WHITE.

John White, 1604-9, was in Kittery as early as 1640. Had wife Lucy in 1670. Their daughter Hannah married Robert Allen. William Frye calls Francis Allen his "cousin." See York Deeds, VII. 107. This usually means nephew, but in this case I can only explain it as meaning cousin in the recent sense of that word, and this could be only by the assumption that Adrian Frye married Sarah, daughter of John White. Facts seem to indicate that William Thompson married another daughter of John White.

Nov. 7. 1665, Dr. Roads was presented at court for living in a suspicious manner at John White's house. This is the earliest mention of any doctor in what is now Eliot. Thomas Rhodes appears a little later, but there is no evidence that he was a physi- cian.

John White, probably son of the above, is mentioned in court records in 1710. The name of White is not mentioned later in that part of the town.

Joshua White was a deacon in the church at Kittery Point and had a daughter Elizabeth, who married Joshua Fernald, 18 Nov. 1764.

WILLIAMS.

John Williams was one of the servants of Capt. John Mason. Rowland Williams called himself a planter, "of Virginia," 24 Oct. 1654. He bought land of Thomas Withers in 1674.
