The manufacturing interests are among the best in this section of the State, and will in time be taken advantage of. The Oro- ville Flour mill is run by water- power and turns out flour of the best quality. There are good schools and several churches. The United States Hotel, kept by the well-known competent and genial L. W. Hoops, assisted by attentive clerks, is a most desirable house to stop at for a short or long time.

east bank of the Feather River, twenty-eight miles north of Marysville, with which place it is connected by the California Northern Railroad. It draws trade from the two industries of mining and agriculture-the eastern portion of the county paying tribute in the golden treasures of the quartz ledge and the gravel bed, while the west pours in her wealth of grain and fruit. It is the point from which stages and freight wagons leave for all parts of the mountains, and the trade of the various sec- tions thus tapped renders the town a continual scene of bustle and enterprise. Her merchants and farmers are all transacting a profitable business, and thor- oughly believe in the future of the entire section in which Oro- ville is located.
