REPORT OF THE SELECTMEN FOR THE YEAR 1961


The Selectmien submit the following report on the activities of their department for the year 1961.


The Board organized with the election of James J. Drummey, Chairman, and Mary G. Wilford, Clerk.


In General


In 1961, the Board held 54 meetings and a great many public hearings. The matters that came before the Board are much too numerous to mention but the following are a few of the more prominent subjects which will illustrate the broad scope of the Board's activities:


Negotiations with the Plimpton Press regarding the closing of Lenox Street.


Construction of Northplain Street and the reconstruction of Sumner Street.


Negotiations with the Town of Walpole regarding the interceptor sewer.


Layout and acceptance of Crestwood Circle, Azalea Drive, Juniper Drive, Redwood Drive, Bornwood Drive, Lynwood Drive and Jacobsen Drive.


Negotiations with the Town of Walpole regarding drainage of Simoni development from Walpole into Norwood.


Consideration of departmental budgets.


Court action by Hollywood Lanes.


New England Metallurgical gas storage.


Completion of streets in Westover.


Land takings for widening Lenox Street.


Referendum regarding police pay.


Court action by Cottage Wines. Dredging Neponset River.


Fourth of July celebration and parade.


Route #95 and Neponset Street interchange.


Control of operations at O'Toole sand pit.

From time to time on application therefor and report thereon licenses and permits were granted for various activities as permitted by law as follows: namely, common victuallers and transfers of same, Sunday amuse- ments, pool rooms, bowling alleys, junk dealers, public amusements, roller skating rink, lodging houses, intelligence officers, fruit and vegetable stands, sales of frozen desserts, fruit, ice cream, confectionery, exchange of second hand motor vehicles and parts, taxicabs, business and private garages, keeping, storing and sale of volatile inflammable fluid, fuel, oil and other petroleum products, after hearings, Class I, II and III licenses for purchase and sale of second hand motor parts and vehicles.
