Services were held Monday at 3 p.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mortuary for Benjamin F. Burton, 79, who died in Bakersfield November 22. Private interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The deceased was a native of Bakersfield and was last employed as a main- tenance man for the Edison Company. Curtis Cooley Mayes, 82, passed away November 25 at San Joaquin Hospital in Bakersfield.
Born September 10, 1897 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Mayes was a member of the Masonic order for 61 years. Masonic services were planned for him this week. Mayes was a past patrom of Fremont Court Order of Amaranth in the San Fernando Valley, He was also a member of Bakersfield Scottish Rite, and a member of the Kern River Valley Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband Grover of Lake Isabella, a daughter Sally of Lancaster, her mother Grace Finney of Nebraska, one brother, Clyde, and three grand- children.

Eve Elizabeth Guthrie passed away November 27 at Kern Valley Hospital. Mrs. Guthrie was a resident of Wofford Heights and co-owner of the Lakeview Rest Home. Funeral services were held Friday, November 30 at the Valley mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella. Reverend Donald Roulster officiated at the service and the interment service that followed at the Kern River Valley Cemetery. Mrs. Guthrie is survived by her husband Bertram; her sister Dorothy of Wofford Heights; brothers Ernie, Ercel, Paul and William; a daughter, Carleen and one grandson. Mrs. Guthrie was 66.

Born in Mallard, Iowa in 1914, Ridenous hved m Burbank and was employed by lockheed Aircraft for over 25 years. He has been a resident of the Kern River Valley for 11 years, residing in Kernville and South Lake Estales
He is survived by his wife Berry, of South Lake Estales; a son Kenneth Ridenour of Saogus; a daughter Lylene Sheets of Agoura and eight grandchildren. He is survived also by two sisters, Marie Minear and Mar- celle Robbins, both of Burbank; and a brother, Raymond Ridenour of Kan- sas.

Susan Schropp, 52, of Bodfish, died December 4 in Lake Isabella. Ser- vices were held December 7 at Green Hills Mortuary Chapel In San Pedro, California, and interment was in Green Hills Memorial Park.

Eve Elizabeth Guthrie passed away November 27 at Kern Valley Hospital. Born in Bardstown, Kentucky on December 2, 1912, Eve lived in Los Angeles and Oxnard and became a resident of Wofford Heights in August 1978. She was the Manager and co- owner of the Lake View Guest Home.
Funeral services were held Friday. November 30 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella followed by cremation. Reverend Donald Roulsten officiated at the service.

Born in Evansville, Indiana January 20, 1898. Mr. Straker was a valley resident for the past 18 years He is survived by his wife. Rita: one daughter. Mrs. Eloise Leavy: eight grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

Born July 27, 1963 in Ridgecrest Terri attended Bittsburg American High School in Germany and Kern Valley High School.
She is survived by her mother, Sandra Koenig; as sister, Deanna Lee, and a brother, Robert Jeffery, all of South Carolina; by her grand- mother Esther Hood of Wofford Heights and Betty Adams of Ridgecrest, her grandfather Billy Joe Martin of Ridgecrest, and her great grand- mother Thelma Beene of Ridgecrest, as well as many other relatives. Mary Alice (Toni) Thomson passed away December 20, 1979 and was buried at Green Lawn in Bakersfield Wednesday, December 26.
She was well-known in the valley as a member of the Moose Lodge, 55-plus club, Grandmothers Club and Bodfish- Lake Isabella Property Owners Association. She was 65 years old and had lived in Lake Isabella for six years.

RUTH P. MEYERS
Ruth P. Meyers, a resident of the Kern River Valley for 29 years, dled Friday, January 18 in Bakersfield.
Mrs. Meyers was born in Corinth, Mississippi March 20, 1905. She lived in Oklahoma for many years before moving to Kernville in 1951. She was the past owner of the Kern Korner store and of the Robins Cafe in Ker- nville, but was also well-known to many for her excellent cooking at many different restuarants in the Kern River Valley. Ruth was also a charter member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Kernville.
Two sons survive her, Joe and Jimmy Meyers, both of Kernville. There are five grandchildren, Doyle, Carrie, Joseph and Sherrianne Meyers of Kernville, and Greg Meyers of Northern California. She is also survived by three brothers, Ben Cooper of Oklahoma, Tom Cooper of Hemet, California, Jack Cooper of Chula Vista, and by three sisters, Lucille Friedman and Gladys Mayo, both of Oklahoma and Pauline Shelton of Riverside.
Rev. Ben Bills of the First Southern Baptist Church officiated at the ser- vices January 22.

VERA HICKS
Vera Hicks, 77 of Lake Isabella died January 6 at Kern Medical Center Bakersfield, California. She was born March 31, 1902 at Sheridan, Wyoming. Her survivors include two daughters Marjorie Hall of Goleta, California, June McCarter of Salome, Arizona. Grandaughter Judith Porter whom she' made her home with, three other grandchildren, five great grand- children and a sister.
WALTER D. RICE
Memorial services were held Saturday January 19, at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella for Walter D. Rice, 82, who died on January 16, in Kernville. Reverend Hugh W. Porter officiated. Mr. Rice was born on August 21, 1897 in Wright, Iowa. (Masahska County ) His parents moved to Sheldon, Missouri in 1902 and he recieved his education in a one room school house there. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and saviour at the age of 17. He was the Sunday school superin- tendant and served on the Board of Deacons of the Sheldon Baptist Church. He relocated in Los Angeles in 1936 and was active in the Sunnyside Bap- tist Church for 26 years. For the past 10 years he has resided in the Kern River Valley. He is survived by his wife Mary F. Rice of Wofford Heights and two sons Earl Howard Rice of Stanwood, Washington and Walter D. Rice of San Jose. Also 2 grandsons and 2 grandaughters. EUGENE E. MERCIER
Eugene E. Mercier, Lake Isabella resident passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 4, 1980, the appa- rent victim of a heart attack. He was 64 years of age. Born in Flint, Michigan on November 29, 1915, Gene was a veteran of WWII, having served in the European Theater with the U.S. Air Force from 1942 through 1945. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Gene's interest in aircraft continued during his civilian life, leading him to a careerin the aerospace industry. His Air Force experience provided him with the background to become a technical advisor to design engineers. His last aerospace position termi- nated with the phasing out of the B-1 Bomber program. Gene is survived by daughters Pamela, of Sacramento, and Lisa, of Fresno. A son Brad, recently dis- charged from the Navy where he served as an Airborne Paramedic, is presently attending college in : Virginia.
Other survivors are a sister and brother-in-law, Verna and Dave Lashmet of Wickenburg, Arizona, sister-in-law, Nita Mercier of Mt. Vernon, Washington, and neice, Mary Jane Kilburn, also of Mt. vernon; aunt and uncle Blanche and Eddie Cota of Burbank, California, and Nephew William Mercier of Los Vegas. Local family members include nephew Pat Mercier, his wife Judy and grand-neice Minzella Hutchins. Final arrangements are set for Friday, February 8, graveside at the Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights, at 10 a.m.

ACCIDENT
First Fatal Of Year Reported
What had at first appeared to be a relatively minor injury accident evolved into the first fatal collision of 1980 as Williamn Ova Ifelton, 63. of Lake Isabella died Saturday at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield following a traffic accident earlier that day.
Helton was riding a 1970 Honda 90
motorcycle eastbound on Alta Sierra Avenue when he was struck head-on by a pickup truck making a left turn from Claire Street to go westbound on Alta Sierra.
The pickup was driven by Douglas Lloyd Hanawalt, also of Lake Isabella. Hanawalt later told CHP of- ficers he had cut the corner and didn't
see Helton's motorcycle until after the collision. Helton refused to talk to of- ficers at the scene.
The original reports indicated that Helton had sustained lacerations and abrasions to both arms, hands, legs and head. He died in Bakersfield ap- parently due to internal bleeding from injuries sustained in the collision.

Gladys Sandifur
Gladys E. Sandifur, resident of Bod- fish, California, passed away on February 12,. 1980, in Duarte, Callfor- nia, at the City of Hope Hospital where she had been an out-patient for two years.
Miss Sandifur was born In Bloomington, Indiana July 1, 1906 and became a resident of California in 1911, residing primarily in the Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley areas. Miss Sandifur moved to Bod- fish in 1974.
Miss Sandifur was retired from ser- vice with the City of Los Angeles where she worked at the Main Library for a period of 43 years.
Miss Sandifur is survived by a brother, Cecil, of Havilah, sisters Ruth Sandifur of Bodfish, Florence Brooks of Bradbury, California, and Mae Klump of North Hollywood.
Internment was at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills.
Harris Tweedt
Harris M. Tweedt of Wofford Heights passed away February 16th in Bakersfield at Mercy Hospital. Mr. Tweedt was retired and lived at the Sportsman's Trailer Park.
He is preceeded in death by two brothers Wesley and Bernice and one sister Charlotte.
Mr. Tweedt is survived by a brother Harlan Tweedt of Oroville, two sons. Wayne of Carson and Dennis of San Diego; one daughter Kathryn Miller of Squirrel Valley and seven gran- dchildren.

Ray Payne
Ray Payne, 72 of Lake Isabella, passed away February 21st at the Kern Valley Hospital.
Born in Craig County, Oklahoma January 11, 1908: Mr. Payne is sur- vived by his wife Evelyn, a sister Arrowannah Prigmore of Oklahoma City and one brother Sam Payne of Oregon. Memorial services will be held March Ist at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Morgan of Squirrel Valley at 11 a.m. The Reverend Ben Bills, Pastor of The First Southern Baptist Church of Kernville will officiate.

Anna Gibson
Anna M. Gibson, a resident of Ker- nville since 1952, died February 24 at Northridge Hospital in Van Nuys, California. She was 79. Mrs. Gibson was born March 3, 1900 In Crete, Nebraska.
A rosary was sald February 27 and Mrs. Gibson was buried February 28 at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
She is survived by a son, Roy J. Salisbury, of Pacoima, California.

OBITUARY
LEON W. BUXTON
Leon W. "Buck" 69, of Bella Vista, passed away suddenly March 5. Mr. Buxton is survived by his wife, Virginia, three daughters, Audrey, Beverly and Carolyn of Bakersfield, seven Grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
Services were held March 8 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella. The officers of Moose Lodge 498 officiated.
Interment at Kern River Valley Cemetery,
Arthur Gruber
Arthur W. Gruber of Lake Isabella died March 12 at the Kern Valley Hospital.
He is survived by his daughter, Anita of Naperville, Illinois and a sister Charlotte of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Private cremation services were held in Bakersfield March $4; Mr. Gruber's ashes will be scattered on the family cemetery plot in Lincoln. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
William Robertson
William Frederick Robertson, of Lake Isabella, passed away February 3, 1980 at Methodist Hospital of Southern California in Arcadia, California.
He is survived by his wife. Marguerite Robertson of Lake Isabella, a niece, Carolyn Sherington of Savannah, Missouri, a nephew, Gerold Merriott of St. Joseph, Missouri, aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. E.H. Merriott of Pasadena, Califor- nia, a cousin, Greg Merriott of Pasadena, California and a brother- in-law, Clifford Merriott of St. Joseph, Missouri.
