Major projects in the physical plant improvement program follows:


Balch School

2. Landing and steps north side of building replaced with concrete platforms, and ornamental safety hand rails installed.


Shattuck and Winslow Schools


1. Boys lavatory areas renovated with glaze finish to walls and ceil- ings; new porcelain toilet and sink fixtures installed; plumbing renovations, and new metal toilet partitions installed.


Junior High School


1. Boys Visiting Shower Room renovated with glaze type finish on floor, walls and ceilings; new porcelain toilets, sinks and shower fixtures installed; plumbing renovations; and metal partitions installed.


Roof Repairs


1. Callahan School, Shattuck School and Winslow School roof repairs made as follows: Flashing repaired and/or replaced; gutters repaired; conductor pipes repaired and/or replaced; and tar roof area resurfaced.

Painting


Winslow School: Exterior re-painted and interior re-decorated.


Shattuck School: Classrooms re-decorated. Exterior re-painted.


Cleveland School: All plastered wall areas re-decorated.


Other: Approximately 113,000 square feet of additional wall areas were re-decorated in all schools, according to need.


Grounds


Administration Building: 1. Lawn area renovated; 2. Shrubs, donated by Women's Community Committee, planted.


Senior High School: Athletic Field-1. Baseball diamond refurbished. 2. Track Field-installed clay runway for broad jump; re-built jumping pits; installed bituminous shot-put and hammer-throw circle; widened 220 yards of straightway track and refurbished it and installed 10 ton of cinders. 3. Repaired all bleacher seats and re-painted where needed. 4. Outside Contractor re-sodded football field.


Seeded, aerated and fertilized areas where necessary at all school sites.


A 45-foot steel flag pole, donated by the U. S. Post Office, was moved from its present site and installed at the Junior High School Grounds to take the place of the wooden pole suspended from the building.


General Remarks


The foregoing are some of the projects supervised by me during the past year. In addition to this, work-load schedules were set up, the annual summer cleaning program was most successful, with all general repairs and maintenance procedures completed at School Opening time. All walls, floors and furniture were thoroughly cleaned according to good custodial practice. About a million and a half square feet of floor area was re-surfaced with the application of suitable floor surface materials particular to each type of floor.

I wish to thank you, Dr. Coakley, the School Committee, and all members of the Custodial Staff for the splendid cooperation given to me during the past year.
