The valuation at the Town Farm shows a loss as compared with last year, and comes from several causes. Among which is the loss in hay by the dry weather of last summer, making it necessary to use more grain, also the loss of one of the best cows by milk fever last spring, and the abortion of several others during the season, and the general depreciation of the farming implements. The question of carrying on the milk business at the Town Farm will be referred to your consideration at the annual meeting. The low price of milk compared with the cost of production and the required change of two cows at least, to keep up the usual quantity of milk, makes the condition of more than ordinary importance. To fill the requirements of the Milk Inspector of Fall River, a milk house must be constructed, in which to strain and keep the milk.
24
ANNUAL REPORT.
Mr. Brightman has expended for the fiscal year ending Feb. 14, 1900, the sum of $935.10, and has received for milk, strawberries, potatoes, &c., sold $911.41, leaving a balance against the town of $23.69.
The following persons are at the Town Farm: Andrew Caswell, who is considerable help in the field, and Mary D. Deane, since May 7, 1899, whose mind is clouded and is a constant care.
The " Weary Willies " speak well of our new tramp house, and as many as five at a time have used it, but the better times have reduced the annual number to 121 for the past year.
AID OUTSIDE OF ALMSHOUSE AT PRESENT TIME.
Fred H. French at Taunton Insane hospital. per week, $3.25, of which the State pays one-half. Mary L. Wilbur, per week, $1.50. Mrs. Jason Pittsley, per week, $1.50. Lydia Seekell, per week, $1.50. Rose Sylvester and two children, per week, $2.50, and Cordelia Macomber, per week, $1.00. Elias Macomber, $1.00 per week, which is repaid by the State.

GUIDEBOARDS.
Nearly all of our guideboards will have to be painted during the next year, and two or three have been made to replace some which have been destroyed by malicious persons are nearly ready to be put in position.
BERKLEY AND DIGHTON BRIDGE.
The iron work of this bridge received two coats of paint last June, at a cost of $275.00.
There have been two accidents in passing through the draw this winter, breaking some of the piles and planking. The matter in one case in process of adjust- ment and we trust will be settled amicably. Estimated cost of repairs #200. Salary of draw-tender $200. Berk- ley's part 3-10 of that sum.
FINANCIAL CONDITION.
Your board would recommend that steps be taken to gradually reduce our floating indebtedness by bonding the same, to be paid in three or four years, or within such time as the Town at the Annual Meeting may determine, and by assessing and paying a note each year, wipe out the debt. .
Closing our report we would respectfully call your attention to the inequalities in the valuation of the real estate in Town, and think that steps should to be taken to make our taxes more equitable and in accordance with the real value of the property assessed.
CALVIN T. CRANE, Selectmen

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES OF THE
PUBLIC LIBRARY.
At the close of the year, we have 806 volumes in the library for circulation. This does not include State Doc- uments and many others that are sent us from time to time.
We are pleased to report a few small donations from some of our citizens :
Books, as usual, from Capt. Heury Haines. Levi L. Crane, Esq., contributed quite a number of McClure's Magazines, and Mrs. Margaret Crane, a lot of Munsey's. All these are very acceptable, and the trustees wish that more of our liberal minded citizens would respond to the call. Of the $75 taken from the dog fund as voted by the town, $48.48 was expended for books and $25 for the sal- ary of the librarian. At the beginning of the year $4.73 was remaining in the hands of the librarian, $1.54 was collected for fines, and of this amount $2.46 was expend- ed for "Christian Herald," and express on pictures for ex- hibition, leaving $3.81 in her hands at present.
Respectfully submitted,
W. H. S. CRANE, Trustees JOSEPH HOWLAND, Public CHARLES W. COOK, Library.
