Fannie Faith Davis, b. in Sandown, June 13, 1879, a daughter of James A. Davis, who was born in Hubbardston, Mass., May 27, 1850, and who married, July 15, 1874, Mar- tha Lois Chase, who was born in Haverhill, Mass., March 7, 1853, and died in Lynn, Mass., Oct. 10, 1887, and buried in West Hampstead cemetery. Martha L. Chase was a daugh- ter of Ephraim and Sarah (Eaton) Chase, of Sandown. Mrs. Chase now resides in West Hampstead, with her son-in-law and second wife, Clara A. Irving (No. 476), in her 92d year. She is a daughter of Samuel Eaton, b. about 1760, son of Joseph, son of Thomas, son of Thomas Eaton, Jr., all of Haverhill, whom tradition says was killed by the Indians in the Haverhill massacres. Mrs. Chase has the deeds of land to Thomas Eaton and to Joseph Eaton, dated Dec. 6, 1682, and another dated Nov. 25, 1717 ; also a cap- tain's commission to Joseph Eaton, dated April 3, 1776. James A. and Martha L. (Chase) Davis had children :-


I. Alfred Chase, b. Sept. 15, 1875; m. Alice R. Osgood (No. 724).


II. Fannie F. (above). She was educated in Meriden Academy, and at present is a trained nurse in Connectient. She was adm. to the church June 28, 1895, and is a present member.

Sarah Ordway Brickett, b. in Hampstead, Feb. 16, 1827, a daughter of Ralph and Sally (Ordway) Brickett (Nos. 376, 275), (p. 344, Vol. 1). She was educated in the public schools of Hampstead, Wentworth Academy, and Stevens Academy, at Claremont, and under private instruction at Lawrence, Mass., and Boston. She began teaching in the Oliver grammar school in Lawrence in 1848. in the Bowdoin School in Boston in 1868, where she continued till 1889, when she returned to Hampstead to make her home. She was a member of the board of education from 1891 to 1897. She was admitted to the church by letter from the Mt. Vernon Congregational Church in Boston, Mass., Nov. 7, 1897, and is a present member. (See photo, Vol. 1.)

Minnie Maria Fitts, b. in Hampstead, Jan. 21, 1868. a daughter of George C. and H. Maria (Stevens) Fitts (see No. 555). She was educated in the public schools of Hamp- stead. She was admitted to the church from the M. E. Church at West Hampstead (which she joined March 18, 1888), Sept. 6, 1897, and is a present member.

Walter Alfonso Johnson, b. in Haverhill, Mass., March 24, 1880, a son of Gideon W. and Ida A. (Vincent) Johnson (see p. 381, Vol. 1). He was educated in the public and high school, graduate of class of 1899, and at Brewster

Academy at Wolfboro, where he was a graduate of class of 1901. He entered Dartmouth Medical School in 1901. Hle was admitted to the church May 7, 1899, and is a present member. (See photo, Vol. 1.)

Bradley Noah Haynes. b. in Chester. Aug. 3, 1851, a son of Oliver Smith and Lydia Williams (Lang) Haynes (No. 571). His father dying when he was eight years of age, his educational advantages were meagre, being confined to such education as he could obtain in the brick school house at the head of Chester street, and one term and part of another at Chester Academy. He married Sarah A. Barker (No. 745), and resides in Hampstead. He first joined the M. E. Church at Hampstead in 1876. From there he united with the Mt. Washington Baptist Church, Haverhill, Mass., July 6, 1886, and was admitted to the Congregational church at Riverside. Haverhill. He then moved to Notting- ham, and united with the Free Will Baptist Church in that place. From there he went to Epping, where he joined the M. E. church : then he moved to Riverside, Haverhill. Jan. 20, 1889, when he was chosen a deacon of that church. January, 1891. which office he retained till he moved to Hampstead and united here by letter from the Riverside church, June 26, 1898. A friend writes: " He has always taken a prominent part in the above-named churches, and tried to do what he could. Dea. Haynes has a reason to be proud of his church record."

Sarah Ardenalı Barker, b. in Candia. March 10. 1848. a daughter of Abram D. and Mary D. ( Harrington) Barker, of Candia. She married Bradley N. Haynes (No. 744), March 9, 1872. " Mrs. Haynes has enjoyed the varied expe- riences of her husband, and has been an active participant in the same church work. As a nurse she is widely known. and is held by her patients in kindly remembrance." She was admitted to the church by letter from the Riverside church at Ilaverhill, Mass .. June 26, 1898, and is a present mem- ber. Children :-

Mabelle Estelle Mills, b. in Sandown, Oct. 23, 1875, a daughter of Elwin C. Mills and Sarah A., daughter of Giles and Mary ( Plummer) Davis, who was a daughter of Sammuel Plummer, of Hampstead. Giles Davis married, first, Sarah Hloyt (see No. 615). Mabel E. was educated in the public schools of Sandown, and three years at Pinkerton Academy, Derry. She has taught school two years in Sandown, and five at East Hampstead. Her musical education was under Mrs. Crawford, of Chester, and Azro Dow, of Haverhill, Mass .. and she has taught music very acceptably for some years. She married Clinton C. Buttrick, of East Hampstead, June 22, 1901, and now resides at East Hampstead. She was admitted to the church July 2, 1899, and is a present mem- ber.

He married Sarah Palmer, b. in Haverhill, Mass., Sept. 8. 1730, a daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Lull) Palmer, of Haverhill. They had six children, b. in Hampstead (see p. 421, Vol. 1). They owned the covenant October, 1752, and later moved to Goffstown, N. H. Widow of James Heath married, third, - Robertson.

Moses Hale, Jr., born in Rowley, Mass.


Son of Moses and Elizabeth (Wheeler) Hale (Nos. 57, 58. ch. mem ); married Abigail Emerson (No. 6), born in Hampstead. Nov. 20. 1739, daughter of Stephen and Hannah (Marden) Emerson (Nos, 15, 16, ch. mem.). He removed to Rindge from Hampstead about 1760, where he was a selectman in 1771. and held various town offices. He was coroner of Cheshire county in 1778 and 1783, and afterwards county treasurer. " Ile was a substantial and respected citizen. but not as prominent in polities as his brothers, Enoch and Nathan " (see No. 58). He d. in Rindge. N. IL., March 2. 1799; wife d. Aug. 27, 1821; both buried in Rindge. They had children, first four buried in Hampstead, others in Rindge.

Otho Stevens, Jr., born in Gloucester, Mass., in 1722.


Son of Otho and Abigail (Kent) Stevens (Nos. 63, 64, ch. mem.) : mar- ried Abigail Emerson, b. March 20, 1737, daughter of Benjamin and Hannah (Watts) Emerson (Nos. 37 and 38, ch. mem.), Oct. 28, 1752. They owned the covenant, April, 1754. He died Sept. 21, 1759, aged 37 years. He was with Wolfe at the storming of Quebec, and while climbing the Heights of Abraham his foot shipped, and he fell to the bottom, which caused such injuries as to result in his death, and he was taken back to Oswego, where he died. Capt. Jacob Bayley's Journal reads, "Oswego, Friday, Sept. 21. 1759. Cool morning, but pleasant. AAbout 2 o'clock in the afternoon dies Otho Stevens after a long and tedious illness of 22 days, much lamented by his relations and friends, he being a loving brother and a faithful friend. He was sensible to the last breath he drew, and sensible of his approaching near another world, which did not in the least ruthle his spirits. But he seemed to have his hope firmly placed in God." They had children, b. in Hampstead :-

11. Simon, b. March 14, 1755; mar. Elizabeth Boynton. He died June 19, 1825. She was born Nov. 10, 1754, and d. Feb. 9, 1846. They lived and died in Canterbury, where they had twelve children, of whom John, who married Submit New- comb, was one, who moved to Boscawen (now Webster), where their eight children were born, and his wife, Submit, died and was buried there. He married a second time, and moved to Illinois, with his sons. They have descendants in Princeton, III.


III. Jesse, b. Jan. 22, 1757.


IV. Jacob, b. March 16. 1759; d., aged one year.


After Otho Stevens' death, in 1757. Abigail, his wife, married Deacon David Morrill, of Canterbury, Dec. 28, 1763, and moved there with her children. The old house is still standing, and owned by a descendant, Mr. Charles Sargent. of Canterbury, and is in good condition. Abigail ( Emerson) (Stevens) Morrill died JJune 30, 1833, aged 95 years and seven

months, and was buried in the Center cemetery at Canterbury. She has been noted as " a remarkably fine woman." Her children, b. in Can- terbury, were :-

A daughter of Richard and Sarah (Clement) Hazen, of Haverhill and Hampstead (see Nos. 2 and 3, list of ch. mem.). She married John Mooers of Londonderry. She owned the covenant, April, 1754. Hler daughter, Hannah, was b. in Hampstead. Nov. 2, 1756.


Nos. 10, 11. Joseph Terrill, b. in Salisbury, Mass., in 1703.


Son of JJohn and Susanna (Page) Terrill. of Salisbury ; married Martha Thunston. b. in Amesbury in 1707, daughter of James and Fanny ( Gile) Thurston. They owned the covenant, JJuly, 1754, and removed to Coos county in 1762.
