Note -- Rev. William Wirt Phillips had for many years prior to and dur- ing the Civil War a summer home. This residence and plantation was io- cated on the Oid Post road, and was just east of the Parsonage Farm (formerly Jasper Smith.) It consist- ed of some 240 acres, iying on both sides of the road. Rev. Dr. Phillips purchased the same March 31, 1837. Title came through severai mesne deeds from Hon. Benjamin Van Cieve. (Lee's Hist. Mercer Co., N. J. Voi. 1, page 79.)

The First Presbyterian Church In the City of New York- My dear Mr. Furman:

Your letter addressed to the Union Theological Seminary was forward- ed to me to supply the information you-are seeking.

I am enclosing the information on a separate sheet.

May I direct your attention to the fact that Dr. Phillips was pastor of the Pearl Street Presbyterian Phillips 2

Church, New York, known also as the Second Associate Reformed Church of Pearl Street, when he was called to become the pastor of the Wall Street Presbyterian Church in 1826. In looking up the baptismal records which you seek I find this entry:

William J. Symington born April 12, 1819.

Aibert Henry born June 2, 1820. John Mason born Dec. 5, 1821.

Anna Frances born Oct. 17, 1823. Cornelius Howard born June 22, 1825

All children of W. W. and F. Phil- iips having been baptized In the Second Associate Reformed Church, Pearl Street.

This entry is made under date of September, 1836. I do not know if they were re-baptized at that time, or that Dr. Phillips wished to have their names recorded with the oth- ers of the family.

First Church moved to Fifth Av- enue, 11th and 12th Streets, in 1846 and Dr. Phillips continued as pas- tor until his death in 1865.

No members of his immediate family survive. Just a few weeks ago one who had served'In his fam- lly as a nurse to the grandchildren died and left to First Church a pic- ture of Dr. Phillips. It is a water color and in excellent preservation. It may be that you would be inter- ested In seeing it some time.

Very truly yours,

Fiorence P. Weiss, Church Secretary. (To be continued)

COLLINS

Who were the parents of Elijah Collins, Revolutionary War soldier from Virginia ?

Family history says that he joined the army when a boy of eighteen and served for eight years. He was married some time during the war. What was the name of his wife? His 1828. parents lived in the Shenandoah Vai- iey. I understand that they came from Ireiand to America. It is possi- ble that Elijah Coiiins was born in Ireiand.

This Elijah Collins was living in Holmes county, Monroe township in 1830. Later he lived with his son, John R. Coliins, in Morgan county, Ohio. I think this must have been about 1840-45.

The names of two of Elijah Col- iins children were: John R. Collins and Phoebe Collins Ladd. Did he have other children ?

Is Elijah Coliins related to the

Revolutionary War soidier, Shep- herd Coilins, who lived in Athens County, Ohio. He served in the Con- tinentai iine and received a pension. He lived in Athens, Ohio about the same time that Elijah Collins was living in Morgan county, Ohio. Eli- jah Coilins had a grandson named Shepherd Collins. Perhaps this might indicate some relationship be- tween the two families.

I would like proof that the Elijah Collins in Ohio is the same Elijah Collins that served in Captain John Hoider's Company of Kentucky county militia in 1778. Also the same man as the Elijah Collins who served with Coi. John Bowman's ompany of Kentucky county militia. loth of these militia companies served at and near Boonesborough and Lexington, Ky. in 1778.

I am very anxious to hear from anyone who is interested in this family of Collins. I will appreciate any information concerning the fam- iiy.

. For information concerning the lof numbers of the Town of Broadalbin, Montgomery County, now Fulton; might I suggest that you consult Da- vid Burr's map of Montgomery Coun-' ty, 1829. I find a lot No. 5 that seems to be of about the acreage you ; state on the old road from Broadal- bin to the Fish House. This road seems to bisect that lot. For the Patent you might try scanning the Sauthier map, found in the rear of volume 1 of the Documentary History of the State of New York. i There is another map in Vol. 4 that might give you clues. Interesting historical background concerning the town of Broadalbin can be found in the Spafford Gazetteers of N. Y., 1813 and 1824 issues.
