ANNUAL REPORT

OF THE

SELECTMEN

1916

TOWN OF RANDOLPH

REPORT OF SELECTMEN

The Selectmen of Randolph herewith submit their re- port of the receipts and expenditures for the year ending December 31, 1916.

The amount of money paid on account of highways is much larger than usual, but will be understood when the circumstances are taken into account.

The amount expended for removal of snow last year was $1,600; most of this amount was spent in the month of March, after the annual town meeting.

The amount paid The Barrett Mfg. Co. for Tarvia, $1,717, was a bill contracted in the year 1915. These two bills amounted to $3,317. The total amount paid for high- ways, general repairs is $8,100; the usual amount spent on highways is between $5,000 and $6,000; showing the actual expenditure this year for general repairs is less than other years.

In response to a vote taken at a town meeting on March 15, 1915, that a uniform system of bookkeeping be in- stalled to meet the State requirements, a committee con- sisting of Patrick H. McLaughlin, Herbert F. French and Joseph A. Devine was appointed to arrange for such a system with the result that the accounting of the town depart- ment is now conducted under the method demanded by the State. The work involved made heavy demands on the committee and special mention must be made of the ser- ' vices of Mr. Herbert F. French, distinguished as one of the most expert accountants of the country, who cheerfully assumed charge of the work and gave generously of his
