Contract with Lyman Darling.
It is agreed by Lyman Darling, of Blackstone, and the Over- seers of the Poor of the town of Mendon, as follows, viz :
The said Lyman Darling, his wife and two daughters, have agreed to take charge of the Asylum for the Poor of said town. The said Darling is to furnish their beds and bedding for them- selves ; the said Darling is to do all work in said house at his own expense, nursing the sick, and taking good care of all the poor that may be there at any and all times ; dairying, and all things appertaining to farm, housekeeping, etc., to be done, and house kept in good condition at all times : and the said Darling further agrees that he will work upon the farm, managing all things in a good husbandlike manner, always exercising his best skill and judgment, but shall always follow the directions of the Overseers when they think proper to direct. If the Overseers direct, the said Darling shall work off of said farm for the benefit of the in- habitants of the town. And the said Darling promises faithfully, honestly and diligently to give and devote to the inhabitants of the town of Mendon the time and labor of himself and family as above specified, for the space of one year, from the first day of April, A. D. 1859.
In consideration whereof, the Overseers of the Poor for the inhabitants of the town of Mendon, agree to allow and pay to the said Lyman Darling the sum of two hundred and sixty-two dollars and fifty cents, and board for the four persons during the term above specified, the payments to be made quarterly ; but if the said Lyman Darling or either of his family shall fall sick or be absent from the Asylum of the said town of Mendon, then such absent time shall be deducted, allowed for, and made up to the inhabitants of the town of Mendon.

REPORTS OF COMMITTEES.
The committee chosen May 9, 1859, to settle with Enoch Thayer, for boarding his maid at the Asylum, submit the follow- ing Report :-
That a meeting was appointed at which Mr. Thayer and the Overseers of the Poor of 1858 were present. Upon an exami- nation the Committee were satisfied that the contract with Mr. Thayer, as stated by the Overseers of the Poor, was a legal contract, and that, according to the terms of that contract, Mr. Thayer was held to pay for the board of the person charged by the Overseers of the Poor. As to the number of weeks charged by the Overseers, there was some uncertainty. Mr. Thayer not being able or not disposed, did not fix upon a certain time, and although the Overseers knew the time she came and about the time she left, still they could not say whether she had remained at the house all the intervening time. Had she done so, the sum of $24 00, as charged by the Overseers for her board, would have been right. As it was, the Committee unanimously agreed to make Mr. Thayer an offer to settle the claim against him for $15 00.
After consultation with friends, Mr. Thayer concluded to ac- cept the offer made, and passed receipts to that effect with the present Overseers of the Poor.
All of which is respectfully submitted,
JNO. GEO. METCALF, for the Committee. MENDON, Nov. 1, 1859.
