FRED E. SAULMER, woodsman, was b in Presque Isle July 31, 1908, the s of John and Mantha Stackhouse Saulmer. Oct. 25, 1933 he m Miss Gladys Preble, who was b to Clay- ton T. and Nellie Ritchie Preble in Dover-Foxcroft Apr. 8, 1913. Both attended the Dover-Foxcroft public schools. They had one child that died in infancy.
JAMES ARCHIBALD SAUNDERS, chief engineer at the Stow- ell-MacGregor spool factory, was b in Amesbury, Mass., Apr. 23, 1903, the s of Herbert Carleton Saunders and Eliza Rose Saunders. On Aug. 16, 1941 he m Mrs. Victoria (Babin) Robbins, the widow of the late Alexis Ober Rob- bins, who died July 18, 1938. Mr. Robbins was a success- ful hotel proprietor for some years, but in his latter years conducted a coal and wood business, and his widow has continued the business ever since. Mrs. Smith has been Deputy of the Maine State Grange for 16 years. She is one of the very first in the State to receive a certificate as an outstanding home- maker.
FRANK L. SMITH, general manager of the local mills of the American Woolen Co., was b in Dover, N. H., Apr. 19, 1897, the s of Nicholas and Katherine Maloney Smith. He m Miss Eva Higgins, the d of Linwood F. and Eva Yeaton Higgins and b in Brewer Feb. 7, 1900, and a g from Fox- croft Academy. (She was better known as Eva Dunham, because her mother died when she was a baby and she was brought up by Mr. and Mrs. Eben Dunham, near relatives.) They have one s, Francis D. Smith, b Sept. 29, 1919, and he m Marion Haggstrom of Monson. Catholic.
GEORGE B. SMITH, connected with the State Highway En- gineering Dept., was b to Ernest J. and Ella J. Brawn Smith in Dover-Foxcroft Mar. 27, 1910. He attended Higgins Classical Institute for a time. On June 6, 1937 he m Clara Bridges, the d of Vernon B. and Rowena Hathorn Bridges and b in D-F July 30, 1915. Both are g of Foxcroft Acad- emy, members of the Baptist church, the Eastern Star and Grange. He belongs to the Masons.
GEORGE LeROY SMITH, woolen mill man, is the s of Ander- son and Louise Ouilette Smith and was b in Glenburn Feb. 12, 1883. He m Clara Dickey and she was b to George E. and Ellen L. Smart Dickey in Easton Feb. 7, 1894. Ch: (1) George LeRoy, Jr., b Sep. 18, 1913, m Maude Prescott of Willimantic. He entered the war in July 1943 and served nearly three years, part of which was in the Persian Gulf Command, Engineers Service, and was discharged with the rank of sergeant. He m Alice Cross, who was b to Moses S. and Mary E. Pratt Cross in Foxcroft Sep. 7, 1891 .. Both are members of the Central Grange. Ch: (1) Cleon M., b Mar. 5, 1917, m Miss June Burrill of Brewer and they have Dianne Elizabeth, b Oct. 6, 1942, and Ellen June, b Aug. 23, 1945; (2) Elizabeth G., b July 24, 1919, m Murray Stanhope of Dover-Foxcroft, and they have Betty Jane, b Aug. 21, 1946.
JOSEPH SMITH, employed in local woolen mill, was b in Lith- uania Mar. 17, 1894, the s of John and Alice Smith. He m Julia Miller and she was b to John and Anellie Mary Miller. Their ch: (1) Evelyn, b in D-F, m Raymond Johnson and they have two d, Julia and Martha; (2) Ivan, b in June 1931 (?) Mrs. Smith died in Oct. 1940 (?)

He m Miss Velma Burgess, the d of Eugene P. and Vera Willey Burgess and b in Cherryfield Apr. 3, 1912. Both are g of Foxcroft Academy. He took a P. G. course at Higgins Classical Institute, and she also g from the Farmington State Normal school. Ch: Linda Jean, b Nov. 2, 1942, and Richard Alfred Smith, b Sep. 2, 1946. Baptist. Mr. Smith belongs to the Masons.
LOREN C. SMITH, highway construction worker, was b in Hancock Nov. 19, 1914, the s of Arthur and Ellen A. Rich- ardson Smith. He m Miss Pherona Carter, who was b to Everett E. and Alice Robinson Carter in Blue Hill Aug. 8, 1921. He g from the Ellsworth High school. Both belong to the Blue Hill Grange. French, who was b in Milo Sep. 22, 1910, the d of Ned and Pearl Mayo French. They have Richard Paul Smith, b Apr. 6, 1935, and Gerald Philip Smith, b Apr. 1, 1938.
RALPH L. SMITH, a clerk in Koritsky's store, was b in Dover- Foxcroft Apr. 20, 1910, the s of Davis A. and Bertha Mans- field Smith. He is a g of Foxcroft Academy. He m Miss Louise Campbell and she was b to Fred S. and Marie G. Perrault Campbell in Sangerville Aug. 2, 1911. She is a g of Foxcroft Academy and the Aroostook State Normal school. Ch: David Mansfield Smith, b July 11 1940, and Alan Campbell Smith, b Mar. 24, 1946. Mr. Smith belongs to Kineo Lodge of I. O. O. F.
