Article 37. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Moder- ator to appoint a committee of five (5) members for the purpose of evaluating the present form of the warrant for the annual town meeting and making recommendations concerning any changes it might deem advisable, said committee to report to the next annual town meeting, or at any intervening special town meeting. Article 39. To see if the Town will vote to accept the following pay scale for patrolmen in the Police Department of the Town of Med- field, to become effective upon its passage:

Salary adjustments from minimum to maximum to be set on a three year basis with an annual increase of $300.00 per year, provided however that no officer presently employed shall receive a less sum than his present salary schedule, or do or act anything in relation thereto. Article 40. To see if the Town will vote to accept the provisions of Section 16C of Chapter 147 of the General Laws providing for a five day week for members of the police forces in cities and towns, or do or act anything in relation thereto. (Petition of Ruth F. Dornig and others)


Article 41. To see if the Town will vote to amend the Zoning By- Law and the Zoning Map of the Town of Medfield, as amended, by removing the following described parcel of land in the Town of Med- field from the provisions of "Section IV Business District Uses" and placing the same under the provisions of "Section B Industrial District Uses" or do or act anything in relation thereto.


The parcel of land sought to be rezoned is described as follows:


NORTHEASTERLY by Park Street;


NORTHWESTERLY by Main Street;


SOUTHWESTERLY by the location of the Mansfield and Framing- ham Branch of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad and SOUTHEASTERLY by the southeasterly line of Oak Street as that line would be extended in a southwesterly direction to the Right of Way of said branch of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Rail- road. ANNUAL TOWN MEETING FOR THE ELECTION OF OFFICERS


March 4, 1957


Pursuant to the foregoing warrant the meeting was opened at 12:00 o'clock noon by the Town Clerk following the reading of the warrant through Article 1. The ballot box had been previously checked and found in good working order, instructions to voters posted and specimen ballots displayed at the entrance and within the polling places. The following persons were sworn in and assigned to their duties: Mary Mair Etienne and Alice Ripley distributing ballots, John Guiney, Char- lotte Randolph, Mildred Lombard, Lorraine Ricci, Joseph Mair, Alva Keirstead, Viola Burr, Margaret Kennedy, Charles Morse, Constance Knight, Cynthia Petrie and Laura Atherton as tellers; Abigail Sheahan and Anne Young checking at the ballot box and Thomas Clancy in charge of the ballot box.


The polls were declared closed at 8:00 P.M.


The ballots were counted in open meeting and after tabulation the results were announced as follows:


The total vote cast was 1365 (Registered voters-2110).


This was a representation of nearly 65 per cent of the registered voters and was the highest vote cast at a town election.

Article 4. Voted to authorize the Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1957, and to issue note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note- or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year, in accordance. with Chapter 44, Section 17, General Laws.


Article 5. Voted to authorize the Collector to use all means in the collection of taxes as the Treasurer might if elected to that office.


Article 6. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $5,000.00 for the construction of a section of High Street, said money to be used in conjunction with any money allotted by the State and County.


Article 7. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $700.00 for- the widening and improvement of Main Street from Pleasant Street to. Miller Street, said money to be used with any money allotted by the State and County.


Article 8. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $11,758.59 by transferring said sum from available funds in the Town Treasury allotted by the State under the provisions of Chapter 718 of the Acts of 1956 for the permanent widening and improvement of Main Street between Miller Street and Park Street.


Article 9. Voted unanimously that the Town accept as public ways: the following private ways off Spring Street:


Kingsbury Drive which commences on the westerly side of Spring Street and extends in a westerly direction for a distance of approxi- mately 383 feet to Bartlett Avenue, a private way;


Bartlett Avenue which commences at Kingsbury Drive, a private way and extends in a northwesterly direction for a distance of approximately 635 feet to Pine Grove Road, a private way;

Pine Grove Road which commences on the westerly side of Spring Street and extends in a westerly direction for a distance of approxi- mately 480 feet to Bartlett Avenue, a private way;


as laid out by the Selectmen and as shown on the plans and orders of lay-out on file in the Town Clerk's office; authorize the Selectmen to acquire by eminent domain or otherwise such rights, titles, and ease- ments on such lands as are necessary therefor to accomplish said purposes.


Article 10. Voted to authorize the Water and Sewerage Board to appoint one of its members as Water Superintendent.


Article 11. Voted that this article be dismissed, wherein the Water Department sought the purchase of a new truck for its use.


Article 12. Voted that the members of the Fire Department be- paid $38.27 per year and the sum of $2.00 per hour while working at fires.


Article 13. Voted to accept Sections 42, 43, and 44 of Chapter 48 of the General Laws, as amended, relating to the establishment of a Fire Department.


Article 14. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $350.00 for the replacement of electric wiring and switchboard panel in the Town. Hall.


Article 15. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $500.00 to purchase fire hose for the Fire Department.


Article 16. Voted to increase the term of office of Tree Warden from one year to three (3) years, said three year term of office to commence in the year 1958.


Article 17. Voted that this article be dismissed wherein the Tree and Moth Departments sought the purchase of a new truck and winch for their use.


Article 18. Voted to accept as a gift from Mrs. Ella C. Marcionette for the purposes of a school to be known as the AMOS CLARK KINGS- BURY SCHOOL, two parcels of land in Medfield with the description and terms of said offer to be incorporated in the town records as given in the following legal conveyance:


I, Ella C. Marcionette of Medfield, Mass., being unmarried, for con-

sideration paid, grant to the Town of Medfield, a municipal corporation in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, two parcels of land in said Medfield situated off the southeasterly side of Pound Street shown as Parcels A and B on a Plan of Land in Medfield, Mass., dated December 31, 1956, by Cheney Engineering Co., and bounded and described as follows:


PARCEL A.


Northwesterly by the southeasterly line of Pound Street, ninety (90) feet;


Easterly by other land of the grantor, by a curved line having a radius of twenty-five (25) feet, a distance of thirty-nine and 27/100 (39.27) feet;


Northeasterly by the same, three hundred three and 99/100 (303.99) feet;


Southeasterly by Parcel B, forty (40) feet;


Southwesterly by other land of the grantor, three hundred four and 34/100 (304.34) feet; and


Southerly by the same, by a curved line having a radius of twenty-five (25) feet, a distance of thirty-nine and 27/100 (39.27) feet.


Containing 13,435 square feet, according to said plan.


PARCEL B.


Southeasterly by land now or formerly of Esther B. Bristol, one thousand sixty-eight and 79/100 (1,068.79) feet;


Southwesterly by land now or formerly of Henry C. and Mary E. Bridge, two hundred forty-three and 39/100 (243.39) feet;


Northwesterly by other land of the grantor and by Parcel A, one thousand twenty-three and 29/100 (1,023.29) feet; and


Northeasterly by land now or formerly of William C. and Barbara R. Blackett, two hundred forty (240) feet.

Reserving to the grantor, her heirs and assigns, as appurtenant to her remaining land, a right of way for all purposes for which ways are now or hereafter may be used in Medfield, in common with the grantee, throughout Parcel A.

This grant is made, however, upon the following conditions, namely: (1) that the granted premises shall not be used for any purpose other than public school purposes, and (2) that within ten years from the date hereof a school shall be erected on the granted premises or on premises adjacent thereto and used in connection therewith, and shall. be called the AMOS CLARK KINGSBURY SCHOOL. Upon a breach of either of the foregoing conditions, the grantor, her heirs or devisees shall have a right of entry for breach of condition.


The premises are conveyed subject to taxes assessed as of Jan. 1, 1957.


This conveyance is made as a gift, and no documentary stamps are affixed.


In appreciation of this generous gift the Townspeople wish the Board of Selectmen to send a letter of thanks to Mrs. Marcionette.


Article 19. Voted to accept the report of the Committee appointed at the 1956 Annual Town Meeting to look into the acquisition of land for additional town purposes.


Article 20. Voted that this article be dismissed wherein an instal- lation of approximately 4000 feet of 8 inch pipe in High Street was sought.


Article 21. Voted to appropriate the sum of $5,000.00 for the in- stallation of an eight-inch water main in High Street from the corner of South Street in a southerly direction a distance of approximately 815 feet, by transferring $1,000.00 from the unexpended balance of the appropriation under Article 1 of the Special Town Meeting of December 13, 1954; and raising and appropriating the remaining $4,000.00; this installation to be in accordance with the regulation relative to water main assessments approved by the Town on March 14, 1956.


Article 22. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $900.00 for the construction of a sidewalk on North Street between Pine Street and the new school entrance.


Article 23. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $4,000.00 to renovate the science laboratory at the High School.


Article 24. Voted that this article be dismissed wherein a sum of money was sought to renew the water pipes in the North Street School ..
