Westborough Marin, May 2, 1916. In furomance with the foregoing warrant the inhabitants of the Tour of Westhow, qualified to vote in elections and town affairs, met in the Town Hall and at 7.45 P.M. were called to order by moderator, Warren P. Jackson.

1. The Finance Committee reported in print. Voted, That their report he accepted.

The Committee appointed to investigate in regard to new High School building reported as follows:

We find the present building provides for only 100 Jumpils. Last September the school Tened with 175 produits. The superintendent estimates that next September there will be not less than 210 in attendance ..

To relieve the crowded condition, the pupils were divided, hast attending in the morning and hast in the afternoon; a temporary expedient Them to very serious objection. The present building has been carefully examined by your Committee and by two architects, and all agree in the opinion that it is not feasible to enlarge or remodel it, The building when executed was cheaply instructed, the original appropriation being $4000.00, and it has been in use for a long term of years.

The brick walls above the first floor are only i scant eight inches in thickness, and are in part more or less cracked, while the front walk of the original building has settled several inches.

The building was so planned that no addition can be made without cutting off the light from the rooms, except at the rear, where there is not

401

sufficient space, there being only 4 8 feet is the division

Besides this, changes necessary to mania the building comply with the law, would ente? expense of several Chowaiend de th

to provide the necessary facilities your Committee has had under consideration three propositions, was follows: First . " he enlargement of the present building. second. To continue this building in use for the present with such changes as the law requires, and build a structure to be connected with the old by corridors, with capacity for 300 Jupit in all; this to the planned as part of a new High School Building, to be completed later por.

Third. a new High School Building The second plan has had careful consider- ation, and sketches and plans have been made by competent architects, and careful estimates made, and it is found that the cost of such building, furnishing accommodations for 200 pupils, together with the estimated expense of changes , necessary in the old building, is estimated at about 50,000.00 for a capacity of 300 pupils in all. The Committee is of the opinion that the difference in cost as against a wholly new building, is too little to intitle it to serious consideration .

Up to the proposition for a new building, your" Committee received from the School Committee Three sets of bitches and plans submitted by architect of ability and experience, familiar with school house construction.

One set of these plans seems to us to the well suited for our needs.

at calls for a building to he of red brick, with, sand stone trimmings; two stories with high basement, to be of first class construction, all

fire noof except the flat roof; well lighted Throughout. "tie plans were made after consultation with the School Committee and Superintendent and provide the necessary facilities for a modern High School building, providing accommodations for 300 produits. the cost of such a building complete without additional equipment, is estimated at 60000.00 on the basis of present cost of labor and materials. The Committee recommends that the town erect a new High school building as proposed herewith.

as to the matter of site, the committee is of the opinion that all things considered, the Present High School lot is best suited for the location .

If the old school house should be removed to make way for the new, it would of course be necessary to find temporary accommodations for the school while the new was building. Respectfully submitted, george H. Woodman G. P. Keating Committee E. a. Hersey a. M. F. Clark M. H. Walker, Chairman The report of the Committee was accepted and laid on the table to be taken or under article 6.

Voted, To pass over.
