(Parry) Remick. He learned the trade of ship carpenter with his father, after which for some years, in company with Nathaniel Paul, James K. Paul and Elias Remick, he made contracts for putting in decks of ships built by George Raynes. Later he worked in the Navy Yard and the various shipyards on the Pas- cataqua River. He carried the mail from Portsmouth to Eliot nineteen years. During all this time he carried on his farm, giv- ing much attention to gardening and raising of fruits. At one time he raised the most Baldwin apples of any farmer in Maine. Hle was connected with the State militia fourteen years, rising to the rank of Captain. His commission, signed by Gov. A. K. Parris, is dated 2 Feb. 1826. He was discharged from this office at his own request, 26 Feb. 1831, having declined further promo- tion. He was one of the original proprietors of Eliot Academy. He held several town offices, being treasurer several years. He was, in fact, an enterprising, influential and highly respected citizen.


He died 19 Dec. 1887. His wife died 27 Sept. 1884. Children were :

SEVENTH GENERATION.


Martin Parry Tobey, son of James S. and Mary Jane (Remick ) Tobey, was born in Eliot, 15 Jan. 1841. He went to sea when a boy in the ship Rockingham, the last ship sunk by the

Alabama, and was driven ashore in Bristol Channel, Eng., in the great hurricane in November 1859. He served as an apprentice at Kittery Navy Yard when the Kearsage was built, that sunk the Alabama. Hle afterward entered the employ of the American Fire Alarm Telegraph Company as an electrician and worked in seventeen different cities. He was also inspector in the Auto-

matic Telegraph Company's line from New York to Washington. He was one of the owners of schooner Pascataqua, built in Kit- tery. and was one of the projectors of the Eliot Hotel Company. Hle now resides on the old homestead in Eliot.


He married, 1 May 1882, Abbie Elvena, daughter of Charles W. and Mary .A. ( Paul) Rogers, who was born 1 July 1858. Their children are :

TUCKER.


Richard Tucker, said to have been of Stagumbery, Somerset Co., Eng., was one of the first settlers of old Falmouth. Me. Wife was Margaret Reynolds. A daughter, Seaborn, married Nicholas Hodge of Portsmouth, N. H. No male descendants. Ile was probably the one who operated the mills at Newichawannock about 1657.


The estate of William Tucker, "lately deceased," was adminis- tered by Nathaniel Fryer in 1666. Grace, wife of William Tucker of the Isles of Shoals is mentioned in 1665. In 1694 Fryer calls Wilmott Tucker his "natural and beloved sister."

John Tucker, fisherman, of the Isles of Shoals, died in 1670 and left all his property to John Ameredeth and wife Joanna.


Francis Tucker, a merchant of Newcastle, N. H., mentioned as late as 1702, deposed in 1681 that he was "about 30 years of age."


John and Lewis Tucker, brothers, were early in Falmouth and moved to Kittery. Lewis was a fisherman at the Istes of Shoals and settled in Kittery as early as 1680. Ile married Sarah, dau. of Hugh and Sarah ( Tilly-Lynn) Gunnison, probably his second wife. May have moved back to Falmouth. Lewis Tucker sold land in Falmouth in 1719, bounded by land of John Tucker. Children :


NICHOLAS b. 1653 as per deposition; m. Jane -; d. in 1717. See will. Ch., William m. in Portsmouth 27 Dec. 1711 Alice, sister of James Grindle, or Grindell. They were published in Boston. She was a widow in 1755. William and Alice Tucker had ch., Sarah b. 14 July 1715 m. about 1739 John Ingersoll, (2) John Holden; Josiah b. 14 Oct. 1727. Other children of Nicholas Tucker were Joseph, Margaret and Grace. The last m. Win. Wentworth and was shot by the sentinel, Joseph Gun- nison in 1707, leaving a son William.

WADLEIGH.


This name is frequently written Wadlin. John Wadleigh bought land of an Indian chief in Wells, Me., in 1650. Descend- ants lived in Exeter. N. H., and Salisbury, Mass.


William Wadleigh of Berwick was probably connected with this family. He appears with wife Elizabeth in 1703. The fol- lowing children were baptized at South Berwick. 25 Oct. 1716, Sarah. Mary. Ebenezer. Moses, and Patience. Mary m. John Rowel 14 July 1726.


Daniel and Hannah Wadlin had children baptized I June 1736, viz .. William. Daniel, Ebenezer and Sarah; also Mary bapt. 14 Nov. 1742, Elizabeth bapt. 12 Feb. 1744-5, Hannah bapt. 3 April 1750. and Daniel bapt. 1753.


The following, whose parentage is uncertain, were baptized 26 Oct. 1741. Moses, John, Abigail and Mary. Moses m. Patience Grant 13 July 1760. Their son Abraham, bapt. 17 Sept. 1760, was drowned 4 Sept. 1772, according to Tate. Mary Wadlin m. Timothy Ramsdel of York 30 Dec. 1761, and Elizabeth Wadlin m. Daniel Ramsdel of York 26 July 1764.

William Walker was defendant in a case in 1654. Edward Walker was one of the early settlers of York. His son Edward married. 6 Sept. 1710, Deliverance, dau of John Gaskin in Kit-

WARREN.


James Warren is said to have come from Berwick, Scotland. He settled in the Parish of Unity. July 15, 1656, there was lotted and laid out to him land on the south side of John Taylor's lot, "by the water side." His wife's name was Margaret, a native of Ireland. He died in 1702, and his wife in 1713. See their wills. Children :

MARGARET m. James Stackpole.


GRIZEL m. Richard Otis of Dover. She was his third wife. Captured by Indians in 1689: m. (2) in Canada 15 Oct. 1693 Philip Robitaile. Died at the age of 89 and was buried 27 Oct. 1750. Had five children in Can- ada, and two by first husband.
