's books. The records of dog licenses issued on behalf of the county and of sporting licenses issued for the State were examined and checked with duplicates and stubs on file, the payments to the treasurer and to the Division of Fisheries and Game being verified.
The town clerk's cash balance on March 31, 1957 was verified by actual count of the cash in the office.
The surety bonds of the several town officials who are required to furnish a bond for the faithful performance of their duties were examined and found to be in proper form.
The records of licenses and permits issued by the police, fire, building, and health departments were examined and checked. The recorded payments to the treasurer were proved by comparison with the treasurer's receipts and the cash on hand was verified.

REPORT OF STATE AUDIT
The school department records pertaining to the lunch program, athletic activities, vocational school, and other miscellaneous receipts were examined and checked. The payments to the treasurer were checked with the treasurer's recorded receipts, and the cash on hand, including advances for petty ex- penditures, was verified.
The accounts of the sealer of weights and measures and the library department, as well as of all other departments in which money was col- lected for the town, were examined and checked, and the payments to the treasurer were proved.
In addition to the balance sheet, there are appended to this report tables showing reconciliations of the several cash accounts, summaries of the tax, motor vehicle and trailer excise, assessment, tax title, tax possession, depart- mental electric light, and water accounts, as well as schedules showing the condition and transactions of the trust, investment, and retirement funds.
While engaged in making the audit cooperation was received from all town officials, for which, on behalf of my assistants and for myself, I wish to express appreciation.
Respectfully submitted,
WILLIAM SCHWARTZ, Assistant Director of Accounts
