"At the annual meeting of the Board of Directors of the Glen Cove Mutual Insurance Co., it was unanimously Resolved, That the Directors of the Glen Cove Mutual Insurance Company have heard, with sincere regret, of the death of their highly esteemed Associate, Mr. Peter Luyster, and that they deeply sympathise with his afflicted family in their sudden and irrepar- able bereavement:

"GLEN COVE INS. OFFICE, " 4th Mo. (April) 1856."
"Mr. Luyster, for more than thirteen years past, had been a member of the Reformed Dutch Church of Oyster Bay, L. I., and witnessed a good profession by a conscientious and Christian life. During the last three years he had suffered much from disease, but was able for the most part to attend regularly upon the ministrations of the sanctuary. The end was not expected so soon by his family or friends, though he himself had expressed the conviction that it was near. It came at last suddenly- suddenly to us, but, we trust, it found him not unprepared. Though it left no time for the expression of his faith and hope in the dying hour, he had previously declared his readiness to depart, his entire resignation to the will of the Master. We sympathize sincerely with the afflicted family, for we too have lost a father in the Church, a brother in Christ Jesus. Yet we mourn not as those who cannot be comforted, for he is not lost, he has only gone before.

"There is no Death! what seems so is transition; This life of Mortal breath Is but a suburb of the life elysian, Whose portal we call Death.

"A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled; A place is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled.

"Naturally cheerful in his disposition, kind and associate, and dutiful as a son, he had secured the esteem and friendship of all who knew him, tenderly beloved by his parents, he was the object of their most ardent hopes, and fondly did they cherish the anticipations that he would long be spared to be a comfort to them in their declining years.
"But insatiable death, which respects not age nor person, had marked him for his victim, and quickly bore him to the lone and silent grave."

"On Aug. 24, 1895, the writer visited the old burying ground of the Luyster family at Bowery Bay Beach.
"When the burying place was first located, it was probably done by the emigrant Peter. A roller coaster was found in course of erection about fifty feet from the last resting-place of these old people, a road or pony track had been cut through it.
"It seems a pity that such an old 'landmark' should be oblit- erated, but the writer has since been informed that the stones have been all carted away; and to use an old-time expression, 'body and bones' have all been removed.
