Marysville,
the California Northern Railroad, from Marysville to Oroville, twenty-nine miles, gives accom- The metropolis of northern California, is the market and dis- tributing point for all that vast section. and . possessing many natural advantages as a com- mercial center. Its river and rail- road facilities make it most eli- gible. Marysville is the county seat of Yuba County, and has a population of about 5,000, being the largest town north of Sacra- mento in the State, and thel central point for a large and highly productive agricultural district, also drawing a large trade from the rich mining towns of the Sierra Nevada. It is favorably situated for commer- cial purposes, being at the junc- tion of the Yuba and Feather Rivers, both of which have been navigable streams; and it is thought by the citizens of Marys- ville that when the hydraulic mining shall have ceased, an appropriation will be made by Congress to clean out the beds of both rivers, so as to make them again navigable. There is no doubt but the day is not long distant when Marysville will have a boom second to any- thing on record, and we hon- estly believe that there is no grander place in the United States for speculation than that of Marysville. Real estate at present can be bought very cheap, and it would be well for parties wanting to invest their money to first give Marysville a call. The railroads at present are the California and Oregon, which passes through the city, crossing modations to the mining regions of Butte, Sierra, and Plumnas Counties, and brings their trade to Marysville. From its earliest period, Marysville has been an important center for staging, and although the railroads have transferred the travel, the busi- ness is stilllarge. Messrs. Lowrey & Nelson have splendidly equip- ped stages running to Colusa, Smartsville, and all important inland towns in this section of the State. The streets of the city are broad and roomy, and a more beautifully laid-out city does not exist. The city in former years was once or twice over-flooded, and caused considerable damage, but now Marysville is sur- rounded with water-proof levees. and there never will be another flood here. Marysville has a reputation of having the sound- est business firms, financially, on the coast outside of San Fran- cisco. Among some, we note the banks. The bank of Decker & Jewett began business under the firm name of Cunningham & Brumagim in a zinc house on C Street, between Third and Fourth, being the first bank in the city. They subsequently moved to D Street, between First and Second. In 1856 Cunning- ham & Brumagim dissolved partnership, Mr. Brumagim continuing under the style of Mark Brumagim & Co, and transacting an immense business. In eight years, from 1855 to 1862 inclusive, Mark Brumagim & Co. the river on a fine bridge; and shipped gold-dust to the value of
