ANNUAL TOWN MEETING FOR THE TRANSACTION OF BUSINESS HELD ON MARCH 10, 1958
The meeting was called to order by the Moderator at 7:30 P. M. in the High School Auditorium and the following action was taken on the remaining articles in the warrant.
Article 2. Voted to accept the reports of the several Town Officers for the past year.
Article 3. Voted to raise and appropriate the following named sums to defray the departmental and other expenses of the Town for the ensuing year and to fix the salary and compensation of all elected officers of the Town as provided for in Section 108, Chapter 41 of the General Laws:

Article 4. Voted to authorize the Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1958, and to issue note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year, in accordance with Chapter 44, Section 17, General Laws.
Article 5. Voted to authorize the Collector to use all means in the collection of taxes as the Treasurer might if elected to that office.
Article 6. Voted to accept as a public way that part of Grove Street which commences on the easterly side of West Street, a public way, and extends in a southerly and easterly direction for a distance of approximately 1063.34 feet to that section of Grove Street accepted by Article 20 of the Adjourned Annual Town Meeting of March 14, 1955, as laid out by the Selectmen and as shown on a plan entitled "Plan of Relocation and Widening of Grove Street, Medfield, Mass.", dated January 15, 1958, and on file in the Town Clerk's Office and to authorize the Selectmen to acquire by eminent domain or otherwise such rights, titles and easements as may be necessary to accomplish said purpose.
Article 7. Voted to transfer the sum of $899.93 from the unex- pended balance of an amount appropriated under Article 12 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1955 and amounts borrowed in connection therewith and to raise and appropriate the sum of $9,100.07 for the construction of High Street; said money to be used in conjunction with money allotted by the State and County for this purpose.
Article 8. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $300.00 for the purpose of replacing the surface flooring of the overhead bridge on Curve Street.
Article 9. Voted that this article be dismissed wherein a pick-up truck for the Street Department was sought.
Article 10. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $5,000.00 for the purpose of purchasing a sidewalk tractor and plow, and bulldozer conversion and blade, and authorize the Selectmen to trade the present sidewalk tractor as part of the purchase price.
Article 11. Voted to dismiss this article wherein a sum of money for the purchase of an ambulance and accessories was being asked.
Article 12. Voted to accept as a gift an easement in lands of John D. Williams and Beatrice B. Williams as heretofore granted to the Town of Medfield by instrument recorded with Norfolk Deeds at Book 3610, Page 556.

Article 13. Voted to accept as a gift an easement in lands of Harrison K. and Jacqueline M. Dutton and Burton S. Hooker, as hereto- fore granted to the Town of Medfield.
Article 14. Voted to adopt the following Town By-Law:
By-Law. The Park and Planning Board of the Town of Med- field shall in behalf of the Town of Medfield, determine and desig- nate the street number for all buildings built or to be built upon all lots shown on any sub-division plan hereafter submitted to it for formal approval by it under the provisions of the Sub-Division Control Law, so called.
Article 15. Voted to authorize the Water and Sewerage Board to appoint one of its members as Water Superintendent.
Article 16. Voted to transfer the sum of $600.00 from the unex- pended balance of the appropriation under Article 1 of the Special Town Meeting of December 13, 1954 for the purpose of purchasing for water standpipe purposes of 40,000 square feet of land on Mt. Nebo, so-called, said premises being shown on a certain "Plan of Proposed Standpipe Lot and Right of Way to be acquired by the Town of Med- field, Mass., Cheney Engineering Co., Needham, Mass., February 15, 1957," which said plan is on file in the Office of the Water and Sewerage Board.
Article 17. Voted to accept as a gift from sundry owners an ease- ment in, on, over and under several parcels of land all being shown as "Right of Way" on a certain "Plan of Proposed Standpipe Lot and Right of Way to be acquired by the Town of Medfield, Mass., Cheney Engi- neering Co., Needham, Mass., February 15, 1957" which said plan is on file in the Office of the Water and Sewerage Board.
Article 18. Voted that this article be dismissed wherein the Tree Department sought the purchase of a truck and winch for its use.
Article 19. Voted that this article be dismissed wherein a com- mittee would be appointed to prepare plans, specifications and costs of a Fire and Police Station.
Article 20. Voted to amend the Zoning By-Law of the Town of Medfield as amended March 1957, by adding to Section II, "AA", "A" "C", Residence District Uses, Paragraph 8, the following:
(i) Alteration to single or multi-family residences so as to adapt them to additional limited multiple family use upon the following conditions:
(1) That there will be no change in the existing district use and the approval shall automatically cease when the structure is removed.

(2) That a minimum floor space of five hundred (500) square feet per family unit be provided.
(3) That satisfactory off street parking be provided.
(4) That each family unit must be a complete housekeeping unit.
(5) That additions or appurtenances may not be added with- out the prior approval of the Board of Appeals, except for openings for ingress and egress, for necessary stairs and steps including shelters therefore, and for the provisions of the housing of one motor vehicle per family unit.
(6) And upon other conditions as may be lawfully required by the Board of Health, the Building, Plumbing and Wiring Inspectors, and the Board of Appeals, not inconsistent with the foregoing.

Article 21. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $250.00 for the purpose of repairing the existing rail fence along Frairy Street beside Baker's Pond.
Article 22. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $150.00 for the purpose of installing a drinking fountain adjacent to the tennis court on Adams Street.
Article 23. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $500.00 for the repair and maintenance of the structures and land on that portion of Metacomet Park which is being used by the Medfield Little League, said sum to be expended for said purpose by the Park and Planning Board in consultation with the officers of the Medfield Little League Association.
Article 24. Voted to accept the following pay scale for a Police Chief:
Minimum $4,700.00 per year, or $90.38 per week
Maximum $5,700.00 per year, or $109.61 per week
To be increased at the rate of $333.33 per year or approximately $6.40 per week until the maximum has been reached. Maximum time from minimum to maximum of the rate range is three years.
Article 25. Voted to have the Police Chief draw up a set of "Police Regulations" to be presented to the Board of Selectmen for their approval and in turn to the Town for approval as soon as possible after his appointment.

Article 26. Voted that the following pay scale for a forty hour work week for Patrolmen now or hereafter employed by the Medfield Police Department shall be:
Minimum $3,380.00 per year, or $65.00 per week Maximum $4,300.00 per year, or $82.69 per week
Annual pay raises of $230.00 per year shall be granted to each em- ployed patrolman on the anniversary date of his employment until the maximum pay rate is reached; provided however, that no patrolman presently employed shall receive a salary which is less than the salary he is receiving on the date of the passage of this article.
Note It was voted that action be taken on Article 39 prior to action on Article 26. After discussion said Article 39 failed to pass.
Article 27. Voted to accept the following vacation schedule for members of the Medfield Police Force:
One year's service - Two weeks Five year's service - Three weeks Ten year's service - Four weeks
Article 28. (Voted by reason of an emergency condition to sus- pend the operation of By-law concerning the adjournment of the An- nual Town Meeting and to continue action on the remaining articles.)
Article 28. Voted to accept the following rules pertaining to uni- forms of the Medfield Police Force:
That each new member shall be given complete regulation uniform and equipment at the Town's expense, and each regular full-time member of the Police Force be granted an allowance not to exceed $50.00 per year for replacement costs. Complete uniforms to be worn at all time when on duty, and not to be used when off duty.
Article 29. Voted to accept the following regulations in regard to sick leave for the Medfield Police Force:
Any regular full time employee shall be granted sick leaves aggra- gating not more than fifteen working days per year, without loss of pay. Sick leave will not be accumulative. For the protection of the Town, presentation of a doctor's certificate as proof of incapacity to work will be required.
Article 30. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $225.00 to purchase insurance covering a period not to exceed six months, for the purpose of providing occupational job coverage in the amount of $150.00 per month for members of the police force.

Article 31. Voted to hear and act on any reports of committees previously appointed. The report of the Town Warrant Study Commit- tee was read and accepted with said committee continuing in power to further study warrant needs.
Article 32. Voted to have the Moderator appoint a committee to study the needs of the Town for an Ambulance or Station Wagon for ambulance purposes and report their findings at a future town meeting.
Article 33. Voted to appoint a committee of five members and authorize it to make arrangements and to spend money appropriated under Article 3 for the observance of Memorial Day.
Article 34. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $1,000.00 to provide suitable quarters for the Beckwith Post No. 110 American Legion in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 40, Section 9, General Laws (Ter. Ed.) and amendments thereto.
Article 35. Voted to accept as a gift the sum of $50.00 to be added to the Clara Savage Littledale Fund and the further sum of $50.00 to be expended this year to buy children's books by the Trustees of the Public Library.
Article 36. Voted to instruct the Selectmen to petition the Boston Edison Company to install street lights on poles No. 1 and No. 5 on Pleasant Court, the cost of same to be taken from the regular street light appropriation under Article 3.
Article 37. Voted to instruct the Selectmen to petition the Boston Edison Company to install three street lights on Charlesdale Road and two street lights on Richard Road, the cost of same to be taken from the regular street light appropriation under Article 3.
Article 38. Voted that this article be dismissed wherein installa- tion of drainage and surfacing of Dale Street between Grove Street and Bridge Street was petitioned.

In the name of the Commonwealth you are directed to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Medfield, qualified to vote in elections and in town affairs, to meet at the High School Auditorium in said Medfield on Monday the twenty-eighth day of April A.D. 1958 at 7:30 P.M. then and there to act on the following articles:
Article 1. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate and/or transfer from available funds in the Town Treasury the sum of $275.00 payable to the County of Norfolk as reimbursement for land damages paid in the first instance by the County of Norfolk to Robert B. and Ruth L. Allen in settlement of a suit for damages by Superior Court Petition No. 61403 in the matter of the relocation of South Street, and the further sum of $75.00 incurred as expense of said unit.
Article 2. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate and/or transfer from available funds in the Town Treasury the sum of $75.00 payable to the County of Norfolk to Harry F. and Pearl A. Spear in settlement of a suit for damages by Superior Court Petition No. 61413 in the matter of the relocation of South Street and the further sum of $25.00 incurred as expense of said suit.
Article 3. To see if the Town will instruct the Selectmen to sell by bid eight (8) cords of wood more or less or do or act anything in relation thereto.
Article 4. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to sell by bid two (2) dump bodies and hoists or do or act anything in relation thereto.
Article 5. To see if the Town will vote to abandon for purposes of a public way all portions of the travelled way which lay outside the lines of Grove Street as the same are shown on a certain plan recorded with Norfolk Deeds as Plan No. 243 of 1958 in Plan Book 205, or do or act anything in relation thereto.

Pursuant to the foregoing warrant the meeting was called to order by the Moderator at 7:30 P.M. and the following action was taken on the articles therein:
Article 1.
