54. Rufus Harrison, son of Lieut. Rufus and Sally ( Cram) Remick, lives on the homestead of his father at Kittery. See page 71. Shipbuilder and farmer. Was employed at the Navy Yard for many years. Retired in 1874, thus ending four gen- erations of shipbuilders on the Pascataqua, extending over a period of 130 years. Their skill helped in no small degree to build up the wooden ships of the U. S. Navy and the merchant marine, from the celebrated "Ranger" of 1776, on which his grandfather and great grandfather were employed as con- structors, to the more celebrated "Kearsage," built in 1861. He married at Boston, 10 Sept. 1843. AAnne Cornelia, dau. of Oliver and Eliza ( Staples ) Philbrick, who was born 3 June 1826, and died 10 Oct. 1877. Eight children born at Kittery :

I .. three years, and in the Gulf of Mexico three years. Was promoted by President Cleveland 24 Nov. 1885. Served three years on the coast of Maine, after which he made a tour of Europe for six months. Then served three years in Bos- ton, six months at Wilmington. N. C .. and three years on the coast of

Maine. Was retired for disability 3 May 1895, since which time he has been engaged in real estate business and traveling, with residence at the old homestead in Kittery. He published in 1901 "A Record of the Ser- vices of the Commissioned Officers and Enlisted Men of Kittery and Eliot" in the Revolution, a work showing much historical and genealogical research. To him is due the credit for this genealogical account of the Remick family.

Christopher Rogers witnessed a deed in Kittery in 1643. He was servant of Sir Ferdinando Gorges and later a planter at Pascataqua. In 1645 he sold to John Gouch land in York. See page 225.

OLD KITTERY
William Rogers of York signed submission to Massachu- setts in 1652. A William Rogers married a daughter of Hugh Gunnison and lived at the mouth of Spruce Creek, on the west side. He sold his house and land here to Elihu Gunnison 6 May 1675 and acknowledged the deed 24 Sept. 1780. A William Rogers was at Falmouth in 1681 and 1689. He married widow Rebecca Wharf, dau. of Mrs. Arthur Mackworth. He had dan. Alice, who married I May 1676, Henry Crown of Newcastle, N. H.
I. Thomas Rogers was in Saco in 1638. He lived in what is now the western part of Old Orchard, on the seashore, near the mouth of Goose-fair Brook. He married Esther, dau. of Richard Foxwell. His house was destroyed by Indians in 1676 and he moved to Kittery. In 1677 administration was granted to James Robinson on the estate of his father-in-law, Thomas Rogers. In 1683 the court records mention "Richard Rogers, son of Thomas Rogers deceased, & others of his children some of which are come to age." He had sons, Richard, William and John, and three daughters, one of whom married James Robin- son and another may have been Lydia, who married, 12 Nov. 1687. John Osburn. Folsom says James Robinson married Lucretia, dau. of Richard Foxwell.
2. Richard, son of Thomas and Esther ( Foxwell) Rogers, born about 1662, married Eleanor, perhaps widow of Philip Foxwell. He settled on the west side of Spruce Creek and died 8 June 1740 in the 78th year of his age. Wife died 24 June 1747 in the Soth year of her age. Children :

ROGERS.
George Rogers was in the employ of John Winter at Rich- mond Island in 1639. He was living at Long Reach in 1641 and received a grant of his land there in 1648. He was a juryman in 1650 and is last mentioned in 1654. See page 97.
Since Richard Rogers lived on the homestead of George, he is supposed to have been his son. Richard took the oath of fidelity 9 July 1669. The name of his first wife is not known. He mar- ried (2) Sarah, widow of Robert Tidy and dau. of John Libby of Scarborough. His widow married Christopher Banfield. Children were :
