To the Citizens of the Town of Andover:

I herewith present my report on Highways and Bridges.

Began work on the Highways March 28th by graveling Reser- voir street, from George Cheever's to Holt street. Graveled Hidden Road from H. B. Lewis's to Allen Hinton's, graveled Gardner avenue, Gould Road, Woburn street, opposite the cem- etery, Poor and Corbett streets, from the Henry Bell place to the top of the hill on Corbett street, graveled Andover street, opposite Batchelder's coal shed, Haggetts Pond Road, beginning at the Railroad to Wood Hill Road, from the Tewksbury line at George Bennett's to Brown street, Webster street almost the en- tire length, Cuba street hill, graveled Ballardvale Road across the Plains, widened Walnut avenue near High street, put in two catch basins and paved the gutter to Walcott avenue, graveled Brook street, part of Lewis street and Burnham Road from top of hill to the R. R. bridge, Morton street from Bartlett street to Patrick Dwane's, made repairs on Shawsheen Road, Brown street, Wood Hill Road, River Road, Rattlesnake Hill Road, Holt street, Sunset Rock Road, Lowell street, Chandler Road, put in a catch basin at Crowley's store, piped to Rogers Brook, raised the sidewalk, reset the curb stone, put in two hitching posts, relaid the brick sidewalk, paved the gutter and resurfaced the street on that side, from Brown's store to Memorial Hall.

We widened the street between the late Warren Tuck's and the Cutler place by building a retaining wall and grading at a cost of $170, Mr. William M. Wood spending the same amount on the Highway without charge to the town.

Relaid the wall and extended Upland Road to meet Pine street, according to plans presented at last Town meeting. Built fence from Walnut avenue to Carmel Woods, 1000 feet, built fence on Shawsheen Road and Stevens street, 300 feet, repaired fence on both sides of Ward's Hill in West Andover, relaid the retain-

ing wall on Shawsheen Road, at Peter D. Smith's field to the culvert, replanked the river bridge near J. J. Abbott's, built a catch basin on Morton street and one on Summer street, paved the gutter on Summer street in front of Charles B. Baldwin's house.

Built concrete walks across Central street at the Episcopal church, across Punchard driveway, on Essex street at Smith & Manning's store, concrete walk on North Main street from the Lowe house to John McCarthy's house, also from the Musgrove building up Elm street across Summer street, repaired concrete from L. H. Eames' to Flint Court, extended concrete to curb stone on Essex street, repaired concrete on Maple avenue, Main street and Essex street.

Built sidewalk on Bartlett street from Morton street, past Mr. Mellidge's place, also on Lowell street from Edward Burtt's to Richard Ward's driveway, put in catch basin at Hugh Mal- colm's and grate in culvert at George Ward's, graveled sidewalks on Abbott street from Phillips street to Abbot Academy and Cen- tral street hill, repaired sidewalks on Summer street, Shawsheen Road and Washington avenue.

Built vitrified brick sidewalk from J. E. Whiting's to J. P. Wakefield's which included three catch basins and four grates, widened and paved the gutter and graded School street at the junction with Main.

Macadamized Bartlett street, 921 feet, 21 feet wide; Salem street, 497 feet, 16 feet wide; Reservoir street 763 feet; Porter Road 414 feet; Hidden Road 1320 feet; Chestnut street 100 feet ; River Road, 2320 feet. Bartlett, Salem, Chestnut streets and Hidden Roads were cut from five to ten inches to grade.

We now have from 350 to 400 tons of stone to crush at the plant on the River Road and 150 tons crushed stone on Summer street ready for use. Used the Road machine thirty days in different parts of the town. Raked stone throughout the town. Cleaned the gutters spring and fall. Made other necessary re- pairs.

Streets in the Vale have been kept in good repair under the
