upon Reading the Report of the Committee about Fortifications. It being proposed to the Town to provid a number of Gun Car- riages wch was Voted in the negative.


Voted. That the whole of the fifteen hundred pound being the produce of the Blue hill Lands, be Layd out for the purchaceing of Grain at Such times and Seasons as the Select men Shall think fitt.


And the Select men are directed and Ordered to Lay out the Same and to dispose there of according to their best judgment and discretion to the Inhabitants.

Voted a Grant of Two hundred and fifty pounds, wch together wth Fifty pounds of ye money raised ye Last year & not yet applyed to that use, Shall be applyed to the Support of ye wateh for ye year ensuing.


Voted a grant of Eighteen hundred pounds to be raised on the Inhabitants and Estates within this Town, for the reliefe of the Poor, and defraying other Necessary charges ariseing within and for this Town for the year ensuing.


Pursuant to a motion offered to the Town by Sundry of the Inhabitts desireing That a Committee be chosen by the Town, to receive consider and debate all Such matters and things as may be Layd before them, for the Releife of This Town under their present distresses, and that notiee be given of the time and place of their meeting, and that they make Report of their doings therein, to ye Town in order to their Approbation thereof.

Voted. That M' Peleg Wiswall be by y-e Select-men Invited to take ye charge as master of the Free Gramer School at ye North.


Voted. That the Town will proceed by a Written Vote to chuse a master for the North writing School.


Voted. That m" Jer Condey be the master for the New writing School at ye North.


Voted. That in Case m' Condey do undertake and perform that Service he is to be paid at ye Rate of one hundred pounds _or ye year, ensuing.

Voted. That the Sel: men be directed to Enlarge the South Burying place, for the encouragement of Such as Shall Build a Row of Toombs. Provided Such as Shall build Toombs there, be enjoyned to carry up their Walls So as to be a Sufficient Fence.


Voted. That the Addition of fifty pounds to m' Williams' Sal- lery made by the Town the 23th of June Last for one year be further prolonged for one year more from thence next ensuing.


In answere to the Petition of John Demery & Thomas Barnerd now Lying on file. Voted. That the Sel: men are Impowered on Such terms as they Shall agree to Sell unto the Sd Demery & Barnerd a peice of the Townes Flatts, nigh the mill-pond, as dc- scribed in ye Sd Petition.


Voted. That Pen Townsend Esq", Edward Hutchinson, Esq', Mesne John White, John Colman, & John Smith, or any three of them, be impowered to Andit the Treasn" accots for this year.


[3S5.] The Comittee raised by the Town at their Last meet- ing to consult ye eomon good haveing now given in their report in writing web being distinctly read and lying on file.


Voted an Approbation of the Several Parragraphs contained in the Sd Report. And that it be given as Instruction to the Representitives of this Town to Lay the Same before the Great an Gen1 Assembly of this Province at their next Sessions in order to their bringing the Same into practice.

Voted. for the ensuing year and So from time to time untill the Town Shall order otherwise. Every person Shall pay the Charge of carring away the Dirt of halfe the pav'd Street Lane or Ally before the respective Houses and Lands possessed by them, and every Such person neglecting and refuscing to carry away his Dirt twenty four hours after warning given by the Scavenger (when it is practicable) Shall forfeit and pay the Sume of five Shillings for

For the Regulating of Trueks, Carts & wth ye Town of Boston.


Whereas this Town hath been at Great Charge in paveing the most of the Streets and Considerable Lanes therein, and that Great damage is done to the Paveing by reason of the extraordi- nary weight born in Carts & Trueks, in Some measure Occasioned by the Unsutable Length of Trueks Lately made, whereby also there is danger of great damage done to Passengers &c. in turning of the Sd Trueks in narrow Streets.


For the preventing of which it is Ordered.

BOSTON TOWN RECORDS, 1720.


That from and afer the expiration of one moneth next after the Establishment of this Order : whosoever Shall drive through any of the Streets or Lanes of this Town, any Trucks whose Sides exceed the Length of eighteen feet Shall forfeit and pay a Fine of Twenty Shillings for every Such Offence.


And. That whosoever Shall drive any Cart or Trucks through any of the aforesaid Streets or Lanes with more then two horses at a time. Shall pay a fine of five Shillings for every Such offence. And that every driver who in his Cart or Trucks shall carry more than one Tonn weight at a Load through any of the afore- said Streets or Lanes shall pay a fine of five shillings for every such offence.


And. That every driver of any Cart, Truck, Dray or Sled Shall while passing through the Streets and Lancs afore said go by the Side of the Thil-Horse with his Halter in his hand, on pain of the Forfeiting of Five Shillings for ever Offence, or neglect of attending this order.


[390.] And. That the Tire of the wheels of all Carts & Trucks that Shall be made, after the Establishment of this order Shall be full four inches in breadth, and the nailes of the Tire to be Flatt on Paine of the forfeiture of the Sume of Ten Shillings for every week the Sª Cart or Trucks Shall be improved in this Town, to be paid by the Owner of the Sª Cart or Trucks.


Voted a Grant of Three hundred pounds to be Raised on ye Inhabit" for defraying the Charge of ye Watch for this present year.

Voted. A Grant of two thousand pounds to be raised on the Inhabitants & .Residents of this Town, for the reliefe of the Poor and other Necessary charges Arriseing within & for this Town.


Voted. a Grant to Edward Huthinson Esq" of Thirteen pounds eleven Shillings & three pence remaining due to him for his disburstments on repairing the North Battree, to be paid by ye T. Treasu".


whereas The Comittee formerly raised for repairing the North Battree. haveing now Signified to ye Town that Some further rc- paires is yet neefull there wch they Suppose will cost twenty or thirty pounds.


Voted. That ye Sª comittee wth the advice of ye Select men do get So much thercof as is ncedfull repaired.


Voted. That it be given as an Instruction the Representitives of this Town now chosen to promote the building a Bridge over Charles River at the place where the Ferry hath been Usually Kept, viz* between m' Gee® & Hudsons point, and at no other placc.


In answere to the Petition of Eben' Burges praying that ye Scl: men may be empowered to Bargaine & Sell unto him a certaine peice of Land and Flatts formerly Leased by the Town to his Predicessors and now in his Tenure, Abutting on the Mill Pond at the Lower end of Sudbury Street in Boston.
