" BABYLON, Nov. 5, 1901 .- Thomas J. Duryea, a well-known and respected resident of this section, died yesterday at the home of his son-in-law, Jesse S. Smith, on Lower Carll Avenue, from a complication of disorders, after a long and severe illness. The deceased was a native of Dix Hills, but the major portion of his life was spent in Islip, where he pursued the avocation of a carpenter and builder. For a time he conducted a farm north of Hauppauge. He removed to Amityville a decade or more ago and later came to Babylon, where he has since resided. He was a quiet man, of simple tastes and strict integrity."
