He is survived by two sons, William of Santa Maria and Eugene of Santa Rosa; a daughter, Patricia Barker of Kernville; two sisters, Ruth and Eloise, both of Decatur, Texas; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Eugene McGee


Eugene L. McGee passed away May 29th at the Mercy Hospital in Bakers- field. There were no services.


He is survived by his wife Bernice of Wofford Heights, a son, Michael of Hermosa Beach, a daughter, Karen Sowers of Virginia, and a daughter, Susan Martin of Hermosa Beach, two grandsons, a brother and two sisters.


Virginia DeBord


Funeral services for Virginia Ruth DeBord, 53, of Mt. Mesa, were held last Monday at Valley Mortuary Chapel with Rev. James Hux officiat- ing. Burial was at Kern Valley Cemetery.


A resident of the valley for 112 years, she died on June 1.


A 25 year member of Eastern Star, she is survived by her husband Willis C. DeBord of their Mt. Mesa address; two sons, Bill and Larry; two daught- ers, Linda and Nancy; three brothers, Bob, Albert and Don; her mother, Eise and five grandchidren.


Norma Pearson


Services will be held this afternoon, Thursday, June 22, for Norma Deb- orah Pearson, 77, of Kernville.


A resident of the area for 10 years she was a retired owner of a bait & tackle shop in Paramount.


The graveside services at Kern River Valley Cemetery will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Hugh Power officlat- ing.


She is survived by a daughter, Virginia McGuire of Wofford Heights; a brother Bart Palmer of Clear Lake; a sister Theo Kroeger of Davis; seven grandchildren and five great grand- children.

Private services for Florence Leona Riley, 69, of Lake Isabella were held last week.


A resident of the area for five years, she is survived by her husband, Theodore, of Lake Isabella, and one sister, Betty Lou Casey of Kansas City, Missouri.

Two Die In Accident


The growing number of visitors to the valley this year is up by 12 percent, compared to last year.


So, obviously the rate of traffic has increased as the summer months progress.


To date, there has been 10 auto related fatalities, just in the last seven months, compared to 8 deaths for all of '77.


Just last week two more collisions were reported.


The first incident happened on July 13, 1978 (see photo) when Michael Sutcliffe of Wofford Heights was south bound on Burlando Road and Oscar Perez of Los Angeles had been stopped, then just started moving to pull off on the south side of the highway, when he was struck from the rear by Sutcliffe's 1960 Buick. There were no injuries reported.


The second incident was reported at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 1978, on Mt. 99, where Donald Rawson of Johnsondale and companion Donna McKinty of Kernville were traveling south bound at excessive speed and loss control on a Fight curve and slammed off the right side of the roadway overturning down a 70 foot orck inbankment into the Kern River, just 12 a mile north of Campground 3.


The couple were pinned in the '64 Plymouth for 112 hours, before CHP Officera could have them ruabed to Kern Valley Hospital by Bohn's Ambulance, there they were pro- nounced D.O.A., the cause of death was apparent drowning.


Burl Gibson


Services for Burl Gibson of Lawn- dale, Calif. were held last Monday at Kern Valley Cemetery with Pastor Mike Goodyear officiating.


Gibson, 41, was a drowning victim of the Kern River.


Employed by Dow Chemical he is survived by his wife Joyce Gibson; two sons, Darryl and James; a daughter Lora; and four brothers, John, Darvin, Bill and Mike; three sisters, Ellen, Carlas and Rodie; and his father, James.

Donna McKinty


Funeral services for Donna Louise McKinty, 20, of Johnsondale were held at the Kernville Methodist Church July 19.


Burial followed at Kern River Valley Cemetery.


A planner for American Forest Products, she died as a result of an auto accident July 14.


She is survived by her father, Cyril of Johnsondale; her mother Shirley Stubblefield of Kernville; a brother Cyril, Jr. of Wofford Heights; and two sisters, Beatrice of Johnsondale and Shirley of Louisiana.

George Liebel


Services for longtime Kern River Valley resident George Liebel, 73, of Bodfish were held ast Friday at Valley Mortuary Chapei.


Liebel was a retired fireman having worked for the Forest Service and the Kern County Fire Department. He was also a hard rock miner and was a veteran of World War II.


Services were officiated by Rev. Mike Goodyear with burial following at Kern River Valley Cemetery ..


He is survived by five brothers, Frank of Bodfish; Clem of Los Angeles; Ted of Bakersfield; Rudolph of Bakersfield and Phillip of Los Angeles. Also, four sisters, Mrs. Donald West of San Marcos; Mrs. Margaret Brassfield of Bakersfield; Mrs. Mary Edeal of New Mexico and Mrs. Caroline Houser of Onyx.

ACCIDENT


Two Persons Killed In Valley Accidents


Automobile related deaths reached 12 last weekend as accidents claimed the lives of a Wofford Heights resident and a Bakersfield man.


The first accident resulted in a coordination effort on the park of California Highway Patrol officer Jim Malouf and Kern County sheriff's deputies.


Last Friday morning fishermen reported seeing a car underway near Kern Valley Marina.


After investigation by officers on


the scene and the pulling of the car from the lake the body of David Wooden, 22, was found strapped in the ·vehicle.


Kern County Coroner pronounced Wooden DOA at the scene.


Malouf estimated that the accident occurred on July 16, the last known time Wooden was seen by anybody. The officer said apparently he was travelling at a high rate of speed, lost control, and plunged aver a curve just east of the Marina.


Fatality number 12 for the Kern River Valley so far this year was Dennis Harper, 22, of Bakersfield.


Last Sunday Harper slammed his car into a boulder on Highway 178, west of Borel Road. He and a passenger, Kim Anderson, also of Bakersfield, were transported to Kern Medical Center.


Harper was DOA while Anderson is listed as being in satisfactory con- dition.

Ernest McArthur


Funeral services for Ernest Clifton McArthur, 83, were held last Friday at Valley Mortuary Chapel.


A resident of Kernville for 14 years, he was a retired fabric dyer for Western Costumes, motion picture industry.


Services were officiated by Rev. Mike Goodyear with burial at Kern River Valley Cemetery.


McArthur is survived by his wife Marle of Kernville, a son Raymond, two daughters, Myrtle and Jeanle, and 13 grandchildren.

Allan MacEachern


Private services for Allan Duncan MacEachern, 62, of Bodfish were beld last Thursday at Valley Mortuary Chapel.


The service was officiated by Moose Lodge No. 498.


Mac Eachern, a resident of the valley for one year, is survived by his wife Jeanette, two sons, Bruce and Art, two daughters, Debbie and Joan and seven grandchildren.

Norman McLean


Services for Norman William McLean of Los. Angeles wac bydd recently at Valley Mortuary Chaper. McLean, 76, died July 22 at Kaiser Hospital in Hollywood.


Services were officiated by Pastor Stephen Nagier. Burial was at Kern River Valley Cemetery.


He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Shrinera, Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge.


McLean is aurvived by his wife Beulah, a son, Bill, a sister Gladys and two grandchildren, Diane and John.

Services were held last Monday for Ross Harry Shaw, 71, of Havilah who died July 27.


Officiating the services was Father J. Frederick Johnson. Burial followed at Kern River Valley Cemetery.


Shaw waa a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 827, Elks Lodge, CB Club and Founding Member of St. Peters Episcopal Church.


He is survived by his wife Altha, a brother, William, a slater Dorothy, a nephew Tom and a neice, Alice.

Graveside aervices for Kathleen Porter Roberts, 55, of Bodfish, were held last Monday at Kern River Valley cemetery.


She was a cook at Ewings-on-the Kern for more than 30 years and was a resident of the valley for eight years. Officiating the services was Pastor Stephen Nagler.


She is survived by her husband, Newland, of Bodfish; two sons, Leo and Rusaell; two daughters, Yvonne and Dianne; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Servicos toi Lauretta Baker Tuomi, 60, of Lake Isabella were held last Monday at Kern River Valley Ceme- tery. The services were officiated by Pastor Mike Goodyear.


A resident of the valley for two years she is survived by her husband Eugene, of Lake Isabella; y arson, Philip of Newhall; and two sisters, Doris Riddle of Montana and Elva Baker of Tustin.

Funeral services for Charles C. Cicotte, longtime resident of the Kern River Valley, were held last Friday at Valley Mortuary Chap- el.


Burial followed at the Kern River Valley Cemetery.


Cicotte, 75, was a veteran of WW II and was a member of Post 1937, Veterana of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his widow, Vesta of Lake Isabella and a sister, Lucille, who resides in Missouri.

Joe Loveall


Private services for Joe Loveall, 50 year resident of the Kern River Valley were held in Glendale.


Loveall, 71, died Sunday. He had worked for several ranches and the U.S. Forest Service.


He is survived by his wife Bernice and four sisters, Betty, Gay, Dorothy and Hallie.


Brandy Tate


Brandy Kathleen Tate, infant daughter of Kathleen and Jim Tate of Bakersfield, Grandaughter of Jerry and Dwight Pascoe of Lake Isabella. Services were held Monday, August 14, at the Hillcrest cemetary.


John Price


Services were held for John Bruce Price, 53, of South Carolina, August 12 at Kern River Valley Cemetery.


Officiating was Donald Roulsten, pastor, Highland Chapel Church.


A veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam, Price died August 6 at the U.S. Naval Medical Center, Charles- ton, South Carolina.


He is survived by his wife Marjorie, a daughter, Elizabeth, a son, Thomas, a daughter, Julla, parents Mr. and Mrs. John D. Price, three brothers, six sisters and a grandson.


Robert Marr


Services for Robert Bert Marr of Kernville were scheduled to be held at Valley Mortuary Chapel today, Thurs- day, August 31, beginning at 10 a.m.


Owner of Bob Marr Construction, he was a resident of the area for nine years. He died on August 28.


Officiating the service Is Reverend James O. Hux.


Burial will be at the Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth.


He is survived by his wife Betty of Kernville; three daughters, Joyce, Mary and Cathy; two brothers, Wil- Liam and Thomas; three sisters, Louise; Dorothy and Francis; his mother Mrs. Gertrude Marr and six grandchildren.

A retired supervisor for Thrifty Drugstore she is survived by her husband Marion Cox of Lake Isabella; a brother, Elmer of Missouri; a sister, Rose of Salinas; two nieces and one nephew.

Services were held last week for Jay Edward Koch, 69, of Southlake Estates.


A vigil was held last Friday night at Valley Mortuary Chapel and funeral services were held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church last Saturday.


Officiating was Father Frederick Johnson.


Burial was at the Kern River Valley Cemetery.


A veteran of World War II, he is survived by his wife Letty of their Southlake Estates home.


Josephine Hazlett


Services were conducted at Forest Lawn Covina Hills last week for Josephine D. Hazlett, 77, of Southlake Estates.


Officiating at the services was the American Legion.


A veteran of World War II, she serviced in the U.S. Army and was overseas for 30 months. She was first vice-commander of Post 261, Ampari- can Legion in El Monte.


She la survived by her husband, Edward of Southlake Estates; four sistars, Thelma, Linnie, Hope and Edna; and one brother, George.

Melvin Anderson


Funeral services for Melvin Jack Anderson were held on Monday, Sept. 4, 1978 at 11 a.m. and was laid to rest in Kern River Valley cemetery.


The 71 year old Wofford Heights resident was a technician for MGM studios for 35 years.


Survivors of Mr. Anderson are his wife Ellen, son Tom, daughter Allda Bush and his brothers Hilton and Kelth Anderson along with sister Shirley Dale.

Private services were held recently for Floyd Byron Wagner, 68, of Lake Isabella who died on Sept. 7 in Bakersfield.


A retired security guard for Hughes Aircraft, he was a resident of the valley for seven years.

Services were held last Monday for Mary Elizabeth Dyer of Onyx who died Sept. 13 in Chino.


Dyer, 59, was a housewife and had lived in the valley for six years.

A retired supervisor at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard, Grant was a resident of the valley for 18 years.


He is survived by his wife Cecelia of Wofford Heights; a son Wilbur of New York, a daughter Julla of Idaho, five grandchildren and one great-grand- child.

Private services for Argus Baker Perry, 46, a resident of the valley for 40 years, were held recently.


Perry resided in Weldon.

He had died on Sept. 19 at Marina Del Rey.


A retired salesman for Belltone Hearing Aids, he is survived by his wife Elsie of Lake Isabella; a son Kenneth of South Dakota; a daughter Carol Patterson of Lake Isabella; a alster, Irene of South Dakota; eight grandchildren and nine great-grand- children.

Margaret Alsop


Margaret C. Alsop, beloved wife of Edward M. Alsop for 37 years, died at her home in Wofford Heights on Sept. 28, after a long battle with cancer.


Nurse, wife, veteran, mother Mar- garet rated high in all these roles in her affectionate and compassionate manner. She had long years of service aa a Registered Nurse and in World War II served as an Army nurse. He was married while in the service on July 18, 1942.


In addition to her husband, Marga- ret is survived by a son, Richard E. Alsop of Bakersfield, and a daughter, Mrs. Alan Clark (Margaret E.) of San Dlego. There are three grandsons and a fourth grandchild on the way. Other close surviving relatives include four sistera and numerous nieces and nephews.


Margaret was born in Bozeman, Montana on May 24, 1906. She was the daughter of Jacob and Marle Carolus, prominent pioneers and wheat farm- ers of Montana.


Margaret was an active member of "Ladies Of The Elks" in Rosary was recited at St. Judes Church in Wofford Helghts on Sept. 29, and Mass was said Sept. 30, at St. Judes.


June Weghorst


Services were held last Tuesday at Kern River Valley Cemetery for June Pauline Weghorst, 52, of Lake Isabel- la. Officiating waa Pastor Stephen Nagler.


She died Oct. 1 after living in the valley for 12 years.


A cook for Dam Korner No. 1 for nine years, she la survived by her husband John of Kernville; & son John Carl Weghorst, III, of Lake Isabella; and three daughters, Trudi Williams, Tina Lowe and Linda Specht, all of Lake Isabella.


Also surviving is her mother, Mrs. Gertrude Hoffman of Burbank and one grandchild.

Coy Nigh


Private services for Coy Danie Nigh, 65, of Weldon, were held recently with arrangements made by Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.


A retired traffic manager, Nigh died Sept. 27.


He Is survived by his wife Mildred of Weldon's two sisters, Viola Lagau of Redondo Beach and Gladys DeMas- Lers of San Antonio.


Queenie Rojas


Graveside services were held Oct. 17 at old Kern River Valley Cemetery for Queenie Wilson Rojas, 87.


For the paat aix years she lived on Balboa Island with her daughter Dorothy Vairl. Previous to that she lived in the Kern River Valley for 20 years. She was the widow of the late Chief Rojas who died in 1963.


Officiating the service was Rever- end Mike Goodyear.


In addition to her daughter she is also survived by a sister, Clara, of Toronto, Canada, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were heid last Wednesday for Leonard Orval Hayes, 69, of Lake Isabella.


Services were held at Highland Chapel, Lake Isabella with Reverend James O. Hux officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.


Hayes died Oct. 13, in San Gabriel. An honorary member of the Moun- tain Air CB Club, call name "Dakota Slim," Hayes is survived by his wife Alice of Lake Isabella; three daught- era, Maryls Day, Mira Loma; Lenora May, Buena Park and Carol Edwards, Republic, Missouri; three sisters, Beagle Wilbur of Bell Gardens, Della Kneebone of South Dakota and Sada Benson of Iowa. Also aix grandchild- ren.


Sara Lewis


Services were held last Monday for Sara Jobes Lewis, 79, of Onyx who died Oct. 12.


Reverend Russell Menges officiated the services held at Live Oak Memor- lal Park Chapel.


She had resided in the Kern River Valley for the past three years, living with her daughter Allce Burkhart of Onyx.


Mrs. Lewis is survived by a son Ernest of Lucerne Valley, her daught- er Allce of Onyx, two brothers and two sisters, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services for Gilbert Peter Sabers, 61, of Lake Isabella were held recently.

A retired cabinet installer, Sabers is survived by his wife Lucille of Lake Isabella; a son Dennis of Long Beach; a daughter Denice of Columbia; flve brothers including Elmer Sabers of Lake Isabella; three sisters and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Satur- day at 11 a.m. at Highland Chapel, Lake Isabella, for Thomas Jay Hen- derson, 24, of Onyx.


Henderson died in Sylmar on Oct. 21.


He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Jay Henderson of Onyx; a brother, Scott Henderson of Bakers- field and a sister, Susie Henderson of Spain; and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Henderson.


Officiating the service will be Elder Joe Marshall.

A retired policeman for the Los Angeles Police Department, Wood was a valley resident for five years.


Services were held at Kernville Methodist Church with Paster Mike Goodyear officiating. Burial followed at Kern River Valley Cemetery.


He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Wofford Heights; a son George of Texas; two daughters, Loretta and Crystal; a half-brother Cyril and nine grandchildren.

Esther Lehman


Funeral services were held last Wednesday at Valley Mortuary Chap- el for Esther Elizabeth Lehman, 74, of . Lake Isabella.


Mrs. Lehman died November 13. Officiating the service was Rever- end Donald Rouisten with burial following at Kern River Valley Came- tery


The deceased was Past President of American Legion Lakes Auxiliary In Cambria, California and was a mam- ber of the Veterans of World War I Auxiliary, Lake Isabella as well as a member of the Ladies of the Moose Lodge, No. 498, Lake Isabella.


She is survived by . her husband Stuart of Lake Isabella; a son Donald Brown of Lake Isabella; three alsters, Ruth Rich and Jewel Nelr, both of Michigan, and Caroline Stenbit. Also one grandson, Donald Brown, III.

Harley Lane


Services were held last Monday for Harley Franklin Lane, 71, of Wofford Heights.


Lane, former owner of Shady Lane Saloon in Lake Isabella, died last Friday.


Services were held at the Kern Valley Cemetery with Reverend B.M. Calhoun and VFW Post No. 7665 officiating.


He was a member of the local VFW, member of Elks Club, Canoga Park, and a Veteran of World War I.


Lane is survived by his wife Emma of Wofford Heights; two sons, Harley of Los Alamos, New Mexico and David of Hawthorne; two brothers, Harry of Hermiston, Oregon and Gati of Goldendale, Washington; a sister, Leona of Tualatin, Oregon; four grandchildren and one great-grand- child.

Johne Carolton


Services for Johne Henry Carolton, 55, of Lake Isabella were held at Kern River Valley Cemetery last Thursday with the Reverend James O Hux officiating.


A veteran of World War II, Carolton died on November 4.


He is survived by a brother, George of Lake Isabella and three grandchild- ren.
