5. Lot Size. No dwelling shall be erected in an "A" Residence Dis- trict on a lot containing less than twenty thousand square feet or less than one hundred and twenty feet wide, or in a "B" Residence District or in a Business District, on a lot containing less than twelve thousand square feet or less than one hundred feet wide, provided that one dwelling may be erected on any lot which, at the time this by-law is adopted, is separately owned.


Article 17. Voted that this article be defeated wherein an amend- ment to the Zoning By-Law was submitted as an alternative proposition in the event that Articles 15 and 16 were not accepted.


Article 18. Voted unanimously that the sum of $30.00 be trans- ferred from the unexpended balance of the appropriation made under Article 8 of the Special Town Meeting of November 30, 1953 for the purpose of purchasing for school purposes the following described par- cel of land, from Myron R. Brennan and Eunice K. Brennan:


A certain parcel of land in Medfield, Norfolk County, Massachusetts and bounded and described as follows:


SOUTHWESTERLY by other land of the Town of Medfield, eighty- two and 55/100 (82.55) feet;


NORTHWESTERLY by land now or formerly of Bois, fifty-three and 31/100 (53.31) feet; and


SOUTHEASTERLY by other land of Myron R. Brennan and Eunice K. Brennan (formerly of Willard F. Pear) ninety-four and 89/100 (94.89) feet.


Said premises contain 2,194 square feet of land and are shown on a "Plan of Land in Medfield, Mass." dated December 5, 1955, drawn by MacCarthy Engineering Service, Inc. and recorded with Norfolk Deeds as Plan No. 1685 of 1955 in Book 3438, Page 250. The transaction to be carried out by the Board of Selectmen.


Article 19. Voted to appoint Leon M. Bowden to the School Build- ing Committee created by the action taken under Article 12 of the Special Town Meeting of July 18, 1955.

Article 20. Voted that the sum of $2,000.00 be transferred from available funds in the Town Treasury and that the sum of $30,000.00 be raised and appropriated by borrowing and the Treasurer with the ap- proval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow the sum of $30,000.00 by issuing bonds or notes therefor in denominations of $5,000.00 each, the whole loan to be paid in not more than six years from the date of issue of the first bond or note under the authority of Chapter 44, of the General Laws, for the purchase of land for school purposes described as follows:


Parcel 1. Land belonging to Byron Bristol shown on a plan of land drawn by MacCarthy Engineering Service, Inc. dated July 11, 1956, and comprising lots No. 508, 422, 423, 425 and a part of lot No. 426 as shown on the Assessors' Maps of the Town of Medfield and containing 30.93 acres.


Parcel 2. Lands belonging to Esther B. and Byron Bristol and being lots No. 421 and 428 as shown on the Assessors' Maps of the Town of Medfield and containing approximately 22 acres.


Parcel 3. Lands of William Blackett off Pound Street shown on a plan of land drawn by MacCarthy Engineering Service, Inc. dated August 2, 1956, and comprising lots No. 420 and a part of lot .No. 403 as shown on the Assessors' Maps of the Town of Medfield and con- taining 7 acres, more or less.


The committee consisting of William F. Mittendorf, Charles Cain, William B. Rogers, Hope Wallingford and John Roskilly, Jr. is hereby authorized to consumate the purchase of the aforedescribed land.


The vote for the passage of this article was: 312 in favor, 6 against.


Article 21. Voted to accept the report of the committee appointed to study the most advisable location of the sidewalk on North Street from Dale Street to the new school entrance, said committee to remain in power and report at a future town meeting.


Article 22. Voted to accept the report of the Swimming Pool Committee as read.


Article 23. Voted to transfer the sum of $200.00 from the Bathing Beach appropriation under Article 3 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1956 for the expenses of a new Swimming Pool Committee consisting of the following members: Richard E. Gorman, Daniels Hamant, David Kingsbury, Charles Mains, Frederic Pemple, Elizabeth Place, Paul Seeley, Claire H. Smith, Thomas Tapley and Gordon Yarlott. Said committee to look into the feasibility of constructing a swimming pool on Lot No. 120 or elsewhere.

Article 24. Voted against the passage of this article wherein an amendment to the Zoning By-laws seeking to place a section of the town under the classification of "C" Residence Districts was proposed

Article 25. Voted to transfer the sum of $3,500.00 from the unex- pended balance of the Pumping Station appropriation voted under Article 1 of the Special Town Meeting of December 13, 1954 for the purpose of an installation of an extension of a water main in Adams Street from its present termination in a northwesterly direction for an approximate distance of 570 feet under the provisions of the Water Betterment Act.


Article 26. Voted to transfer the sum of $1,500.00 from the unex- pended balance of the Water Account voted under Article 3 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1956 for the purpose of surfacing Causeway Street with asphalt from a point at or near the intersection of Claypit Road and Causeway Street for a distance of 1,800 feet more or less toward the Norfolk Line to a point 100 feet beyond the residence of Peter C. Murach.


Article 27. Voted to accept the following named sums as Per- petual Trust Funds for the care of lots in the Vine Lake Cemetery, the interest thereof or as may be necessary to be used for said care viz:

In the name of the Commonwealth you are directed to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Medfield, qualified to vote in elections and in town affairs, to meet at the Town Hall, in said Medfield on Monday, the fourth day of March A.D. 1957 at 12:00 Noon then and there to act on the following articles:


Article 1. To nominate all Town Officers required to be elected annually, viz:


One Moderator, One Town Clerk, One Treasurer, Three Constables, One Tree Warden, all for one year;


One Selectman, One Assessor, Two Members of the School Com- mittee, Two Trustees of the Public Library, One Member of the Board of Health, One Cemetery Commissioner, One Member of the Water and Sewerage Board, One Member of the Board of Public Welfare, all for three years;


One Member of the Planning Board for five years.


The polls to be opened at 12:00 noon and shall be closed at 8:00 o'clock P.M.


Article 2. To see if the Town will vote to accept the reports of the several Town Officers for the past year.


Article 3. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate and/or transfer such sums of money as may be necessary to defray the following departmental and other expenses of the Town for the ensuing year, and to fix the salary and compensation of all elected officers of the Town as provided for in Section 108, Chapter 41 of the General Laws:
