MELVIN S. BLETHEN, a veteran of World War I and a mem- ber of the American Legion, is now assistant custodian of the Federal Records Bureau in Augusta, and since 1929 has been a partner in Dexter & Blethen, oil burner contractors. He belongs to the Masonic bodies. Mr. Blethen was b in Foxcroft Aug. 3, 1895, the s of Elmer R. and Lelia Snow Blethen. He resides on Winter St.
CHARLES H. BLOOD was b in Sebec May 18, 1864, the s of Albion P. and Sarah E. Marshall Blood. All of his active life he was a spool mill man and began his career in 1884 with the Willimantic Linen Co., Willimantic, Me., then under the supervision of the late Frank H. Drummond. This company later became the American Thread Co., and Mr. Blood served these companies in various capacities for 25 years, the last eleven years as assistant manager of the Milo mill. He then accepted the position as superintendent of the John MacGregor Mills in Dover-Foxcroft, where he remained until he retired at the age of 68 years. His wife was the former Ella M. Kincaid and she was b to Samuel L. and Theresa Ann Butterfield Kincaid in Hartland Oct. 29, 1869. Mrs. Blood died in Dover-Foxcroft in Jan. 1942. He m Marguerite A. Lary and she was b to George Ira and Florence Averill Lary in Dover May 11, 1921. She is a member of the Auxiliary of the V. F. W. They have Ernest L., b May 19, 1938, and Sharon A., b Dec. 24, 1941.
STANLEY E. BOSS, bridge superintendent for the State of Maine Highway Dept., was b to Albert H. and Susan Brawn Boss in Foxcroft Jan. 10, 1892, and g from Foxcroft Academy. He m Miss Ethel Dunham, who was b in Guil- ford Nov. 2, 1894, the d of Chas. C. and Belle Dow Dun- ham. Mr. Boss is a Mason, and both are members of the Eastern Star and the United Baptist Church. Children: Millard Otis Boss, b Apr. 7, 1920, and Richard Dunham Boss, b May 1, 1929. Millard O. g from Foxcroft Academy, also from the University of Maine in 1943 with the B. of S. degree in Mech. Engineering. He is a member of the Lamba Chi Alpha Club, and is a 32nd Degree Mason. In Sep. 1946 he was honorably discharged from the Army war ser- vice after having served in the Panama Canal area. Rich- ard D. is in school.

PAUL BOULEY, employed by the Stowell-MacGregor Spool Co., was b in Fort Kent July 3, 1898, the s of Thomas and Demeris Boutot Bouley. He m Miss Millie C. Ronco, who was b to John W. and Celestine King Ronco in Rockwood May 11, 1907. They have one d, Paulette Y., b in Bruns- wick Mar. 30, 1933, and now a student at the Foxcroft Academy.
FRANCIS W. BRADBURY, M. D., was b to Earl P. and Angie Richardson Bradbury in Enfield Oct. 30, 1915. He g from Brewer High school, from the University of Maine with an A. B. degree and from Harvard Medical school with the degree of M. D. He served in the Medical Corps of World War II three years, eighteen months of which was overseas. He m Mary Wingard of Brighton, Mass., who was b to Frank B. and Nora Quinn Wingard Mar. 31, 1921, and g from Arlington, Mass., High school in 1937. They have a d, Priscilla, b in Arlington, Mass., June 6, 1945, and a s, Jef- frey B., b in Dover-Foxcroft June 19, 1947.
ABBIE FRANCES BRANN, nee Abbie Frances Martin, wife of Cassius B. Brann, a lady noted for her sweet disposition and beloved by all who knew her, was b in Atkinson Mar. 8, 1853, the d of Samuel and Judith Greeley Martin. She was a descendant of old New England families, her great- grandfather, John Martin, having enlisted as a drummer boy in the Revolutionary war. She was educated in Charles- ton Academy and throughout her life read extensively and was particularly well informed. Prior to her marriage she was a school teacher in Atkinson. She was a faithful mem- ber and worker in the Free Baptist Church of Dover and in Miriam Chapter, O. E. S. She died at Dover Jan. 27, 1915, and is buried with her husband in Dover cemetery.
CASSIUS BERLIN BRANN, a highly respected citizen of Dover-Foxcroft, was b in West Dover Oct. 4, 1850, the s of George and Cynthia Batcheler Brann. Later his father moved to Garland, where Mr. Brann spent his youth and acquired his education. He was a master carpenter and designed and built numerous residences and farm build- ings in Piscataquis County, also some residences at Marble Hill in New York City. On July 4, 1874, at Charleston, he was married to Abbie F. Martin of Charleston. To them

were born Cynthia Anna Brann (see Anna Brann Gould), Judith Ella, Helen Florence and George S. Mr. Brann re- sided in Charleston until 1892, when he moved to Dover. Shortly after, Mr. Brann purchased the colonial house on Main Street directly opposite the court house, where he resided until his death. Abbie F. Brann died Jan. 27, 1915. On May 25, 1920, he married Mrs. Effie Bragg, who sur- vived him. He was made a Mason in a Massachusetts lodge, joined Olive Branch Lodge, A. F. & A. M., in Charleston, in which he served a very successful year as Worshipful Master. He later affw Mosaic Lodge in Dover. In politics he was a staunch Republican except during the Bull Moose campaign, when he was a supporter of Teddy Roosevelt. He died at his home May 11, 1933, in his 83rd year.
DONALD J. BRAWN, teamster and jobber, was b to Dennis J. and Angie F. Gray Brawn in Dover-Foxcroft June 22, 1907. He m Ivie Decker, who was b to Everett A. and Gertrude Young Decker in Dover June 13, 1917. Both are members of the Grange. Mrs. Brawn is a g of Foxcroft Academy. Their ch: Francis E., b Jan. 12, 1940; Dennis G., b Apr. 7, 1941; Angie M., b Dec. 3, 1944; Albert G., b Oct. 12, 1946.
HIRAM A. BRAWN was b in Foxcroft Oct. 17, 1870, the s of Seth and Mary Jeanette Chandler Brawn. Dec. 23, 1904, he m Nettie Pearl and she was b to Joseph and Augusta Beane Pearl in Charleston Dec. 7, 1878. They have no children. For many years Mr. Brawn supervised bridge construction work for the State, and in addition operated a farm. At present he is one of the Selectmen for Dover-Foxcroft. He belongs to the Masonic orders.
MRS. MABEL BRAWN has been proprietor of a boarding house for many years and for the last 14 years has been located on Winter Street. She was b to Dennis James and Angie Frances Gray Brawn in Guilford on Sep. 10, 1893, and attended Foxcroft Academy. July 25, 1912, she was m to Frank S. Vittum of Bingham, but they separated in 1922. Mrs. Brawn belongs to the Congregational church and the Dover Central Grange.
WALDO H. BRAWN, retired farmer, was b in Newport June 25, 1872, the s of George and Mary Nason Brawn. He has been a member of the old Co. F, National Guard, and the Grange. In Dec. 1909 he m Loretta Brawn and she was

b to Henry and Margaret Coulson Brawn in Foxcroft May 3, 1873. Mrs. Brawn died Oct. 10, 1944. They had no chil- dren.
BENJAMIN J. BRESETT, JR., was b in Pascoag, R. I., Aug. 30, 1885, the s of Benj. J., Sr., and Julia Dio Bresett. Aug. 16, 1909, he m Adabelle Cayton and she was b to Henry and Laura Jipson Cayton in Dover Nov. 24, 1887. They have no children. Mr. Bresett is a member of the Masons, I. O. O. F., and K. of P. lodges. He was employed in the B. & A. R. R. car shops for eleven years; is now a woolen mill weaver and loom fixer.
PHILIP J. BRIDGES, a carpenter, was b to Vernon B. and Rowena Hathorn Bridges in East Sangerville Feb. 21, 1920. Aug. 10, 1941, in the Methodist church at Brewer, he m Dorothy Whitney, a beautician, who was b in Parkman Sep. 10, 1918, the d of Roy L. and Elsie Currier Whitney. He g from Foxcroft Academy and she g from Brewer High School. They have one d, Judith Carolyn Bridges, b in Hartford, Conn., Apr. 30, 1943.
HORACE C. BRIGGS, doing public trucking, was b to Charles and Mary Dressler Briggs in DuBois, Penn., Jan. 27, 1873. He m Jennie Addie Hoak of Reynoldville, Penn. They had two ch: (1) Charles J., b in DuBois, Penn., Apr. 17, 1899. He m Mabel Wheaton of Dover-Foxcroft and they have one s, Lawrence (called Larry). (2) Hazel, b in DuBois, Penn., Oct. 25, 1901, m Harry Greenlaw of Charleston. They have no children. Horace Briggs resides on Winter Street. LAWRENCE CARROLL BRIGGS, store clerk, was b in Dover- Foxcroft Sep. 15, 1923, the s of Charles J. and Mabel Wheaton Briggs. His wife was the former Florence Bishop, d of Frank H. and Elizabeth White Bishop, and b in St. Albans Jan. 30, 1922. Mr. Briggs attended Foxcroft Acad- emy. Mrs. Briggs was g from Hartland Academy, attended Becker College in Worcester, Mass., and the Maine School of Commerce, Bangor. They have four ch: Mary J., b in Hartland Mar. 7, 1942; Janet Marie, b in Dover-Foxcroft July 5, 1943; Gary L., b in D-F Jan. 18, 1945, and Jeffery A., b in Hartland Aug. 30, 1946.

LOUIS F. BROWN, poultryman, was b in Dover-Foxcroft May 16, 1885, the s of Frank A. and Estelle M. Brown. He m Miss Marion Dow, who was b to Wallace and Mabel Tit- comb Dow in East Dover Feb. 21, 1896. (The Dows were among the very first settlers of the town and Wallace Dow has been identified with town affairs for many years.) Mr. Louis F. Brown attended Higgins Classical Institute and the University of Maine, and Mrs. Brown g from Foxcroft Academy. She has been postmaster at East Dover for nine- teen years. Both are members of the Grange.
MAURICE O. BROWN, M. D., was born Feb. 22, 1873, the s of Frank A. and Estelle Saunders Brown of East Dover. He was graduated from Farmington Normal School, at- tended Maine Central Institute at Pittsfield, the University of Vermont, was graduated from the University of Balti- more, and did post-graduate work at Tulane University in New Orleans. Dr. Brown first practised medicine at Mon- roe, then at Easton, after which he gained much valuable experience as assistant physician for the Canadian Pacific Ry. Following a short period at Fort Kent, he came to Dover-Foxcroft, where he practised successfully for thirty- eight years. Here he passed away May 22, 1946. He m Miss Blanche Wass, who was b in Addison May 17, 1881, the d of Leander K. and Nellie Crowley Wass. Mrs. Brown was graduated from Kents Hill Seminary and taught school for eight years before marriage. She has been postmaster at Dover-Foxcroft since July 16, 1936. Their ch are: Ruth W. Brown, b Apr. 7, 1910, who m B. Thomas Potter, Jr., of Cranston, R. I., where they reside, and Philip W. Brown, b Apr. 8, 1914, single, who lives in Providence, R. I.

WILLIAM H. BURDICK, general manager for the W. Cushing & Co., dye manufacturers, was b in Dover Sep. 16, 1904, the s of R. Howard and Sarah Buck Burdick, and was g from Foxcroft Academy in 1923. He m Pauline Jordan, the d of Ernest H. and Tena Burdin Jordan and b in Sebec June 20, 1902. Ch: Carol Louise, b Aug. 23, 1928, and g from Foxcroft Academy in 1946; Charlotte Ann, b Sep. 12, 1932, is a student at the Academy.
EUGENE P. BURGESS, service man for the Central Maine Power Co., was b in Sebec Village, the s of William E. and Lucy Parshley Burgess May 2, 1887, and g from Fox- croft Academy. His wife was the former Vera Willey and was b to Albert H. and Amelia Hart Willey in Cherryfield Mar. 16, 1889, and she was g from Cheryrfield Academy. Mr. Burgess belongs to the Masons, she belongs to the Eastern Star, and they are affw the Baptist church. They have one d, Velma Willey, b Apr. 3, 1912. (See Lloyd Smith item.)

WILLIAM ALDEN BURGESS, lawyer, has been Judge of Pro- bate Court since 1927. He was b in Atkinson May 11, 1874, the s of Thomas Selden and Ellen A. Perkins Burgess, and g from Higgins Classical Institute in 1894. May 4, 1898, he m Eva May Morrill and she was b to Elbridge C. and Mary F. Smart Morrill in Atkinson Jan. 29, 1876. Ch: Thomas S., b Mar. 7, 1900; Wilma M., b June 24, 1902; Margaret M. (Buck), b Feb. 10, 1905. Mr. Burgess is a member of the Maine Bar Association, Piscataquis Bar Association; belongs to the Masons and Knights of Pythias, and the family are Methodist. Mr. Burgess has held various public offices. He served as County Attorney 1907-1910; was postmaster at Sangerville 1903-1912, is the present Judge of Probate, and is one of the trustees of the local Methodist church. He was admitted to the Maine Bar in 1897; to the Florida Bar in 1912. Practised at Sangerville 1898-1912; at Bartow, Fla., 1912-1920, and at Dover-Foxcroft since 1920. He is a direct descendant of Thomas and Dorothy Burgess, who came to America from England, and settled in Sandwich, Mass., in 1637. Mr. and Mrs. Burgess have four granddaughters: Katherine Burgess Coy, Charlotte Edith Burgess, Marion Ruth Burgess and Shirley Ann Buck; also two great-grand- sons, Thomas Harrison Coy and Desmond Alan Coy.
