REPORT OF TOWN CLERK


Walter J. Dempsey and John A. Abdallah, Selectmen of Norwood, the meet- ing was called to order by the Moderator, Walter J. Gotovich. The proper service of this warrant was duly attested by James E. Quinn, Constable of Norwood. The meeting was opened with a prayer by Rabbi David Alpert.


All the requirements of the statutes and by-laws relating to the calling of the Town Meeting were complied with. The warrant calling the meet- ing was read by the Town Clerk and Accountant, Bartley W. Connolly. The articles contained in the warrant, and the action thereunder being as follows:


ARTICLE 1. To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate or transfer from available funds in the treasury for the purpose of establishing a stabilization fund under authority of Chapter 40, Section 58 of the General Laws. (On petition of the Finance Commission.)


VOTED: By transfer from Surplus Revenue, $25,000.00 and appropriated for the purpose of establishing a stabilization fund under authority of Chap- ter 40, Section 5B of the General Laws.


ARTICLE 2. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to lease for a period not exceeding five years a building or parts of building for the purpose of providing suitable headquarters for Amvets, Norwood, Massachusetts, subject to regulations to be made by the Selectmen therefor as provided by law, and to raise and appropriate a sum to provide for the current year, or take any other action in the matter.


VOTED: By taxation, $720.00.


ARTICLE 3. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of $5400.00 which was appropriated for addition to the plane parking area at the Norwood Municipal Airport at a special town meeting held October 28, 1957 to the sealing of the east-west runway at the Norwood Municipal Airport. (On petition of the Norwood Airport Commission).


VOTED: $5,400.00 by transfer from appropriation for addition to plane parking area at Norwood Municipal Airport and appropriated for sealing the east-west runway at Norwood Municipal Airport.


ARTICLE 4. To see what sum of money, in addition to the sum men- tioned in article 3, above, the Town will vote to raise by taxation and/or transfer from Surplus Revenue and appropriate for sealing of the east west runway at the Norwood Municipal Airport and for incidental expenses of the Norwood Airport Commission. (On petition of the Norwood Airport Commission).


VOTED: $2,600.00 by taxation.


ARTICLE 5. To see if the Town will vote to raise, borrow or transfer from available funds in the treasury a sum of money to construct a swim- ming pool at the Father McAleer Playground.


VOTED: $50,000.00 by transfer from available funds.

W. Thompson, Town Engineer", dated March 21, 1958, a copy of which plan being on file in the Town Clerk's Office, together with a right of way thereto, or take any other action in the matter.


VOTED: That the Town of Norwood sell and convey to Louis Orent and Malcolm Orent for the sum of $920.00, a certain parcel of land being shown on plan entitled "Town of Norwood, Mass., Plan of Land Taken for Parking Purposes, A. W. Thompson, Town Engineer", dated March 21, 1958, together with a right of way for all purposes for which private ways are used in the Town of Norwood, over the lanes in the Talbot Parking Lot, so called, as they now exist or may hereafter exist to and from Cottage Street and Nahatan Street for the benefit of the granted premises and other land of the grantees abutting thereon; and to authorize and direct the Select- men in behalf of the Town to execute, acknowledge and deliver a good and sufficient deed thereto together with said right of way, under the seal of the Town.


ARTICLE 7. To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation or transfer from available funds and appropriate to meet the further expense of damages for land takings for the Talbot Parking Lot, so-called.


VOTED: By taxation, the sum of $2,000.00.

Connolly and dated April 17, 1958, the Adjourned Annual Town Meeting, adjourned from March 27, 1958, was called to order by the Moderator, Walter J. Gotovich. VOTED: That the 86th Annual Report of the officials of the Town of Norwood be received and accepted as printed.

REPORT OF TOWN CLERK


VOTED: That the Board of Selectmen be instructed to call a special town meeting to be held on or before May 22 to consider the report of the Committee to study a wage and classification plan and that the warrant for this meeting shall include whatever articles are required by the Com- mittee for consideration by the Town Meeting Members.


ARTICLE 3. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Collector of Taxes to use the same means as a Town Treasurer may use when acting as Collector.


VOTED: That the Town Treasurer and Collector of Taxes as Collector of Taxes be and hereby is authorized to use all means of collecting taxes which a Town Treasurer may use, according to law, when acting as Col- lector of Taxes.


ARTICLE 4. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treas- urer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1959 and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws.


VOTED: To so authorize the Town Treasurer.


ARTICLE 5. To see what disposition the Town will make of money re- ceived for dog licenses.

ARTICLE 11. To see what sum of money the town will vote to raise and appropriate for the employment of district or other nurses or take any other action in the matter.

To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to lease for a period not exceeding five years a building or parts of building for the purpose of providing suitable headquarters for Post 2452, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, subject to regulations to be made by the Selectmen therefor as provided by law, and to raise and apropriate a sum to provide for the payment for the rent reserved under such lease for the current year or take any other action in the matter.


VOTED: By taxation, $500.00.


ARTICLE 16. To see what sum of sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the Town's Committee on Rehabilitation and Reemployment.


VOTED: By taxation, $200.00.
