HASEY'S MAINE STAGES, INC. - Before Hasey's Maine Stage was founded, Harry E. Hasey, Jr., worked from June 9, 1935 to Dec. 9, 1935 for the Grey Lines as a mechanic. Finding himself out of work only a few weeks before Christmas was quite a shock to Harry, Jr. He decided that he would see if he might start his own business. Dec. 18, 1935 a letter was mailed to the Maine Public Utilities Com- mission for an application to operate a jitney bus between Bangor and Charleston. The application was forwarded immediately and a hearing was set for 10:30 a. m. Jan. 10, 1936.
Permission was granted, a bus was bought, and Hasey's Maine Stages started formal operations at 6:35 a. m. Feb. 3, 1936 from Haymarket Square in Bangor.
Mar. 20, 1936 a hearing was held regarding permission to operate to Dover-Foxcroft. Permission was granted, two more buses were bought and operation was started to Dover-Foxcroft May 13, 1936. At this time Harry E. Hasey, Sr., entered the business.
Application was made to operate to Guilford in Jan. 1937. By mutual agreement between the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad and Hasey's Maine Stage a hearing was averted. Operations were extended to include Guilford Feb. 5, 1937. Application was made to extend our operations to Green- ville in Sep. 1937, and again an agreement was reached with the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad and a hearing was avoided. Operation to Greenville with one trip and to Mon- son with another was started Oct. 11, 1937. This date co- incided with the capture of the Brady gang on Central Street in Bangor.
In November of 1938 the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad, wishing to cut out the regular passenger train up the Greenville Branch, approached us to supply bus service to give connections with trains number two and seven. We agreed to do this, provided we had certain restrictions re- moved from our permit. This was satisfactory to the Ban- gor and Aroostook, and they informed the Public Utilities

Commission to that effect. Service was started through Old Town and Milo to Greenville and return Dec. 5, 1938.
This gave two rounds trips, except Sunday, from Bangor by way of Kenduskeag, Corinth, Charleston, Dover-Foxcroft, Sangerville, Guilford, Abbot, Monson to Greenville, and one round trip, except Sunday, from Bangor by way of Veazie, Orono, Old Town, Alton, Lagrange, Milo, Dover- Foxcroft, to Greenville. On Sunday we operated a late afternoon trip from each end of the road on all routes, with the buses meeting in Dover-Foxcroft. The drivers from Greenville and Bangor, via Charleston, would exchange buses and return to Greenville and Bangor respectively. The driver from Bangor, via Milo, would, and still does, turn his bus around.
The foregoing service was maintained until Dec. 1, 1940, when service was initiated to Rockwood. In the fall of 1941 the road was allowed to get into such a state of disrepair that we felt the small amount of revenue due not warrant operating this service during the winter months. Since that time Rockwood service has been maintained from the last Sunday in April until the last Sunday in September.
Practically this same service was maintained until Decem- ber 1945, when we put on another trip starting from Green- ville in the morning and returning in the evening by way of Milo.
On Apr. 1, 1946 new service consisting of two round trips except Sunday was started between Guilford and Water- ville by way of Parkman, Cambridge, Harmony, Athens, Skowhegan, Hinckley and Fairfield. June 1, 1946 the Wa- terville route was extended to serve Sangerville and Dover- Foxcroft. Oct. 21, 1946 the Waterville route was extended to serve China, Albion, Unity, Troy, Dixmont, Newburg, Hampden and Bangor.
Due to the sparsely settled area from Waterville, we found that bus operation does not pay a profit. For this reason, the operation of the Waterville route between Waterville and Bangor will operate regular service on Monday, Fri- day and Saturday only, beginning June 1, 1947. If this ser- vice does not pay, we may have to curtail our operation further.
Sep. 2, 1946 service was started from Milo to Bangor by way of Lagrange, North Bradford Corner, Bradford Village, Hudson, Glenburn and East Bangor. This trip has operated since Oct. 15, 1946 on a schedule designed to make it con-

venient for commutors to travel from Milo and intermediate points to Bangor. The trip leaves Milo at 5:55 a. m., arriv- ing in Bangor at 7:25 a. m., giving a train connection for Boston via Augusta. It also gives a bus connection for Bos- ton and another for Belfast, Camden and Rockland, and another bus connection for Ellsworth and Bar Harbor. The return trip leaves Bangor by popular request at 5:10 p. m. In December of 1945 Hasey's Maine Stage incorporated, becoming Hasey's Maine Stages, Inc. Officers of the cor- poration are: Harry E. Hasey, Sr., president; Harry E. Hasey, Jr., treasurer; Paul D. Lamoreau, clerk. On Jan. 1, 1947 Paul D. Lamoreau bought into the business of Hasey's Maine Stages, Inc.
