( Schermerhorn Genealogy is given as Jannetie Egmont. Did she have a sis- ter, Lysbeth, who in the "Van Buren Family" by Peckham, is mentioned as the daughter of Claas Cornelis Segers Van Voorhoudt and married Gysbet Cornelissen Van Den Bergh ?

Some people claim that Schermer- horn descendants can claim royal an- cestry thru the Egmont family. Has this ever been proved or disproved ? Who were the parents of Bregje Jacobson, who married Jacob Janse Schermerhorn? Did she have rela- tives in America ?

My Dear Iverson:

Word has come out of Washngton that we must eceonomize on paper -- even tho the bureaucrats are squand- erng tons of it-thousands of ton in wasteful propaganda.

Nevertheless I am forced to beg of you an extra copy of your May 6, '43 supplement. It has an article I am scrapping on both sides. Then, too I want to put in my files the article on the Indian collection-one of the very few such in any public library. I've been waiting for months for this ac- count. There ought to be a public Hartley Memorial meeting-as soon as it can be held-emphasizing the work of Robt. M. Hartley and openly acknowledging the gift of Mrs. R. M. Hartley and. the donor of the cases, A brochure ought to be published that would name and define the var- ious items-with photos of R. Some years later he sold two pieces of land in Broadalbin, but how or when he acquired them I do not know. He lived some years at Bridgewater, but as nearly as I can tell did not own land in Onelda Co. Anxious to know exact dates and places, church membership and so forth.

His eldestdaughter, Mary, married Shaler Fyler. Anxious to know when and where married, where lived and when, where children (Sheldon Hul- burt, Roman, and Mary) were born, where lived, whom married and when, also their children.

Is it possible that William Hulburt who may bave been Phillip's father, came at the same time or earlier, to what is now Montgomery county.

BOGART-BOGARDUS

Genealogy alwas has had, and per- haps always will, have "problems." I noticed the "Anneke Jans Bogar- dus" one in a recent Issue, and am taking time off to send a few notes. Collection of the "History of Al- bany," Vol IV, Albany, N. Y. J. Mun- sell, 82 State St., 1871. Preface "the result of long and patient re- search by Prof. Jonathan Pearson, of Union College!"

This celebrated character came to Rensselearwick in 1630 with her husband Roeloff Jansen who acted as assistant bouweester for the Patroon at. a salary of 180 guilders. Five or six years after, the family was found at New Amsterdam, where Roeloff received a patent in 1636, for 31 morggans (62) acres of land lying along the East River between the present (1871) Warren and Christ- opher streets.

About this time he died and in the year 1637 or 1637 hls widow married Domine Everhardus Bogardus of Bo- gart (note by ASB-Bogarhus Is the Latinized form of Bogart assumed by Domine Everhardus) thè first settled minister in New Netherlands. . Gentlemen: Ths gives a correct and accepted story up tothe third gen- eration of the Anneke Jans Bogardus line. Prof. Pearson was undoubtedly the finest Dutch genealogist of his' day. If you wish something on the Webber line, I also have notes on that, which appeared in the Boston Transcript several years ago, and which were complimented by several well known figures in the then gene- alogical fleld.

BOGARDUS-WEBBER

I want to thank Annie Scott Bax- ter for giving us so much of the "An- neke Jans Bogardus" History. (I have always been led to believe her maiden name was Weber.) and I wish Annie Scott Baxter had given the date that "Anneke Jans" deeded the land where Trinity Church stands in New York City. It was deeded for 99 years. I am always interested in all I can find in the genealogy papers. And I shall be looking for what Annie Scott Baxter can tell us of the Webbers. For my grandmother Rosbrook was Prudence Webber. Her father Ruben Webber, her grandfather Henry Webber, her great-grandfather Trenance Webber.

CRANE

Wanted data of Moses Crane born probably in New Jersey about 1750-5. His oldest son, Stephen was born in Poughkeepsie, N. Y. 1775. Family moved to Edinburg, Saratoga county, N. Y. Had a daughter Jane born 1777 and two other daughters.

Stephen married Elsa Grinneli and Jane married Isaiah Grinnell, chiid- sen.

ren of Amasa Grinnell of Edinburg.

Moses, after the death of his wife about 1790, returned to New Jersey to preach.

Crane Genealogy belives Moses to have been a descendant of Jasper Crane, one of the early settlers of Newark, N. J.

Would also like the name of wife of Amasa Grinnell. Amasa was al Revolutionary soldier, born in Say- brook, Conn., eniisted from Salis- bury, Conn. in Connecticut Line. He received a pension in 1818 while liv- ing in Galway, Saratoga Co., N. Y.

Would like data of Elam Clark, born in the Town of Shaftsbury, Vt., July 27, 1791. He removed to Scott, Cortland county, N. Y. about 1810. Died there and is buried in Homer, N. Y. cemetery. Eiam married Tarrecia Clark ,or Richardson.) He named his sons Elisha, Saimon and Dwight.

VAN VOORHOUDT, VAN EGMONT, SCHERMERHORN

In answer to Mrs, B. H. Hadier's request for information on the Van Voorhoudt, Van Egmont and Scher- merhorn families, in. May 27th issue of the Enterprise and News. For- tunately I bave extensive notes on this line, collected by my father, Kebert Furman, M. D., (New York, N. Y.)

Cornelius Segertse Van Egmont (Alias van Vcornoudt, Segertse, etc.) was born about 1599; made will No- vember 27, 1662, living 1667; married to Bregje Jarolsen, born 1598 (in 1644 she was 45 years of age); died April, 1667.

Cornelius came to America from Voorhout, Holland in Sept., 1643, with his wife. Brechje Jacobsen, and lo- cated at Albany, N .. Y. Some of his descendants adopted the name of Egmont, while othere used that of Segers. Attempts, eo far unsuccess- ful, have been made to connect thie family with the Counts of Egmont, most prominent of whom was Lamoral, Count of Egmont, who was one of the leaders in the Dutch re- sistance of Philip II, and whose ex- ecution was a prelude to the revolt of the Netherlands.

* .

Cornelis Segerse van Egmont made a contract with Patroon Kiliaen van Rensselaer August 25, 1643, and sailed from Amsterdam in September, 1643, on "the Wapen van Rensse- laerwyck" with bis wife and child- ren. On his arrival in the colony of Rensselaerswyck, he took up a farm formerly occupied by Brant Peelen, on Castle Island, near Albany (oppo- site Bethlehem, Albany County.) In 1644 his rent consisted of 276 schepels of wheat and $20 echepels of oats,

1663, Cornelis and his wife made a joint will, she being indisposed, and mentioned the following children, all iiving save Claas.

I. Cornelis Cornelise van Egmont, born 1621 married Catalyntje Franz who died 1690-1, in New York. Sbe was widow in March, 1669 when she marrie in New York Dirck Teunis-

II. Claes Cornelise Van Egmont, born 1623, died before Nov. 22, 1662, married Oct. 17, 1649, New York to Brechie Maryns Vander Veere, daughter of Maryn Adriaensen and Lysbet (Thyssen-Tyssen) Vander

Veer. She married second Jan Tyssz Goes, and died before Feb. 1, 1663.

Their daughter Tryntje Claes van Egmont born 1658 married 1st Elias Van Guysiing; (my own ancestor), married 2nd April 13, 1695, in Al- bany, N. Y. William Haal (Hall) both living at Schenectady. Pearson states that Tryntje Claese, wife of Elias van Guysling was born in 1643. This is incorrect and refers to another Tryntje Claese (Catryn Claasz, wife of Jacob Teunisz and deceased in

1696.)

III. Lysbeth van Egmont, born 1627 married 1st Bysbert Cornelise van Weesp; married 2nd Francis Boon. The last named married Fran- cois Boon, without her parents' con-

sent and was disinherited, having the Emporer Charles the fifth, and been left by will only 1 lb., Flemish.

IV. Segers Cornelise van Egmont married Jannetje Teunise van Vech- ten. He died June 24, 1662 of a knife wound inflicted the day before at the tavern cf Anchonis Jansz, in Albany, by Andries Herbertsz Con- stapel, whom he had severely wound- ed in the bead with a piece of wood.

V. Jannetie Cornelise van Egmont, born 1632, died 1700 married Feb. 20, 1650 in New Amsterdam, Jacob Janse Schermerhorn born 1622, died May 26, 1688. (his wiff), son of Jan. Res: Schenectady, N. Y.

VI. Neeltje Cornelise van Egmont born 1635, died before April 1670, married Hans Carelse Toll.

If there is any proof of Royal de- Ecent or any pre-American connec-

Want also data of his parents, tions of the van Egmont family of Charles Price and Phebe. The latter

Cornelius Segertse van Egmont have been established so far, I have not seen them and would be interested to know what they are.

OLDHAM

Seeing a copy of your interesting paper and noting your interest in genealogical and bistoric facts, I make bold to ask your cooperation. I www. to obtain information of families in the Mohawk Valley who have during the past century taken up their homes in North Carolina. I especially ask for any data concern- ing the Oldham family who may have come into the valley from Pennsyl- vania or New England and thence nioved southward.

Edward A. Oldham,

mers of consequence in Rensselaer- wyck, nearly all the others at this time being fur traders. He owned the entire Castle Island, near Al- bany. In 1651 an inventory of the farm of Cornelius Sergerse showed that he was the owner of 22 horses and 13 cows and that the farm con- tainer 70 morgens (140 acres) and the rent was 1210 guilders. This farm was called Weelysburg. He also owned a house and lot in Albany. It is most probable that though Cornelius came direct from Voorhout to this country, he belonged to the original family of Egmont of Holiand, from which the town of Egmont takes its name. Voorhout is a. small place near Leyden, about 20 miles southwest cf Ainsterdam. Egmont is about 20 miles northwest of Amster- dam.

The family of Egmont, prominent in Holland in the eleventh century, - traced their descent from the Pagan Kings. Their Chateau was on the! North Sea, about three miles west of Alkmaar and from 1423 to 1558, they were at the height of their power. probably made three other marriages, to a Lindsley, a Dickerson, a Cumi- saw.

The family was divided into several branches and had in it nine Knights of the Golden Fleece.

.

Preeminent among all of the Eg- monts was Lamorai, Count of Eg- mont, prince of Gavre, "one of the most brilliant characters in history," as one historian records. He was born in the castle of La Hainaide, in Hainault Nov. 18, 1522. In 1542 at the death of his brother Carl, he suc- ceeded to the titles and estates of the family which besides those of the principality of Gavre comprised sev- en Baronie3 and a number of seignir- ies
