TREE WARDEN'S REPORT.
In submitting this report I will say that the condition of the Town Trees are about the same as last year, some few have died, and none have been replaced. Removing trees in Hodgdons lane
-44-
has made an extra expense that cut short my setting out trees. Most of the trees have been cared for by diging out the grass, but no mulching has been done.
A large amount of spraying was done on private places early in the spring, with results possibly not as satisfactory as might have been. To spray everybody's trees the same day with one hand power sprayer is impossible, as well as once spraying to kill the beetles, for the whole season. To get good results trees should be sprayed a second time in August.
Considerable brush has been cut, and considerable more re- mains to be cut, though our roads are in better shape as far as brush in concerned than most of towns.
Respectfully submitted,
H. A. FISH, Tree Warden.
REPORT OF SUPERINTENDENT, FOR THE SUPPRES- SION OF GYPSY AND BROWN TAIL MOTHS
The condition of the orchards in Town is considerably improved since last year, in many cases the fall inspection showed no signs of infestation, while other places were slightly infested.
The woodlands are quite badly infested, 49 places have been found to date. A large amount of cutting and clearing up has been done by orders of the State Superintendent, and no work or expenditures of money has been done without his orders. Most of the work has been done in the woodland, and the orchard work is going on. Owners can not be depended on to clear their places, as a rule most of property owners are totally indifferent about the matter. Time will teach them if man cannot. It is a harder problem than most people realize.
Respectfully submitted,
H. A. FISH, Local Superintendent.
Duxbury, Mass., February 1, 1908.

REPORT OF FIRE ENGINEERS.
The Board of Engineers respectfully submit their annual re- port.
The town has been very fortunate during the past year, not having had any serious fires; due to the promptness in which the alarms were given, and responded to by the fire department.
Engine No. 1 answered ten calls. Three were house fires, four forest fires and three were grass fires at which buildings were in danger.
The engine house at Hall's corner has been completed and occupied since September. Engine No. 2 answered six calls, three house and three brush fires.
Stoves have been placed in each house, to be used when there is danger of the chemical freezing. Telephones installed at Cushing's stable and at H. E. Merry's, of which we pay one- half the yearly cost. It will be necessary to purchase more hose for each engine, coal and wood for each house, and for other expenses which will confront us we ask for an appropri- ation of $500.
The efficiency of the fire department is increased by receiving alarms promptly and the citizens are urged to interest them- selves and thereby avoid needless delays.
BOARD OF ENGINEERS. E. H. BAILEY, Clerk.
REPORT OF FOREST FIRE WARDS.
We again report numerous small fires, due in many cases to the carelessness of parties in not extinguishing the remains of bon-fires. Ten or more fires were caused by sparks from loco- motives.
The extinguishers have been inspected, and are in good order.
We advise locating a fire wagon at Ashdod and one on Elm street, providing parties may be found willing to house them.
We have placed at Crooked Lane a fire wagon, which makes
-46-
four now owned and equipped by the town, besides two private ones.
The cost of extinguishing the forest fires on Franklin street and near Osgood's ( district No. ? ) was one hundred and twenty- five dollars.
We call the citizens' attention to the following, Sec. 24, Chap. 32, revised laws of Massachusetts :
In a town which accepts the provisions of this section or has accepted the corresponding provisions of earlier laws, no fire shall be set in the open air between the first day of April and the first day of October, unless by the written permission of a forest fire ward. The fire ward shall cause public notice to be given of the provisions of this section, and shall enforce same. Whoever violates the provisions of this section shall be punished by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars, to be divided equally between the complainant and the town, or by imprison- ment for not more than one month, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
To meet the expense required in the purchasing and equipping two fire wagons, and the necessary supplies for this department, we ask for an appropriation of $:00.
FOREST FIRE WARDS. E. H. BAILEY, Clerk

At an adjourned Town Meeting, held April 24th, 190%, it was . FOR THE SHELVES OF OUR PUBLIC LIBRARY.
An effort has been made to collect a complete set of Town Reports since the first printed report of 1853. Also school re- ports, which for a time were printed in a separate pamphlet.
The reports called for are those of any year previous to 1859, and 1860, 1862, 1865, 1866, 1867, 1868, 1871, 1876.
Any one having these in his possession and willing to contri- bute the same for this purpose, is requested to hand them to the librarian, Sara B. Higgins.
REPORT OF CEMETERY TRUSTEES.
This year we have been over and cut out the dead wood and trimmed all the trees at an expense of about seventy dollars, opened out some of the avenues in the new part in addition to the regular work. At Standish cemetery there has been built a new fence in front, and we believe the property in our charge has been kept in a satisfactory manner at all times. We would ask for the same appropriation as received last year, six hundred dollars.
Interments in Mayflower Cemetery, 41; interments in Ash- dod Cemetery, 4.
The Treasurer's report is herewith submitted.
Respectfully, ELISHA PETERSON,
Secretary.
