* In 1714, Benj. Smith, of Taunton, claimed this land in behalf of his wife Sarah, nearest of kin to Margaret (Hackett) Smith. Will of 1686 not found.
A Mary Haccat was dead in 1716, leaving daus. Mary, Sarah, and Rebece !! Haccat, and sisters Rachel Berry of Boston, and others. They were daus. vi Thomas Atkins, of Boston, but formerly inhabitant and owner of land at Smal: Point near Sagadahock. A John Hacket was of Boston, 1581-8.
t In 1664, Wm. Hackett had a case in Nk. Co. court against Robert Jones. Capt. Wm. Hackett of S. commanded the sloop "Indeavour" of S. in 1671: was tried in New Jersey for not paying duty there, after having paid in New York, and his sloop was declared forfeited. [G. R., 1879, p. 10.]
William Hackett and his son worked on a vessel built at Haverhill in 1078. € for Nicholas Page of Boston. No son ment. in his will was old enough to re- ceive wages in 1678, and John was then only 9 yrs. old, if living. This is one reason for supposing that Sarah Barnard may have been a second wife.

# In G. R., 1893, pp. 138-140 and 244-5, are given English wills relating to this family, with pedigree. (2) John,1 who died in America, was 2d son of John and Sarah Hall of London, and grandson of John and Ann Hall, also of London, merchants. (1) Samuel1 Hall of Salis., who also returned to Eog .. seems not to have been nearly related to (2) John.1 In his will [G. R. 1893, ['. 507], Samuel Hall of Langford, Essex, Eng., "gent.," ment. his "adopted cousin M' John Hall of Islington" and the latter's "daughter Elizabeth." He made his wife Sarah and Mr. John Hall of Islington joint executors of hi. will. Sarah Hall, wid. of Samuel, made Mr. John Hall of Islington and Mr. Thomas Glover, a New England merchant living in London, joint executors of her will.
§ He was evidently not related to the other Halls. [See note, p. 142.]
