Mystery Surrounds Death
John Monahan, 22, of Lake Isabella died last weekend after an apparent "drunken altercation," according to the Kern County Sheriff's Depart- ment. Deputies responded to a call of a possible assault with a deadly weapon at around 7:40 a.m., Sunday and found Monahan lying dead outside of the 3800 Oak Meadow residence in which he rented a room. His body was partially covered by a mattress.
There was blood on Monohan's face and head, the home's sliding glass door was broken, and the inside of the house was a shambles.
Jerry Goodwin, owner of the home, and his girlfriend Janet Koop, both of whom live at the residence, spent the night at a friends house. They reportedly discovered the body when they returned home at around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
Deputies say that Monahan was either thrown or fell off the home's balcony and suffered head injuries. Drunkeness and exposure are possible factors in the death, but actual cause of death is as yet undetermined, pending completion of an autopsy.
