Ezra Willard Pepper, b. in Washington, Vt., June 18. 1833, a son of Willard and Rachel (Taylor) Pepper of Washington. He was a carpenter and shoemaker by trade. He married Susan E. Hyde (No. 691), and died at the late Dr. Tewksbury's home, July 30, 1900. He was admitted to the church September 1, 1891.

Jan. 6. 1847, a daughter of Lorenzo Dow Hyde, b. in Tamworth, and his wife Mary Smith Thompson, b. in Gilford, who moved to Hampstead, about 1856, and both died here. Susan was educated in the public schools, and for several years was a member of the church choir. She married Ezra W. Pepper (No. 687), July 30, 1865. She was admitted to the church September 1, 1891, and is present member ; they have no children.

Mary Story Fuller, b. in Dunbarton, March 12 ,1837, a daughter of Jared and Thankful (Story ) Fuller of Dunbar- ton, now both deceased. Jared Fuller was a son of Stephen Fuller, who served in the Revolutionary war, and he, with two other soldiers. in running the blockade, carrying pro- visions to our troops at Charlestown, Mass., were fired upon. One man lost his head, and the spent bullet took off the thumb of Mr. Fuller.


Mary S. Fuller was educated at Pinkerton Academy, Derry. She married Aaron Smith, who was a soldier in the civil war. He enlisted first from Worcester, Mass., in Co. E, 42 Reg. of Infantry, for nine months. The second time in the Mass. Heavy Artillery, Co. D, 4th Reg .. and served until the close of the war, being discharged at Fort Richardson, Vt., June 17, 1865. She was admitted to the church by letter from the Pilgrim Church at Dorchester, Mass., December 15, 1892, and is a present member. They had children :-

Rev. Rufus Parker Gardner, b. in Orland, Me., Sept. 14, 1858. His early education was in the town of Orland, and from his eleventh year in the schools of Castine, where he was a graduate from high and State Normal Schools. He received a business training from Howe's Commercial School at Worcester, Mass., and was a graduate from Bry- ant and Stratton's Business College, Boston. He pursued a classical course of college work under private tutors, taught two years in the district schools, and two years as an instruc- tor in East Maine Conference Seminary at Bucksport, Me. After serving two and a half years on missionary work in

As an orphan, she came to live in Hampstead when about eight years of age, and attended the common schools, and one year at the high school. Lydia Maria Sargent, b. in Chester, March 28, 1827, a daughter of Abraham and widow Sarah ( Underhill) (Green- ongh) Sargent, of Chester. She married Timothy Wells, of Chester, Nov. 28, 1846, who died Dec. 9. 1872. She was admitted to the church by letter from the First Congrega- tional Church at Bradford, Mass .. Feb. 28, 1895, and is a present member. Mrs. Wells was matron at the Bradford Female Seminary, Bradford, eight years, from 1873; one year in a young ladies' parlor school at Boston : four years at the New Hampshire State Normal School at Plymouth ; one year at Tilton Seminary ; five years at St. Mary's Episcopal School, Concord, and two years at Tabor Academy, at Marion, Mass. They had children :-


I. Mary Sargent, b. Nov. 12, 1847; m. Andrew D. Norcross of Athol, Mass. ; she died leaving one child.


Mary M., m. Harry JJustin Colburn, a teacher at Wilbra- ham Academy.


II. Sarah Greenongh, b. Dec. 16, 1849; m. Amos Brown of Auburn, (deceased); no children.


III. Clement Henry, b. Oct. 20, 1852; m. Lora M. Moore; resides in Chester; they have children :-.

b. in London, England. He resided for a number of years in the family of Mr. and Mrs. Spinney (Nos. 640). He en- listed in the U. S. Navy, and served in the Spanish-Ameri- can war. He was at Annapolis Naval Academy two years. He is married, and has children : a resident of Chicago. He was admitted to the church by letter from the First Church at Brockton, Ill., Feb. 28, 1895, and is a present member.

Lizzie S. Hoyt, b. in Sandown, a daughter of Eben Hoyt of Sandown, and wife, who was widow of James Hoyt of Sandown. She was admitted to the church by letter from the M. E. Church of Sandown, Feb. 28, 1895, and was dis. May 3, 1900, to unite with the St. Paul's M. E. Church at Manchester.

Calvin Abner Merrick, b. in Salem, July 8, 1850, a son of Abner Merrick, of North Salem, and his wife, Eliza (Nightingale), of Roxbury, Mass. He married Annie L. Heath (No. 465), June 29, 1872, and moved to Hampstead. He was admitted to the church March 3, 1895. He resides in Hampstead.

Charles Henry Whittier, b. in Danville, May 12, 1850, a son of George and Eunice (Locke) Whittier, of Danville. He married Lilla H. Page (No. 736). He is a shoemaker and barber in Hampstead. He was admitted to the church June 28, 1895, and was dis. Nov. 23, 1899.
