10I --- ZIMMERMAN

I am writing to you relative to in- formation regarding my ancestor John George Zimmerman and wife Maria Salome born about 1740. The earliest church record which I have concerning them is at Mertz Church, Rockland Twp., Berks County, Pa., when their son John George Zimmer- man, Jr. was bp. Feb. 10, 1764. John Geo. Zimmerman, Jr. and Susanna Marg. Strickler were married in Christ Church Tulpehocken on July 5, 1783.

Recently while looking through some issue of the St. Johnsville En- terprise in our local Historical So- ciety, I find under issue of Jan. 27, 1932, Gov. Hunter's Ration Lists of Palatine Heads of Families, listed a John Jacob Zimmerman. I believe that this man was probably the an- cestor of the first J. George Zim- merman above mentioned. However in the article concerning the Exodus from Schoharie to Tulpehocken in 1723-29, I did not find the Zimmer- man family listed among the fami- lies. (Issues Aug. 9 and 16, 1933.)

A member of our family owns the baptismal certificate of my gr. gr. grandmother Salome Zimmerman, born 1794 (daughter of J. Geo. Z., Jr.) and the place of baptism was given as Heildelburg Twp., Dauphin Co., Pa., although her parents were said to have migrated to Monroe Co., Pa. from Maxatawny in Tulpehock- en, Berks Co., Pa. in 1800. -

After reading your various art !- cles on the Schoharie families I feel that this Zimmerman family came from there, rather than from the Zimmerman family (Henry Zimmer- man) who settled in Germantown about 1700 and later came to Mont- gomery Co. and other nearby coun- ties.

I shall be deeply grateful to you if you'can solve my problem for me, or perhaps refer my letter to some one who can assist me.

108- SEGERS, EGMONT, VAN DEN BERGH

I have understood that Gysbert Van Den Bergh married Lysbeth, daughter of Claas Cornelius Segers Van Voorhoudt.

An article published some weeks ago in the Enterprise and News by. Miss Consuelo Furman of New York City writes that Lysbeth Van Eg- mont, daughter of Cornelius Cor- nelise Van Egmont married first Gysbert Cornelise Van Weesp, mar- ried second Francis Boon.

I find an article by Richard Schermerhorn, Jr. in Vol. 46 "New York Genealogical and Biographic Record on the Segers Egmont fami- ly. Mr. Schermerhorn writes that Gysbert Cornelise Van Weesp, first husband of Lysbeth, daughter of Cornelise Segers Ekmont was in Am- stendam as early as June, 1639 and in 1641 was in Rensselafwyck. He was also called Gysbert "Op de Berg" from the fact of his having a farm called the "Hooge Berg"" situ- ated on the east side of the Hudson river a little below Albany.

He was also referred to as Gysbert Cornelise "Waert""' (Tavern keeper) and his name is also found expressed as Gysbert Cornelise Ouverkerk. He died between Oct. 25, 1653 and Au- gust 22, 1654.

Page 1110, Vol. 3 "Hudson and Mohawk Valley Families" by Cuyler. Reynolds. I find Gysbert Cornelise Van Den Bergh called also Van We- sep arrived in Colony Rensselaer- wyck in 1645 and lived on a farm called "High Bergh" lying on the east side of the Hudson. He mar- ried Lysbeth, daughter of Claas Cor- nelise Van Voorhoudt in 1662. He bought, a house, barn, etc. lying this side of Bethlehem" of Martin Cor- nelise Van Buren.

1. Willem married Catryna, daugh- ter of Wyant Van der Poel. 2. Cornelis Gysbertse married Cor- nelia Wyanantse van der Poel.

The Knapp Family Association of In the October issue of the Knapp Family Association of America Bul- letin appears a tribute to the late Ezra Fred Knapp, the Association genealogist, by Dr. A. A. Knapp.

Mr. Ezra Fred Knapp has been ac- cumulating data with untiring indus- try and energy. He had accumulated a great storehouse of names, facts and figures. Before his death he had typed his findings in the first eight generations of the Nicholas lines comprising more than 5200 names which will serve as a substantial foundation upon which to build a complete genealogy of that line. He has made a great contribution to genealogical knowledge which will be appreciated more and more as time goes on.
