"THE CROSS OF GRAY"
Dedicated to the late Frederick W. Hilton
'Mid Weymouth High's soft lawns and pines A cross of fairest gray Stands sentry o'er the youthful lines That pass him day by day. He teaches in his gentle way That spirit cannot die! "Pro Patria!" we hear him say, "Means love for Weymouth High!"
Staunch stands the watch of Weymouth High And gives for our brave dead These simple passwords to the hill Where Weymouth's men are bred. We love thee! Alma Mater! Oh let the years roll by! Our song we raise! Loud rings the praise! Of grand old Weymouth High!

THE COST OF OUR SCHOOL BUILDING PROGRAM
For the construction of two new junior high schools, six new elementary schools, the addition to the Bicknell Junior High School and six additions to elementary schools, fifteen projects in all, the cost has been as follows:
Bonds Issued to Date 1948-1956 $7,443,000
Appropriations for Land, Plans, and Construction from the Excess and Deficiency Fund 1948-1957
694,685
Bonds Authorized to be Sold in 1957 (Shaw School)
500,000
Total Cost of Fifteen Projects $8,637,685
Estimate for Bond Issues in 1958 for the schools and additions now being planned: Green Street, Center, Homestead addition and Pond addition 1,220,000
Estimated Cost of School Building Program through 1958 $9,857,685 By the end of 1957, $1,953,000 of the school bonds issued since 1943. the year our postwar school building program began, will have been paid for.
In the fourteen-year period 1957-1970, Weymouth will receive ap- proximately $2,140,000 in school construction grants from the State in reimbursement for the nineteen junior high school and elementary school projects, or an average of $153,000 per year.
The net cost to the Town of Weymouth for 1957 of $385,894 took $3.44 of our $50 tax rate. The estimated tax rate needed in the peak years for cost, 1959 and 1960, will depend on the assessed valuations for those years. Assuming a small increase in the assessed valuation of the Town each year, the portion of the tax rate needed for this school construction should not exceed $3.90 in the budget. In 1964, the peak year of costs for the high school bond issues, the portion of the tax rate for the nineteen elementary and junior high projects would be down to approximately $3.20.
THE COST OF HIGH SCHOOL AND SOUTH JUNIOR HIGH ADDITION BONDS
COMPUTED ON AN ANNUAL BASIS
The following table of annual costs of financing the proposed high school and junior high school bonds is based on the following assumptions and estimates: (1) first bond issue for North High and Vocational School in 1959 for $2,500,000; (2) second bond issue for above schools in 1960 for $2,500,000; (3) bond issue for addition to South Junior High School in 1961 for $640,000; (4) first bond issue for South High School in 1962 for $1,500,000; (5) second bond issue for South High School in 1963 for $1,400,000; and (6) bond issue for South High School addition in 1966 for $800,000.
Interest rates were computed in all cases at 3.5 per cent. The State reimbursement for the North High School was based on an estimate of 38 per cent and the South Junior High addition and the South High School on an estimate of 40 per cent.
It will be noted that the highest annual costs will come in the ten- year period from 1963 through 1972. Assuming that the assessed valuation of the Town by 1964 will be 125 million, the resulting tax rate to pay the annual cost of $524,000 would be about $4.20. The tax rate for the payment of bonds and interest would be less than this amount each succeeding year.
The following table shows the estimated annual cost of principal and interest payments on elementary and junior high bond issues, 1948-1958.
