Situated on the Northern Railroad, 20 miles south of Co- lusa and 114 miles from San Francisco. A large and con- stantly increasing business is done at this point, and building of all kinds is brisk and new stores are being started to ac- commodate it. The soil in the vicinity of Arbuckle is of the most productive in the valley, and yields largely when other parts experience almost a total failure. We are obligated to Mr. T. R. Arbuckle, postmaster anda pioneer of the town, and for whom the place was named, for his valuable assistance in our work. This . gentleman will cheerfully accord information about Colusa County to those desiring it.

Colusa.
The county seat of Colusa County. Population, 2,500. Sit- uatedon the west bank of the Sac. ramento River, about ninety miles from Sacramento. It has connection by stage with the Northern Railroad at Williams, ten miles distant, also with Max- well, twelve miles distant. The steamers of the Sacramento Transportation Company make frequent trips. The town was laid out in 1850, and has pros- pered steadily ever since. It is surrounded by very fertile agri important point. A line would
culturalland, anditis the center of the largest grain-growing dis- trict in the valley. The land hereabouts is generally farmed in large tracts, but it is well cared for. Nearly every acre of it is productive. It may be im- agined, with some reason, that Colusa is a very important shipping point, and that a vast capital is represented there. Transactions up in the hundreds of thousands are of frequent oc- currence. It is a matter of great surprise that a branch railroad has not been projected to this
