Tehama.
It is situated on the westerly bank of the Sacramento River, distance 123 miles by rail from Sacramento. The Central Pa- cific Railroad skirts the northern end of the town, and subserves the purpose of a levee, it having on several occasions saved the town from inundation when the river had overflowed its banks above this point. The popula- tion of Tehama is about 400. Two schools are maintained, an
intermediate and grammar com- bined, and a primary. Church and fraternal society privileges are ample. Two public halls serve for varied entertainments. There are two large grain ware- houses. Immediately opposite Tehama is located the large flouring establishment of Ellis & Son, run by water-power furnished from Mill Creek. The hotel accommodations of the town are good, there being ho- tels to suit all classes of trav- elers. 3 53
