HANS JANSEN, from Noortstrant, emigrated to this country about 1639 with a family of children. June 25, 1639, Hans Jansen of Rotterdam gave a note to Cornelis Volckertsen for 32 Carolus guilders. If his first wife came with him, she probably died soon after, as he had a child baptized in the Dutch Church in N. Y., Dec. 8, 1641, and the mother was not present. Hans Janszen Van Noortstrant married, Nov. 29, 1652, Janneken Ger- rits Van Loon. Recorded with the record of marriage is this: "Op't Sandt in de Mayerje Van de Bosch" ("Province of the Woods"). The witnesses to the above baptism were: Laurens Pietersze Noorman, Janneken Molyn, Styntje Jans. He was called sometimes "Hans Jansen" and at other times "Hans Hansen." Hans Jansen would seem to be his correct name, as that is the name attached to his will. From the record he seems to have brought one daughter with him, for on May 23, 1644, Hans Jansen, father and guardian of Marritje Hans, his daugh- ter, acknowledges to have bound his above named daughter to Philip Garritsen, tavern-keeper, for the term of three consecu- tive years, beginning on New Years', 1645, ending on New Year's, 1648, to serve in the family and to be provided and cared for as his own child, and to be taught sewing.
July 22, 1647. "Barent Jansen from Ocholm aged about 36 years and Hans Jansen from Noordstrant testefy and declair that it is true, that they in the year 1643 at the beginning of the war, had asked Cornelis Melyns consent to take off from Long Island, maize belonging to the Indians. Thereupon, Melyn said, if you will do so ye may do so, but charged them not to take away any maize if Indians were there. They the affiants, with somne soldiers, sailed across, observed Indians and did not take

any maize themselves, but think the soldiers took a small pouch of it in their canoe."
Oct. 24, 1663. He was a witness at the marriage of his son Symon in Brooklyn.
In 1675 and 1676 he was taxed on 17 morgen of land at. Amsfortt (Flatlands). Name, Hans Janssen. In 1687 he took the oath of allegiance in Flatlands and as having been 47 years in this country.
Oct. 18, 1690, Peter, Gerrit, and Jan Hansen were required to show cause for selling the estate of Hans Hansen deceased, with- out administering thereon.
Jan. 19, 1690/91. " Whereas, Hans Hansen late of Amersfoort in Kings Co., decsd had in his life time, goods and chattles, and Capt. Jan Hansen his eldest son desires Letters of Administration, They are granted."
