Mch. 2, 1654, suit was brought against him, but he was in default. Feb. 28, 1656, suit was brought against him regarding a canoe he had purchased from the Indians ("Court Records of N. A."). June, 1672, a receipt was given to William Gerretsen for the sum of 386 guilders due by Peter Montfoort, his late father-in-law, to the West India Co.

PETER MONFOORT, of " ye Township of Redding," son of Jan (John) and Ida Brinckerhoff, m. Margaret Haff, dau. of Lau- rence and Kinertje Meet.
He and his wife, Margaret, from Gt. Neck, bo't a farm of 206 acres for £251. 10. in Little Plains, Oct. 16, 1714, from J. Springer, and sold it May 18, 1723, for £437 to his cousin Jacobus. Jan. 17, 1737, he conveyed { part of the farm on Gt. Neck, 222 acres, belonging to John Monfoort, deceased. Is mentioned in the deed as " Peter Monfort of ye Township of Redding, in ye county of Hunterdon, N. J., yeoman, and Margaret, his wife."
In 1733 they were received as members at Redding on cer- tificate. Was Elected elder in 1733, '41, '48, '51, '58, '62, '67. He m. (2ª) (see will). His will dated May 31, 1771; proved June 7, 1780 (R. L. 22, F., 142, Trenton). The inventory of his estate amounted to £3536. 4. 8.
