REPORT OF OVERSEERS OF THE POOR.

The Overseers of the Poor submit the following report for the year ending March 1, 1888 : -

There was appropriated at the last annual meeting, for this purpose, what the Overseers thought was a sufficient sum for the year, but the amount expended has exceeded by a small sum our estimate. Our aim in all cases has been to give needful and reasonable aid without encouraging a spirit of pauperism. The almshouse and its many inmates is still under the supervision of Calvin Sanford and wife, of whom we can offer no greater praise than we find in the last report of the "State Board of Charity," who speak of it as among the first in the state for neatness, good order, proper care of its inmates, and general discipline.
