The petition of Thomas Rogan, stating " that a certain James Bennet having been indicted for forgery, has absconded, and his bail thereby became liable to pay. to the Commonwealth the sums they are severally bound in; and praying leave to prosecute the said bail in the name of the Commonwealth, and that he may re- tain out of the monies that may be recovered from them, the sum of thirty-two pounds, being by estimation the loss which he has sustained by the fraudulent conduct of the said James Bennet," was read, and the prayer thereof granted.

In favor of Matthew Carey, & Co., for thirteen pounds seven shillings and six pence, for the Pennsylvania Herald, furnished to Council for six months, and for inserting advertisements.


In favor of Griffith Evans, for forty-five pounds seventeen shil- lings and six pence, and in favor of James Trimble, for forty-eight pounds fifteen shillings, in full of their accounts, filling up and compleating seven hundred and fifty-seven patents for donation lands, arranging the returns of survey, and recording the names and ranks upon the general draught.


The returns of the general election of Sheriffs and Coroners for the county of Bedford, was read and considered ; and thereupon,


Ordered, That Benjamin Elliott, Esquire, be appointed Sheriff, and Samuel Davidson, Coroner, of the said county of Bedford, and they were commissioned accordingly.

The fine imposed upon James Simpson, upon conviction of lar- ceny, in the city of Philadelphia, was remitted upon his entering sufficient security that he will depart the State forthwith, and not return.


Mr. Bartholomew, Collector of Excise for the city and county of Philadelphia, was directed to attend Council at 11 o'clock to- morrow, upon the delivery of the late seizure of three hogsheads of rum, the property of John Bond and Son. Messrs. Rush and Craig, Justices of the Peace, were also directed to attend at the same time.

Resolved, That the order of this Board of the 20th of last month be rescinded, that the Collector of Excise be directed to restore to the petitioners one moiety of the rum seized as aforesaid, and that the fine due from them to the Commonwealth be remitted.

Joseph Gengerick, Esquire, was appointed and commissionated a Justice of the Peace for the district of the county of Warwick, in the county of Lancaster, upon a return made according to law. Mr. Gingerick was also appointed and commissionated a Justice of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the county of Lancaster aforesaid.


An order was drawn upon the Treasurer in favor of Mr. Robert Aitken, for one hundred and sixty pounds one shilling and three pence, in full for printing public accounts, according to the Comp- troller General's report of the 16th instant.

. The fine of John Poorham, alias Casper Kerkler, confined in jail of this city, was remitted.
