OVERSEERS' REPORT.

The Overseers of the Poor submit the following Report of their doings for the municipal year ending March 6, 1871 :-

On the 7th day of March, 1870, the following named persons were receiving a full support at the Asylum, to wit --:

Oliver B. Everett, Elijah Penniman and Angenette Williams Besides these, Benjamin Wheelock has received assistance to the . amount of $ 63.63, exclusive of rent. Seth Hastings has re- ceived assistance to the amount of $26.59. Whipple Allen and family, in Milford, have been assisted to the amount of $73.00.

March 11th, Charles A. Hammond applied for assistance for Ella May Sprague, an illegitimate daughter of his wife, which was rendered at different times till May 30th, to the amount of $ 11.00, and the town of Sutton, the place of legal settlement of said child, duly notified.

March 28th, the Overseers contracted with Richard Carter to take charge of the Asylum. and manage the farm for one year from the first day of April ensuing. for the sum of $ 360; for further particulars see contract on file.

March 30th, the family of Dexter Inman became chargeable in Foxboro,' and were assisted to a small amount. About the first of September they again became chargeable. Their assist- ance during the year has amounted to $ 17.50.

May 1st, James M. Staples applied for assistance for Angenette Gordon and child. Angenette, the mother, being sick in his house ; and bills were paid for their assistance to the amount of $35.75; and the town of Blackstone, their place of legal settlement, duly notified.

16

July 11th. Augenette Williams died this day at the Asylum. aged 56 years, and was buried in Bellingham, by the side of her parents.

January 2d, 1871, Sarah E. Daggitt became chargeable in Milford : she having a legal settlement in this town, her bill for relief, amounting to $ 6.92, was paid, and she left for parts un- known, with her mother.

We likewise received a notice from the town of Wendell, bearing the above date, stating that William Harvey and family. were chargeable in that town, and alleging that their place of legal settlement was in this town, which fact, however, they have thus far failed to show, and their bill, amounting to $ 26.28, has, consequently, not been paid.

January 6th, Patrick Mahon applied to this Board for assist- ance. Said Mahon was a State pauper, but being unable to be moved, in consequence of severe sickness, we furnished assist- ance till the 20th instant, when he died, and bills paid for his relief and burial, amounting to $ 32.00, sent to State Board of Charities, which Board was notified of his condition under date of January 6th.

January 9th, Daniel Harrington applied for assistance for himself and family, which was granted, and has been continued up to the present time, to the amount of $ 46.22, including funeral expenses of his daughter in September last.

The oxen bought for work on the highway for the year 1869. and mentioned in Report of last year, remained at the Asylum till April 4, 1870, making a total of 19 weeks.
