Memorial services were held yes- terday, June 29, at Jehova Witness Kingdom Hall, Lake Isabella, for Lorne Milton Callahan, 69, who died at Kern Valley Hospital June 24. Crema- tion has been conducted. Interment followed at Kern Valley Cemetery.


Born October 19, 1907, he lived in Kern County 15 years and was a native of California.

He was born June 12, 1909 in Christie, Oklahoma, and joined Inde- pendent Order of Oddfellows in 1939, No. 482 in South Gate and Rebekah Lodge No. 399, Southgate. He was District Grand Master for two terms; District Deputy Grand Patriarch; retired Captain Canton, San Pedro No. 14; Past Grand Guardian of Grand Lodge, Southeast encampment No. 124, San Pedro Canton No. 14 and A.M.O.S. Comus No. 216. He was past District Deputy in Los Angeles County IOOF; associate member of Kernville Lodge No. 251; associate member of Kernville Rebekah Lodge No. 365; and received Grnd Decoration of Chivalry of IOOF in 1971.

Private cremation was conducted for Genevieve Marion Gentzsch, 55, who died at Kern Valley Hospital July 11. She was born in New York, January 17, 1922, and lived in the valley two years.


She is survived by her husband, Gustav Gentzsch, Wofford Heights, two sons, Charles Edward Gentzsch, Redondo Beach, and Gustav Gen- tzsch, Torrance; her daughter, Joan Puls, Redondo Beach; and one grand- child.

Sterling Robinson


Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 5 in Doughty-Calhoun- O'Meara Mortuary for Sterling Sidney Robinson, 74, Bakersfield, who died July 2 in Lake Isabella. Rev. Fred Reichert officiated.


Robinson was a native of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, and had lived in .Kern County 60 years. He was last em- ployed as a mechanic for Oakley and Riley Horn Sawmill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Bakersfield American Legion Post 26.

She is survived by her parents, her sister, Jennifer, Ann, grandparents, Robert and Margaret Reeder, Joshua Tree, and Nick and Fern Kekas, Newbury Park.

Graveside services were held Fri- day, July 8 in the Kern Valley District Cemetery at Wofford Heights for Robert Theodore Beene, 32, 718 Eye Street, Bakersfield, who died July 8 in Bakersfield hospital. Tom Mc- Kinney, administrator for the Kern Valley DeMolay officiated.


Beene was a native of San Bernar- dino and had lived in Kern County all his life. He was a self-employed watch maker and jeweler, and owned and operated Trinkets Inc. He was a graduate of Burroughs High, Ridge- crest, in the class of 1961. He was a member of the DeMolays of Ridge- crest.


Survivors include his father, Theo- dore E. Beene of Ridgecrest; mother, Esther Lynn Hood, Ridgecrest; two daughters, Teri Lynn, Ridgecrest and Deanna Beene, Germany; a brother, Michael L. Beene, Sunny Valley, Oregon; and his grandmother, Thelma Mae Beene. Mish Funeral Home, Oildale.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, July 18, at Kern Valley Cemetery for Lloyd George Lewis, 68, who died July 15 at his home in Bodfish.


Born In Porterville June 29, 1909, he was a truck driver for a petroleum company for 20 years. He lived in Kern County 40 years and was a native of California.


He is survived by his widow, Elcean Lewis, Bodfish; his step-son, Thomas Wilson, Bakersfield; 3 daughters, Wanda Scott, Bakersfield; Judi Bow- ling, La Paloma, Sandy Lewis, Call- fornia; 2 step-daughters, Alice Donell, Bakersfield; Gale Blair, Oklahoma; his sister, Dorothy Hernandez, Por- terville; 10 grandchildren and 4 nieces.

Ralph Johonnot, Sr.


Private services will be conducted for Ralph Helm Johonnot, Sr., 59, who died at Mono General Hospital in Bridgeport during a camping trip Sunday, July 24. Cremation will be conducted following the service and his ashes will be scattered over Kern Plateau.


He was a native of California, born in Pasadena October 3, 1917. He was executive director and past president of California State Electronics Asso- ciation before moving to the valley and a member of Wofford Heights Improvement Group and on board of directors of Oak Knoll Mutual Water Company.


The Johonnots have been perma- nent residents of the valley for the past six years, but were legal resi- dents and voted in Kern County elections three years prior to that time.


He is survived by his widow, Angela G. Johonnot of Wofford Heights; his son, Ralph Helm Johonnot, Jr., Lake Isabella; and his daughter, Kathleen Schwemer, Edwards.

Winifred Downey


Graveside services were conducted at Kern Valley Cemetery Monday, August 1, Ior Winifred Irene Downey, 56, who died July 29 at Ridgecrest Community Hospital. Pastor Hugh Power officiated and Women of the Moose took part in the service.


Born in Big Beaver, Michigan, October 14, 1920, she was a 1938 graduate of Traverse City High School, Michigan. She married Ensign Curtis L. "Tex" Downey November 15, 1942 and lived In California five years on two tours of duty and another five years after Commander Downey's retirement. She moved to the valley in 1964, settling on Greenhorn Mountain in 14.15.


She is survived by her widower, "l'ex" Downey, Greenhorn; her step-son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Marlene Downey of Huntington Beach; her brother, Jesse I .. Cleland of Traverse City, Michigan; two aunts and a nephew in Michigan; a nephew in Wisconsin; and five grandchildren.

Thomas Lee


Thomas Jay Lee, 71, died August 1 in Bodfish. Cremation has been conducted and ashes will be scattered at sea.


He was born in Texas, December 20, 1905, and was a 30-year military vetern. He spent the past 10 years in Bodfish and 20 years in California.


He is survived by his nephew, Bryant Lee of Fort Worth, Texas, and his niece, Doris Ebark of Noble, Louisiana.

Services will be held tomorrow, August 12, at Rose Hills Memorial Chapel in Whittier for Bernice Ruth Frey, 63, who died August 8 in Arcata. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Cemetery.


Born in Kansas December 22, 1913, she spent about ten years as a resident of Lake Isabella and lived in the atate for forty years.


She is survived by her widower, Cletus Frey, of Lake Isabella; her daughter, La Quinn Julius, Cerritos; her sister in Kansas and three grand- daughters.

Paul Medland


Funeral Mass for Paul A. Medland, 63, who died July 30 In Boswell Memorial Hospital, Sun City, Arizona, was conducted August 5 in St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church. Burial was held in Sunland.Memorial Park.


Mr. Medland was born in Logans- port, Indiana, and moved to Sun City from Arlington, Texas. He worked for 42 years as flight administrator for American Airlines in Dallas - Fort Worth, retiring this year.


He was a graduate of the University of Detroit and a member of St. Clement's church and the church men's club and Knights of Columbus.


Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; two sons, Michael of Madison, Wiscon- sin, and Brlan of Kernville; two daughters Denlse of Arlington, Texas, and Sister Mary Paul (Carol) of Dayton; two brothers and a sister out of state, and four grand-children.

The deceased was born in Kelso Valley and had resided in Kern County all her life. The town of Weldon was named after her father, John Weldon

Whitson was a native of Sedalia, Missouri and lived in Lake Isabella for over 10 years. He was a Veteran of WWII and was a self-employed cob- bler man for 51 years.


He is survived by 2 brothers, Charles and Paul both of Lake Isa- bella; and 2 sisters; Loretta Whitson of Lake Isabella and Barbara Rizzo of Alhambra


John Thomas


Services for John Thomas, 76, of 2204 Commercial Street, Lake Isa- bella, will be held today, Thursday, August 18, 1977, at Kern Valley Cemetery.


Mr. Thomas died Monday in Bak- ersfield.


He was born in Kansas on May 28, 1901 and was a resident of Kern County for over 40 years. He is a World War I veteran.


Survivors include his widow Flor- ence of the Lake Isabella address, a daughter Helen in Medford, Oregon, two grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

Services were held at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Wofford Helghts Tuesday, August 23, 9 a.m. for Isabel Mary O'Keefe, 84, who died In Bakers- field August 19. Interment followed at Kern Valley Cemetery and Father Mark Renner officiated.


Born in Kentucky Octuber 21, 1892, she is survived by her widower, Gordan O'Keefe; and two sisters, Nell Oslage of Indiana and Willoghby Houser of Lake Isabella. She lived in Kern County 10 years, with 35 years in the state.

Charles Clarence DeLong, 55, of Lake Isabella died August 16. No service is scheduled, cremation will be conducted.


Born July 30, 1922 in Oklahoma, he lived in California 30 years, 4 of those in Kern County. He was a truck driver with Lloyd Byron Steel Company for 25 years. He is survived by his widow, Vivian DeLong of Lake Isabella.

Born in Lennox, South Dakota, he last resided in Kernville. He was a franchised Arco service station opera- tor and a member of Elks Lodge. He lived in the state 40 years, 13 of those In Kern County.

Born in Arizona December 26, 1918. she was a housewife who lived in Kern County 10 years and in California 30 years.


She is survived by her widower, David Townsend; two sons, David Townsend of Norwalk and Edward Kissel; two daughters, Diane Muns of Hollywood and Shirley Waterbury of Michigan; and a brother, Wayne Juddleston, Garden Grove.

Tyrone Sullins


Services were held yesterday, Sept- ember 14, at Union Cemetery in Bakersfield for Tyrone Sullins, 10, who died at his home in Kernville September 10. Mr. Melvin Hedrick officiated the service.


He was a student at Kernville Elementary School and is survived by his mother, Vana Julian of Kernville, and his father, Richard Sullins.

Harry Summers


Services were held at Valley Mort- uary Chapel Monday, September 12, at 2 p.m. for Harry Lec Summers, 69, who died September 7 in Englewood, Colorado. Rev. C.B. Wallace offi- ciated and interment followed a Little Lake Cemetery District in Norwalk.


Born in Missouri, he was a retired pipefitter with the Plumbing, Heating, and Pipe Industry and resided in Denver, Colorado. He is survived by his brother, Lloyd Summers of Denver .

Gladys Kender


Services were held at Valley Mort- uary Chapel, Lake Isabella Wednes- day, September 14 at 11 a.in. for Gladys Mae Kender, 48, who died September 10 at Kern Valley Hospital. Pastor Don Roulsten officiated and interment followed at Kern Valley Cemetery.


Born in Bell, California, she spent her entire life in the state, 342 of those years in Kern County. She was the owner of Bait Masters in Weldon.


She is survived by her daughters, Karell Taylor of Lynwood, Leean Anderson of Valencia; her brothers, Sanford Remine of Bell, Gerald Kemine of Lakewood; and her very dear friend and associate Rachel Rowlett of Mt. Mesa.

James Robertson


Services were held at Valley Mort- uary Chapel, Lake Isabella, Monday, September 12 at 10 a.in. for James David Robertson who died September 9 at Kern Valley Hospital in Mt. Mesa. Elks Lodge No. 2358 and Pastor Mike Goodyear officiated the service.


He was born in Leverney, Arkansas, and was a retired custodian at Palos Verdes School District. He lived in Kern County 212 years and spent 18 years in the state. He last resided in Lake Isabella. He was a member of Elks, Foresters, REACT, and Disabled Americans Veterans.


He is survived by his widow, Frances Robertson; five sons, James Robertson of Lakewood, Jerry Robertson of Manteca, Rick Robertson of Lomita, Joe Robertson of Riverside, David Robertson of San Diego; two daughters, Julia Siratt of Carson, Dianh Stille of Hawaiian Gardens; and nine grandchildren.


The family has requested that donations may be made to the Kern Valley Hospital Memorial Fund for cardiac equipment, in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

OBITUARY


George Rice


Graveside service was conduc Friday, September 10, at 1 p.m. . George Basil Rice, 81, who die September 12 at Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa. Pastor Mike Goodyear and Kern Valley Masonic Lodge officiated the service.


Born February 23, 1896, in Gilmore City, Iowa, he was the county treas- urer for Buena Vista County. He lived in the state and Kern County for thirteen years and his last place of residence was the Sierra Traller Lodge. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion (57 years), Masonic Lodge, World War One Veterans, and the Historical Society.
