Article 12 taken up. (Purchase of Pumping Units)


The Finance Committee recommended that no appro- priation be made under Article 12 of the Warrant.


Mr. Estabrook offered the following substitute motion :


That the sum of three thousand ($3,000.00) dollars be and hereby is appropriated for the purchase of two (2) trailer type pumping units for the use of the Fire Depart- ment; and that for this purpose the said sum of three thou- sand ($3,000.00) dollars be taken from surplus revenue now in the treasury and expended under the direction of the Chief of the Fire Department subject to the approval of the Board of Selectmen.


On being put to a vote the Moderator declared the mo- tion lost.

QUESTIONS


To obtain a full expression of opinion, voters should vote on all three of the following questions :-


(a) If a voter desires to permit the sale in this Town of any and all alcoholic beverages to be drunk on and off the premises where sold, he will vote "Yes" on all three questions.


(b) If he desires to permit the sale herein of wines and malt beverages only to be drunk on and off the premises where sold, he will vote "No" on question one, "Yes" on question two and "No" on question three.


(c) If he desires to permit the sale herein of all al- coholic beverages but only in packages, so called, not to be drunk on the premises where sold, he will vote "No" on questions one and two and "Yes" on question three.


(d) If he desires to permit the sale herein of wines and malt beverages to be drunk on and off the premises where sold and in addition other alcoholic beverages but only in packages, so called, not to be drunk on the premises where sold, he will vote "No" on question one and "Yes" on questions two and three.


(e) If he desires to prohibit the sale herein of any and all alcoholic beverages whether to be drunk on or off the premises where sold, he will vote "No" on all three ques- tions.

Chapter 53, Section 19


"Shall the Senator from this district be instructed to vote for the establishment of a lottery to be conducted by the Commonwealth, which shall be known as the Old Age Assistance Sweepstakes, the net proceeds of which shall provide additional revenue for the Old Age Assistance Fund ?"


"Shall the Senator from this district be instructed to vote for legislation providing for ten dollar weekly pay- ments to each recipient of Old Age Assistance?"


All the above to be voted for on one ballot. The polls will be open from 7 A. M. until 8 o'clock P. M. and you will notify and warn the voters of the Town of Arlington to meet at the times and places herein specified by leaving at every dwelling house in the Town a printed copy of this Warrant and also by posting a copy of the same at the doors of the Town Hall and in a conspicuous place in each of the fourteen Precincts of the Town seven days, at least, prior to the time of said meeting.

By virtue of this Warrant I have notified and warned the legal voters of the Town of Arlington to meet at the times and places and for the purposes herein named by causing a printed attested copy of the same to be left at every dwelling house in the Town, and by posting an at- tested copy at the doors of the Town Hall seven days at least before said day of meeting and by posting attested copies in two or more conspicuous places in each voting precinct in the Town. A notice of the time, places and ob- jects of the meeting was published in the local papers.
