She was admitted to the church July 1, 1838.

Mary Elizabeth Morrison, b. in Shapleigh, Me., April 15, 1811, a daughter of John and Mary (Perry) Morrison. She married Jesse E. Emerson (No. 308), and was admitted to the church by letter from the church in Canaan, Ang. 25, 1838. She d. in Hampstead, Jan. 8, 1892, aged 79 years, and 10 months. They had an only child, Alfred P., b. July 26, 1841 ; m. S. Francena Diamond, b. Oct. 12, 1846 (p. 368, Vol. 1). Their children :-

Susan Dana, b. in Newburyport, Mass., Aug. 4, 1808, was a daughter of Rev. Dr. Daniel Dana, who was pastor of the church in Newburyport for fifty years, and great-grand- daughter of Rev. Joseph Dana, D. D., pastor of the church at Ipswich, Mass., for more than sixty years. Her mother was Elizabeth, daughter of Capt. William Coombs, of New- buryport. Her early education was received in Boston, in the family of her uncle, Hon. Israel Thorndyke, one of Bos- ton's leading merchants, who, with Daniel Webster, resided

in a large double mansion on Summer street, where Susan Dana, as a young girl, often met in society Josiah Quincy, Lafayette, and Daniel Webster. She married Rev. John MeC. Bartley (No. 328), and was admitted to the church in Hampstead by letter from the First Church at Newburyport. June 1, 1838, and was dismissed and recommended. to the Presbyterian Church at Newburyport, September, 1865. She d. in Malden, Mass., Jan. 16, 1900, aged 91 years and 5 months. Her funeral was held at her home in Malden, and another in the venerable church at Kittery Point, Me .. where she was laid to rest beside her husband (see p. 324, Vol. 1). She is remembered as a woman " of very attrac- . tive personality, bright, highly cultured, with courteous manner. and for her strength and loveliness of Christian character." Their children were :-

VI. Susan Dana, b. July 10. 1844. She has been a resident of Malden for several years. For ten years she was a teacher in the Pinkerton Academy at Derry, but devoted herself to the care of her aged mother in her declining years. " The Mys- tic Side Congregational Church at Everett, Mass .. owes much to her activity and good judgment."

stead. Ile was captain of the Hampstead Light Infantry, and was the contractor of the first church, built in 1837. He lived where Mr. Joseph Frost now resides, in the brick house. He m .. second, Judith, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth ( Bartlett) Sargent of Sandown (see Appendix). They had a son, Kimball, who died young.

Sarah Webster, b. in AAtkinson, May 21, 1797, a daughter of Ensign John and Sarah ( Little) Webster. She married Capt. James Gibson (No. 356). She was admitted to the church Sept. 3, 1838, and d. in Hampstead. They had chil- dren :--

Abigail Wadleigh, b. in Gilmanton, Sept. 7, 1787, a daughter of Jonathan and Abigail (Eastman) Wadleigh. Her mother died when she was seven years of age, and she came to Hampstead to live in the family of her grandfather, Peter Eastman. Her mother was b. He married Mary H. Calef (No. 368). He was admitted to the church Sept. 3, 1838, and d. in llampstead, Aug. 8, 1872, and was buried in the village cemetery.

She was admitted to the church Sept. 3, 1838, and d. in Hampstead, Feb. 25, 1855, and was buried in the village cemetery. Her husband d. in Hampstead, April 29, 1798, aged 25 years. Harriet Rollins, b. in Haverhill, Mass., Sept. 15, 1805, a daughter of John Rollins of Haverhill and wife Elizabeth. daughter of Maverick Johnson of Haverhill. She married, first. Daniel Black of Londonderry, in 1826, and had one daughter. Elizabeth, who married T. F. Griffin of Haverhill. She married, second, Amos Nelson (No. 372), Sept. 15, 1833, by whom she had children :-
I. Miss Harriet O .. for many years a teacher in Haverhill High School, and well known as a writer of many interesting arti- cles in educational journals.

Mrs. Nelson was admitted to the church Sept. 3, 1838, and dismissed to unite with the Congregational Church at South Danvers, Mass., April 3, 1839, and later was connected with the Center church in Haverhill. She d. in Haverhill in 1874.

Mary French, b. in Hampstead, Dec. 18, 1796, a daughter of Joseph and Molly (Tilton) French (Nos. 173, 174). She married Joseph Hoyt of Hampstead. She was admitted to the church Sept. 3, 1838. She d. in Hampstead, April 11, 1832, aged 56 years. Their children were : Irene, Eliza- beth. Daniel, and Arannah.

Hannah Johnson, b. in Seabrook. She married, first, Samuel Marsh of Fremont. She married, second, David Irving, as his second wife (see No. 283). They lived in Fremont for a time, where Mr. Irving had charge of a grist mill. She was admitted to the church Sept. 3, 1838. Sam- uel Marsh was a brother of Rev. John Marsh of Fremont, and son of Trueworthy Marsh.

Ralph Brickett, b. in Hampstead, Feb. 15, 1795, a son of James and Anna (Wheeler ) Brickett (Nos. 224, 225). He married Sally Ordway (No. 275). April 16, 1823, and resided in Hampstead, Atkinson, and Lawrence, Mass. IIe was admitted to the church Sept. 3, 1838. Dismissed, to unite with the Church of Christ in Lawrence, Nov. 24, 1848, and from there united with the church at Atkinson, January, 1859. Hle d. in Atkinson, March 24, 1863, and was buried in the village cemetery. " The first belted saw-mill used in New Hampshire was built for him in 1836, in con- nection with a shingle mill in Atkinson to split the stuff. It had no counterbalance."

Dr. Isaac Tewksbury, b. in West Newbury, Mass., Jan. 13, 1795, a son of Jona. and Elizabeth ( Merrill) Tewksbury, of West Newbury. (Note this correction from p. 325, Vol. 1, in the record of his birth and parentage.) Ile married Sabra Foster ( No. 317), who d. Nov. 25, 1858 : and he mar- ried, second, Harriet, the widow of Parker Smith, of Law- renee, Mass., in 1859. He was admitted to the church Sept. 3, 1838. He removed to Lawrence in 1847, and in 1881 returned to Hampstead, and d. here Jan. 25, 1885. He was buried in the village cemetery (see p. 325, Vol. 1, for sketch of his life work).

Albert Alphonso Little, b. in Hampstead, March 9, 1818, a son of Stephen and Betsey (Greenough) Little (see No. 370). He was admitted to the church membership, "on a siek and dying bed, having shown to be in feeble and de- clining health," in his room, Sept. 3, 1838. He d., unmar- ried, Feb. 25, 1839, and was buried in the village cemetery.

Dudley George, b. in Hampstead, May 7, 1789, a son of Jonathan and Hannah (Currier) George (No. 243). He married Betsey Ordway (No. 380). He was admitted to the church Nov. 11, 1838, and d. in Hampstead, Jan. 28, 1867, aged 77 years, 8 months. He was buried in the village cemetery. He resided at the "George homestead" at West Hampstead.

He was a blacksmith by trade, and resided a few years in East Hampstead, and returned to West Newbury, where he d. of consumption, Sept. 5, 1849. Ile was admitted to the church by letter from the church in West Nembury, Nov. 11, 1838. Dismissed and recommended to the church in Georgetown, Mass., under the pastoral care

of Rev. Mr. Branan, April 1, 1839. They had three children. The widow married, second, Joseph Brown, of Haverhill, Mass., and d. May 30, 1893.

Lorenzo IIale Babb, b. in Hampstead, Jan. 19, 1819, a son of Nathaniel and Mary (Noyes) Babb (No. 273). He married, and resided in Marysville, California, where he died, leaving three children and thirteen grandchildren. His daughter, Mrs. Mary A. Beever, resides in Bourneville, Yuba county, Cal. He was admitted to the church Nov. 11, 1838. Dismissed to the Church of Christ, on Bowdoin street, Bos- ton, Mass., Feb. 6, 1841. He d. Sept. 18, 1888. A friend writes that " his business and church life in Marysville was uplifting to society."

Susan Eastman Putnam, b. in Hampstead, Jan. 19, 1820, a daughter of Thorndyke and Mary (Chase) Putnam (see No. 381). She married George Evan Merrill in 1851. She was admitted to the church Nov. 11, 1838, and dismissed to Center Church, in Haverhill, Mass. They had four children, three now living, two sons in the West, and Mary Putnam, a teacher in the public schools of Haverhill.

Ruth Chase, b. on " Meeting House Hill," in West New- bury, Mass., March 24, 1768, a daughter of Tristram and Priscilla Chase of Newbury. She married, first, Enoch Smith, Nov. 18, 1826, " when 58 years of age, as his second wife." She married, second, James Brickett of Hampstead (No. 224), Ang. 21, 1838, by the Rev. John Q. A. Edgell. She was admitted to the church by letter from the church in West Newbury, March 10, 1839, and d. in West Newbury, and was buried there.

Mary Ann Garland, b. in Hampstead, Sept. 28, 1820, a daughter of Benjamin B. and Mary H. (Calef) Garland (Nos. 220, 221). She married Frederick A. Pike of Hamp- stead, who d. Jan. 25, 1883. She was admitted to the church May 5, 1839, and d. at the home of her brother, J. W. Gar- land (where she had made her home since she became a widow ), March 7, 1901, and was buried in the village ceme- tery. They had no children, but made a home for several young people until they married. Among them were: Miss Lizzie E. Smith (mar. George Hill of Plaistow), Carrie P. Noyes of Atkinson (mar. Edwin A. Chase of Haverhill), Alice A. Davis (mar. Prof. Forrest E. Merrill), Carrie A. Smith (mar. Andrew M. Moulton of Hampstead), and Ar- thur E. Bond of Waltham, Mass., who have had the kindest remembrance, with others, of " Auntie Pike," as she was called.

of Jeremiah and Martha ( Lake ) Sanborn. His father was born in Chichester, Feb. 11, 1773, a son of JJeremiah San- born of Chichester. His mother, Martha Lake, was b. March 21, 1773, in Chichester, a daughter of Thomas Lake, who was b. in or near Portsmouth, England, in 1734, who, when 14 years of age, emigrated to Portsmouth, in 1748, going

later to Rve, and in 1785 to Chichester, with his family, on a farm now owned by his great-grandson, Joseph T. Lake, situated on the road leading from the Pine Ground, so called, in Chichester, to Pittsfield village. He married Mrs. Eunice (Seavey ) Davis, and d. March 6, 1816. The family of Jeremiah and Martha ( Lake) Sanborn were :-
I. Anna, m. James Sanborn of Chichester.
II. Eunice, m. Abraham Staniels of Chichester.
III. Mathew. m. Maria Moulton. and had a large family in Chiches- ter.
IV. Betsey. m. Jacob T. Moulton of Chichester.
V. Josiah, m. Nancy Staniels of Chichester.
VI. James Beverly. m. Mary Ann Babb of Effingham.
VII. Emma, m. JJohn Fowler of Amesbury, Mass.
VIII. William (No. 390). m .. first. Mary Greenleaf (No. 391): m., see-
ond, Lois Calef (No. 425); m .. third, Mary J. Heath (No. 449).
IX. Jeremiah, m. Sarah Morrill of Portsmouth.
X. Lowell, m. and resided in Maine: d. 1890.
William resided with his first wife, in Pittsfield, for a time. then removed to Hampstead, about 1840. He was admitted to the church by letter from the church in Pittsfield, Oct. 30, 1840. He was elected deacon of the church Ang. 16, 1859, " after removing from his mind objections based on a per- sonal unfitness, he accepted the office." (Church records.) "On Oct. 30, 1884, it was voted unanimously not to excuse Dea. Sanborn or grant his request of resigning his office at the expiration of his twenty-five years of service, but on Dec. 30, 1884, it was voted to accept it, and hereafter elect deacons once in three years." Dea. Sanborn d. in Hamp- stead. Sept. 18, 1893, and was buried in Hampstead.

Mary Greenleaf, b. in Canterbury, April, 1814, a daugh- ter of Edmund and Lydia ( Bartlett) Greenleaf of Canter- bury. She married William Sanborn (No. 390), Sept. 20, 1837, and d. in Hampstead in 1844. She was admitted to

the church by letter from the church in Pittsfield, Oct. 30, 1840. They had one daughter, Martha (No. 446).

Martha Ann Ham, b. in Portsmouth, Sept. 11, 1812, a daughter of William and Mary Langdon (Holbrook ) Ham, of Portsmouth. She married David Poor Little (No. 270), Sept. 3, 1833. She was admitted to the church from the church in Portsmouth, Oct. 30, 1840. She d. in Chicago, Ill., Feb. 24, 1888, and was buried in Epping. They had children :-
1. Ellen Harriet, b. Nov. 2, 1834; d., unmarried, in 1852.
II. Albert William, b. March 17, 1836; m .; first, Maria E. Blackley of Pelham, and had two children :-
1. llattie Bell, b. April 25, 1865; m. Watson B. Scott of Chicago, Nov. 18, 1890.
2. Arthur Waldo, b. July 27, 1868; d. young.
Ile married, second, Ella Viola, daughter of Avender and Laura A. (Wheeler) Corson, of Hampstead (see p. 369, Vol. 1), and had children :-

4. Walter Avender, b. Feb. 2, 1889; d. June 10, 1899. Eben llale, b. Feb. 6, 1839; m., first, Mary Eliza, daughter of Hliram and Louis A. (Hoyt) Nichols (p. 379, Vol. 1); had one child :- Jesse May, b. Nov. 9, 1867; m. -- Tilton, of Brad- ford, Mass.
IV. Martha Louisa, b. April 8, 1843; m. George Melvin Huntress of Portsmouth. They have children :-
1. Ellen Lonisa, b. 1863; d. young.
2. Willie, b. July 29, 1865.
3. Jennie Dodge, b. 1868; d. young.
4. Albert Senter, b. July 3, 1873. 5. Helen Webster, b. Jan. 20, 1878.
V. Jay Plummer, b. March 11, 1843; m. Rosiline Wentworth, of Rumney. Their only child, Walter, d. in infancy.
VI. Emma Placenta, b. July 31, 1847; m., Aug. 24, 1867, James llenry Rowe, a carriage manufacturer of Brentwood. They had children :-
