Hansen and Jannetje Remsen; wife Harmpye; said by Bergen to have married Sep. 12, 1713, Hilletje Andriese, dau. of Andries Janse of Flatlands. Hilletje was present at the baptism of all the children. Jan. 1, 1714, he buys meadow land at East Neck of Jonathan Mills and joining the land of John Hanson (Bergen) (Ja. Town Records, L. C. F., 50). Feb. 18, 1717/18, Ja. Town Records mention him as Peter Nostrand of Springfield, alias Garretson. Will dated Sep. 22, 1747 ; proved Oct. 24, 1747; does not mention the last son (R. L. 16, F., 212, N. Y.). His brother Rem was one of the witnesses. His two sons, Garret and Peter, were his executors, and they sold part of the land in Springfield to Stephen Johnson of O. B., Nov. 24, 1747 (Ja. PETER NOSTRAND, son of Daniel and Maretye -, bp. May 29, 1724, in Flatlands; m., Jan. 10, 1751/2, in Huntington, Elizabeth Ammerman. They were both living on Apl. 21, 1775, being present as witnesses at a bp. in W. H. Apl. 11, 1784, he was one of the exs. of Yost Snediker. Date of death not found. He was a weaver by trade and wove the bed-spreads found in so many old families. Was the captain of the Oyster Bay Militia Co., and was among the first in the field at the outbreaking of the Revolutionary War (see Onderdonck's Queen's Co. during the Revolution). The three sons bought farms adjoining on the highway about a mile southeast of Farmingdale.

Nov. 30, 1775. Samuel Nostrand and Isaac Loosie, of Hunt- ington, were at John Nostrand's, Hempstead, who said there was a great quantity of powder at Captain Richard Hewlett's, Rock- away, and he mounted guard over it the night before.


Samuel Nostran was an enlisted man in Col. Josiah Smith's regiment of militia, Suffolk Co., Capt. John Wicke's Company. About 1782 he was assessed on property in Hn. valued at £46.

SYMON HANSEN (NOORTSTRANT), of Flatbush, son of Hans Jansen, emigrated with his father in 1639 (His. New Netherlands, vol. i., pp. 433, 441); m., Oct. 24, 1663, Maria Frederica, of The Hague, and widow of Jan Joris Symons; the witness to the m. was Hans Hansen (Symon's father). Sep. 30, 1663, he was a witness at a bp. in Kingston of a son of Jurian Westvall and Marritjen Hansen (his sister). 1669, he brought suit against Peter Jacobse or Jacobsen. Oct. 31, 1671, he accounted as one of the administrators of Barent Jansen. Aug. 25, 1674, he, as one of the guardians of the children of Barent Jansen, sold a farm to Derick Janse Woertman. Sep. 20, 1676, was on the assessment roll for 14 morgen of land and valley at Middlewout (Flatbush). Feb. 5, 1677/8, he sold his bouwery in Flatbush to Hendrick Reycke Suydam for 3300 guilders ($1373.62). Mch. 28, 1677, his name appears in the patent for a part of Flatbush. June 19, 1677, was one of a sworn jury at a court of sessions at Gravesend. Mch. 15, 1678/9, he sold 195 acres in New Lots, comprising wood lots Nos. 30 and 31 and other land, to Cornelis Pieterse Wyckoff for 3600 guilders. Apl. 2, 1680, was the owner of two lots in the New Lots of Flatbush. Sep., 1687, he took the oath of allegiance in "fflackbush" as having been in this country 48 years. 1695, he bought a horse of Cornelis Baewutsse. 1698, was on the census of Flatbush as I man, I woman, 2 chil- dren, I apprentice; signed his name Symen Hanssen.
