Gilbert Smith
Services were held Monday, Sept- ember 26 at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel for Gilbert C. Smith, 80 who died September 20 at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. Dennis Hinkey and Rulon .Scott of Church of the Latter Day Saints of Mt. Mesa officiated. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bakers- field.
Born in Redmond Utah, he lived in Kernville 17 years. He was a member of Kern Valley American Legion and was a veteran of World War I. He was retired from Standard Oil Co. in El Segundo.
He is survived by his widow, Dorothy; two sons, Jay Smith of El Segundo and Clifton Smith of Oregon; two daughters, Mary Kaikman of Minnesota and Darlene Brokaw of Laguna; two brothers, Merrill and Ferrill Smith of Utah; a sister, Edna McDonald of Utah; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Southlake Man Dies From Vehicle Blaze
The Southnake man who suffered second and third degree burns in a vehicle fire neas his home Saturday, September 10 died at University of California Medical Center in San Diego Sunday, September 25.
Walter Rigsby, de, remained in critical condition the two weeks he was hospitalized and was pronounced dead at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
Witnesses said Rigsby was trying to start his modified Chevrolet van that evening and primed the carbureator with gasoline. He had driven about 100 feet when fire officials said it appar- ently backfired through the carbure- ator and burst into flames.
Rigsby ran from the vehicle with his upper body engulfed in flames. Stacy Bundy, 12, and Jay Watson, 10, were playing in the area at the time and
witnessed the accident. They ran for help and Jay's father, Lee Watson, extinguished the flames on Rigsby. The van had rolled down the street and stopped in a vacant lot and with instructions from Watson, the child- ren gathered enough hoses to reach the blazing van. Watson then sprayed water on the van until the fire was out.
Rigsby was transported by Progres- sive Ambulance to Kern Valley Hospt- tal for emergency treatment and then to Kern Medical Center. Due to the severe burns on an estimated 30 percent of his body, he was taken to U. C. Med Center in San Diego by helicopter.
His death constitutes the eleventh highway fatality in Kern Valley this year.

'Fuji' McIntyre
Memorial services were conducted at Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, Monday, October 3, at 11 a.m. for Edward Ray (Fuji) Mclntyre, 59, who died in his Bodfish home September 29. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7665 officlated the service and cremation followed.
Fuji was a World War II veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Masons, Veterans of Foreign Wars, a 38-year member of the Elks Lodge, and a charter member of the local Moose Lodge. He wrote "Moose Noose" for the Kern Valley SUN and tended bar at the Carriage House for almost a year. He was born in Muncie, Indiana, October 25, 1917, residing 54 years in California, 41/2 of those locally.
He is survived by his widow, Harrlet V. Melntyre of Bodfish; his son, Jeffrey Kier Mcintyre of Sumner, Washington; his daughters, Cheryl Harrison of Auburn, Washington, and Melody Solis of Torrance; his brother, James David Mcintyre of Coalinga; his mother, Carolyn Mcintyre of Whittier; and five grandchildren.
Although flowers are appreciated, donations may be made to favorite charities in memory of Edward Ray Mcintyre.

Graveside services was held In Hillcrest Memorial Park Tuesday October 4 at 10:30 a.m. for Glenn A Young, 66, who died September 29. Rev. Kenneth Cragg, pastor from the Northminster Presbyterian Church officiated.
Young was born in Crookston, Minnesota and had resided in Kern County 24 years. He was a World War II Veteran.

Bob "Junior" Perry, 42, of Johnson- dale dies at Antelope Valley Hosptial in Lancaster, September 30. No service will be conducted.
Perry was born September 20, 1935, in Oklahoma. He was einployed as a inaintenance worker with American Forest Products in Johnsondale. He lived in California 38 years, but resided locally only 3 weeks.

Woodrow Wallace
Memorial service will be held Friday, October 14, 4 p.m. at Highland Chapel Methodist Church in Lake Isabella, for Woodrow W. Wallace, 62, long time superintendent of Kernville Union School District. Military grave- side services were conducted Tuesday, October 11, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside. He died Friday at lus home in Carlsbad. Rev. Oren Ice of Lake Isabella officiated the service.
Wallace was superintendent of KUSD 28 years before retiring in 1974. Woodrow W. Wallace Elementary School, Isabella, was named in his honor. After ieliring, Wallace moved to Carlsbad.
He served in World War II and was retired from the Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel

Services will be conducted at the Church of the Nazarene in Lake Isabella Saturday, October 15, 11 a.m. for Janice Gale Newman, 32, who died October 10 in Bakersfield. Paster Calhoon will officiate and interment will follow al Kern Valley Cemetery.
Janice was an active member of Kern Valley Sweet Adelines. She was born March 19, 1945 in Long Beach and lived in the area the past four years. She was a clerk for Kern County Assessor's office.

John Allen
Rosary was recited Sunday, Oct- ober 9, at Holy Cross Chapel in San Diego for John L. Allen, 81, who dled October 6, at Kern Valley Hospital. Services were conducted Monday, October 10, and interment followed at Holly Cross Cemetery.
Born September 28, 1896, in Bedford, Indiana, he lived in Lake Isabella for twenty-two years. He was in business in the San Diego area for twenty-three years before moving to the Valley. He was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a veteran of World War One.
He is survived by his widow, Myrtle Allen of Lake Isabella; three sisters, Agnes Martin, Lottie Pierce, and Mary Ann, all of Bedford, Indiana.

Graveside services were held at Kern Valley Cemetery Tuesday, October 11, for Clarence Patrick Escobar, 77, who died at Valley Convalescent Hospital October 8. Father Mark Renner officiated.
Born September 20, 1900, in Los Alamos, he was a native of California who resided in Kern County for the past 20 years. He was a retired sales manager.
He is survived by his brother, William E. Escobar of Long Beach and his sister, Katherine Howell of San Juan Capistrano.

Born in Los Angeles August 12, 1913, he worked as a carpenter and resided locally seven years.

Melvin Cody
Graveside services were conducted at Kern Valley Cementery Monday, October 17, for Melvin William Cody, 61, who died October 13 at Kern Valley Hospital.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, October 6, 1916, he had been a radio engineer at KMPC in Los Angeles. He was a resident of Wofford Heights the past eight years and had lived In Callfornia 43 years.
He is survived by his widow, Betty Cody of Granada Hills; his sons, William Leonard Cody, Robert Ernest Cody, and Richard Allin Cody, all of Los Angeles; and two grandchildren.

Ernest Rock
Private services were held for Ernest Rock, 84, who died September 27, at Lakeport. Born in England, he worked in the chinaware industry, and was a veteran of WWI, serving in the British Army. Bringing his family to the U.S. during the 1920's to settle in Burbank, he raised three daughters while employed as a landscape gardener.
In 1964, he retired to Kernville, where he pursued many cultural interests, painting, in various media, enjoying drama, literature and music, and was known for his beautiful Bonzal plants and classical prose recitations. Expressing his love of travel, at age 77, Rock made a two-month tour of Iceland, Europe and Britain. He was also a member of ! the Church of Christ, Scientist, in Wofford Heights.
Due to failing health, he has resided for the past three years near his daughter at Clear Lake. Remaining active in the arts, he won a first prize in oils at Lake County Fair.
Survivors include two daughters, Vera, of Los Angeles; Lorna Young, Kelseyville, and several grand- children and great-grandchildren.
O. S. Loomis
Services were held October 20 at the Episcopal church in Ontario, Oregon, for O. S. "Bud" Loomis who died October 14 in Parker, Arizona.
Loomis was a resident of the valley for fifteen years and owner of the Riverkern Drive-In for eleven years.
He is survived by his widow, Ermal Loomis of Oregon; his step-son, Lee Watson of Southlake; and his grand- children, Jay and Stephanie Watson, alsu of Southlake.
James Hanley
Graveside services were conducted at Kern Valley Cemetery Monday, October 31, for James Matthew Hanely, 88, who died at his home In Wofford Heights October 27. Kern River Valley Masons officiated.
Born in Spokane, Washington, on November 7, 1888, he lived in the area 14 years and spent 18 years in California. He had been a kennel operator and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Florence Smith
Services will be held at Belmont Memorial Park in Fresno Friday, November 11, for Florence Evangeline Smith, 71, who died Nov- ember 6 at Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa. Interment will follow.

Edwin Sexton
Dr. Edwin C. Sexton, 88, formerly of Camarillo, died Tuesday at a hospital In Prescott Arizona after a sudden Illness.
He was born July 15, 1889 in Aurora, Illinois and was a resident In Camarillo from 1960 until 1973, when he moved to Wofford Heights, ac- cording to a mortuary spokesman.
Dr. Sexton was a retired osteopath. He was a member of Camarillo Masonic Lodge 824 and CamarUlo United Methodist Church.
Surviving are wife Olive; brothers Etson Sexton, Prescott, Arizona, Walter, Denver, Colorado; sisters Kathleen Holder, Greenbank, Was ington and Doris, of Tucson, Arizona; and three grandchildren.
Services were held at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park Chapel, Camarillo, with Masonic Lodge 824 officiating.

Tina A. Thompson, formerly a resident of Rutherford, Tennessee; until 1929 and born in Kenton, Ten- nessee on July 2, 1886, passed away November 7 in Costa Mesa.
She had a stroke in 1962 and had been confined in a convalescent hos- pital since that time. Place of inter- ment was Pacific View Memorial Park in Newport Beach.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Baptist church. Officiant of the services was Pastor Robert Jacobs of Mesa Bible Chapel.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha F. Brindley of Kernville and Costa Mesa; nieces, Lettie Neeley, Lois Montgomery, Lucille Carroll; nephews, Edward Thompson and Shelby Arnold, all residents of Mis- souri and Tennessee.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Wed- nesday in the Mish Funeral Home. Oildale, for Mary Eva Davis, 91, of 2901 South H Street, a former resident of Kernville, who died Nov. 21, in a Bakersfield convalarium after a long illness. Brother Williard Vanfossen of the Church of Christ officiated. Pri- vate interment followed in Kern Val- ley Cemetery at Kernville.
She was a native of Texas and has lived in Kern County for the past 30 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Kernville, She was initiated into the Rebeccas in 1933 in Texas and transfered her member- ship to the Kernville Rebeccas and had participated actively in this club for over 50 years. She was the owner and operator of the Kernville Tele- phone Company until it was sold in 1941, now the Continental Telephone Co. She was an extra in film making for a number of years when movies were made in the Kernville area. She is survived by two sons, Lloyd Bartee of Boyce Hot Springs, and John R. Osenbaugh of Oxnard. Two daughters, Vera L. Kocks of Dallas, Tex; and Lolam M. Ellis of Kernville. A sister Pearl Davis of Lufkins, Tex; also 13 grandchildren, 23 great grand- children and 1 great great grandchild.

OBITUARY
Steven Hylton
Services were held in the Green- lawn Memorial Chapel at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday Nov. 30 for Steven Dwayne Hylton, 29, Bakersfield, who died November 27. The Rev. Dan Cummins officiated and intermsat followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Hylton, who resided in Kern County all his life, worked four years as a backhoe operator. He was a member of Bakersfield Off Roaders and Oper- ating Engineers Union Local 12.
Survivors include his wife, Elisa; 2 sons, Steven and David; his father, Norman Hylton of Kernville; his mother, Dorladeane Sabian of Haw. all; a brother, Clay Walker of Kern- ville; 3 sisters, Shanda Hylton of Hawall, Kellee and Erin Hylton of Kernville; and grandparents Fred and Bernice Hassman of Bakersfield.
Pallbearers were Leonard Fitze, Bryan Hylton, John Hylton, David Brassfield, Tom Powell and David Taylor.

Graveside services were held at Kern Valley Cemetery Tuesday, Nov- ember 29, for Mavourneen Tilton, 43, who died at the Rulon Scott Ranch in Keyesville November 24. Vern Nelson of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints officiated the service.
